  1. To me the whole thing made zero sense. The name of the show is "How I met your Mother" and while I guess it technically did focus on that it ends up killing the mother off the same episode in which they meet? Then they devote the entire last season to Robin and Barney's wedding, and have them make it through all sorts of difficult situations, only to have them get divorced half way through the finale because their work schedules don't match? I don't know, it just seemed like they were trying too hard to come up with twists and it essentially defeated the entire purpose of the show. I think if they really wanted Ted and Robin be together they should have made Robin "the mother" and tried to hide that all the way up to the finale.
  2. Sure it would be nice to get Bennett or someone like that but it's not realistic. I'm not sure why that's not realistic. If he's not interested he's not interested but MU could have probably given him a significant raise from what he's making now. I would have preferred Ben Howland as well. He's a very established coach having had a ton of success at both Pitt and UCLA. Plus given his age it's probably safe to assume he wouldn't be using MU as a stepping stone to a better job. But it is what it is. I think WoJo will probably end up being a better coach than Buzz. I thought Buzz did a terrible job at developing the talent he recruited. He was constantly getting consensus top 100 guys only to sit them on the bench and/or watch them transfer somewhere else. I predict Va Tech will go nowhere with him because it's a football school in a very tough conference. I don't think he'll be able to attract the same caliber recruit that he was able to get at Marquette.
  3. but there are a ton of great coaches who started out as an assistant or HC at a smaller program. Wait...come to think of it they ALL did. That doesn't mean you have to go out and hire an assistant coach in the hopes he turns into a successful coach. You can set your sights higher and go out and get the guy that already is a successful coach. With the success MU has had over the past decade or so they shouldn't be having to pick a new coach every 5 years. WoJo may be a very good hire and a very good coach. But if he is successful and if he's still around when 67 year old Coach K retires you and I both know he'll more than likely end up at Duke. How do you resolve this issue? I don't know. Maybe invest more in facilities? Maybe pay assistant coaches more? Maybe set your sights higher in coaching search (I would have loved to see them make a run at Tony Bennett from Virginia)? All this being said I really hope this hire works out. MU is going to have a very different looking team next year and with the the success many Big East teams had recruiting this year MU can't afford to play like they did this year.
  4. If MU ever wants to shed it's appearance as a stepping stone program they need to stop acting like it. Hiring assistant coaches and coaches from small time schools with good basketball teams reeks of stepping stone program. Go out and offer what it will take to get an established coach.
  5. What is Aaron Nola's ceiling? I know he has fantastic numbers but from what I remember he doesn't throw all that hard. Does he have the ability to be ace or does he profile more as an inning eater #3-#4 type? I'm really holding out hope that we get one of Aiken, Holmes or Ortiz and get another talented HS pitcher with out second pick.
  6. Wiggins and Parker are franchise players. I agree but it seems like every scout seems to think Embiid has the most upside of all of them. It'll be interesting to see how this all plays out. Hopefully someone like Parker decides to go back to school. I think the top of next year's draft is going to be pretty solid too. Milwaukee really has a chance to turn things around over the next few years if they draft right. But then again I suppose it means nothing unless they get a new arena.
  7. Not too much of a surprise but Embiid is officially in the draft. I was holding out hope that he'd pass up the draft this year and make next year's a little bit stronger. The Bucks must be sending signals that they really like him because almost every mock I see in which he is still available has him going to Milwaukee.
  8. You know what's great for the team's future? Estrada making 30starts or more this year. Then trade him in the offseason and run Thornburg/Nelson in his place next year. What about Melvin's m.o. suggests he'd trade Estrada after a good season to make room for a prospect? He'd be more likely to offer Estrada a 3 year extension and keep Thornburg and Nelson in AAA for 4 seasons. Hopefully the Estrada we get is the one after his injury (2.23 ERA) and not the one before it (5.32 ERA) But again, my issue is not so much Estrada as the #5 but with Thornburg in the bullpen. At some point we'll need another starter and he won't be ready to pitch more than 3 or 4 innings if he's in the bullpen.
  9. This is pretty much standard practice now with all teams with their non-top flight starter prospects. Everyone loves the Cards and Rays and they do it too. The Cards and Rays have been doing it lately because they have a ton of talent in the rotation (Cards have Wainwright, Wacha, Miller, Lynn, Martinez, Kelly, TB has Price, Moore, Hellickson, Archer, Cobb, Odorizzi) and have no room for anyone else. Some teams, particularly TB, move veterans to make room for their top prospects. The Brewers don't seem to have any faith in their guys. They give them a shot in September but won't give them a shot in April. Like I said it's just frustrating that when the Brewers FINALLY have a pitching prospect ready they stash him in the bullpen.
  10. I can't really argue with Marco Estrada being in the rotation ahead of Thornburg. My two issues are 1) It didn't seem like Thornburg was ever really given a fair shot to win the #5 spot. And 2) Friggin decide what role he should have. I absolutely positively HATE this attitude that the Brewers' brass has that a young pitcher needs to pitch out of the bullpen first. They did it with Peralta and it screwed him up for months. Meanwhile, probably the one prospect who should be moved to the bullpen to figure some stuff out, Johnny Hellweg, continues to be talked about like he is some prized, can't miss prospect. Thornburg should be a starter until he proves he cannot handle the role. All he's done when given a chance to start in the majors is succeed. Let him start in Nashville, pitch regularly, and the come up when we need another starter. It frustrates me to no end that an organization as terrible at developing starting pitchers as Milwaukee continues to use the same formula when their top prospects are major league ready.
  11. I'd be hesitant to give Segura $6-$7 million right now. As good as his overall numbers were last year let's not forget his numbers in the second half were very pedestrian. .214/.268/.315. The Brewers have killed themselves in the past by giving contract extensions to guys who have only had one or two good seasons and got lucky when guys they tried to extend turned down the offers. I realize a small market team like Milwaukee has to take chances and extend guys before the get too extensive but that doesn't mean they should be reckless about it. Segura is still under control for four more years I believe so there is no rush at all. Of course Milwaukee could help themselves out by actually developing a shortstop prospect of their own so, like pitching, they are forced to constantly overpay for quality.
  12. Tickets are sold. Thanks.
  13. Would have rather left Thornburg in AAA to start and been the 1st to call up I get so tired of the way they treat Thornburg. He's been their top pitching prospect for years now yet all they do is flip him between the rotation in the minors and the bullpen in Milwaukee. He has earned the right to compete for a starting job, which I don't think he was ever truly doing in spring training. And while I'm sure he's happy just to be in Milwaukee having him sit in the bullpen as the long man is a waste of his potential. We have plenty of other guys who could be the long man.
  14. Kind of ironic if Smart goes to Marquette because I wouldn't be surprised in VCU is in the Big East in the next 5 years. Good hire though. I was never really sold on Williams as a coach. For one I don't think he earned the MU job. Two it doesn't seem like he can recruit anything other than small forwards and wing players. Three he doesn't seem to be all that good at developing young players, as evidenced by the plethora of top 100 recruits who have flamed out at MU. I think Smart, and maybe even Howland, would be a significant step up from Williams.
  15. I bought 4 tix to opening day only to be told afterward that two of the people I bought tix for can't go anymore. I'm looking to either trade the 4 for two better tickets or just sell two of the tickets. The tickets are section 421 row 10. For a trade I'm obviously looking for something not in the 400s and somewhat close to home plate. If anyone wants to buy them I'm just asking face ($25 each) plus $7 for fees. So $57 total.
  16. Hopefully Union and/or Ferris St loses tonight in their conference championship game to solidify a #1 seed for Wisconsin. I think Minnesota and BC are locks for #1 and it will hard to pass those other two if they don't lose.
  17. I'm guessing that he was having trouble recruiting after the Big East fell apart. It was only one bad year and Marquette had the talent to get back to the NCAA tournament. Buzz had probably his best recruiting class last year. Unfortunately injuries to Duane Wilson and Vander Blue's ridiculous decision to turn pro really hurt the back court. Overall a lot of Big East teams are recruiting fairly well. Georgetown Marquette Providence and Seton Hall all have top 25 classes and Xavier has 3 recruits in Scout's top 100. I don't think the Big East breakup has affected recruiting all that much. Overall I'm not overly upset about Buzz leaving. He was never really able to successfully recruit a big man other than Gardner and next year's team is going to be woefully undersized because of it. It seemed like a good percentage of his recruits have been busts (Anderson, Taylor Jr., Erik Williams, Jujuan Johnson so far) or transferred (Maymon, Reggie Smith, Jamail Jones, Jamal Ferguson, TJ Taylor). I guess you can't argue with 3 straight Sweet 16's but this year's team, and I have a feeling next year's team, aren't nearly that good. I can't help but think someone who can recruit a more balanced roster and can develop the talent better will have more success.
  18. http://www.uscho.com/bracketology/2014/03/19/just-days-out-and-moving-around-the-third-band-could-solve-some-attendance-issues/ That loss to Michigan St cost the Badgers a #1 seed in the last projections. If this guy's predictions are true then Wisconsin had better hope they can get that #1 back because it doesn't matter if they are a 2 seed or a 4 seed they are going to end up in St. Paul with Minnesota. It's kind of BS that you give a team a harder road so you can sell more tickets but that's just the way it is I guess. It'd be one thing if you were putting Wisconsin in Milwaukee or something because that would really help them out. But making them play in, essentially, their rivals hometown? I don't know about that. I think going to take them winning the Big 10 championship to get that #1 seed back.
  19. The area you are talking about is in the middle of the MSOE campus. That reminds me. There is another structure on Knapp and Broadway. It's a small one and I'm not sure if it's reserved entirely for MSOE but it's another option to check out if you're desperate. Also, the MATC structure on 8th/State.
  20. There are parking structures all over the place. I don't know what you consider very very expensive but I'd guess it would cost around $20. Definitely not Chicago expensive. There are structures on 4th/Highland, 6th/Highland and James Lovell(7th)/State. All three are within two blocks of the BC. A little further away there are some structures by the Grand Ave Mall. It's walking distance but a little further (4-5 blocks). There's a structure by the Marcus Center on Water St between State and Highland. That's on the other side of the river but there's a pedestrian bridge near there as a short cut. There's also a big flat lot on Water/Juneau. Again it's a little further but definitely still walkable (5-6 blocks). Street parking may be tough and the parking checkers will get you if you park illegally......trust me. Hope that helps.
  21. I think this is a big year for Clint Coulter. I know he's still young but he's really done nothing above Arizona. He needs to stay healthy and he needs to hit. I'd also like to see Delmonico show something as he was pretty awful after the trade. He's literally all we have at 3rd base right now. Pitching wise I'd like to see Pena take that next step and I'd like to see Jungmann get some real separation in his BB/K ratio.
  22. For about the last 10 years or so, myself and 3-5 other buddies have had a weekly tradition of going out for wings (and beer) on Thursday nights. Every Thursday for 10 years? Holy cow. That's a lot of wings. BW3 has got to be the most overrated wing place in the city. I can name probably 10 places I'd rather go than them. But my vote for #1 is the Pizza Shuttle on Farwell. Champion Chicken and Muzak's also have good wings but I think they are carry out only.
  23. http://www.uscho.com/bracketology/2014/03/12/one-week-out-and-the-no-3-seeds-pose-some-challenges/ In US College Hockey online's latest predictions they give Wisconsin the #1 seed in the Midwest region in Cincinnati, playing Cornell and then the winner of Ferris St and Providence. You might be looking at the bracket at the very bottom, which was last week's prediction when UW was sitting at #5. But I do agree with you. Wisconsin shouldn't automatically be shipped off to St. Paul if they don't get a #1 seed. UW shouldn't be forced to take a more difficult path to the Frozen Four so the NCAA can sell more tickets. And I know that's just a projection and it probably won't shake out like that but that fact that it's even being printed by a reputable website angers me. I'm a little surprised by this. USCHO actually goes step by step and explains every decision made. The rankings are based entirely on the pairwise rankings, which usually determines who get in and who doesn't. You can argue a bit with some decisions to move teams around but those moves are not really that frequent. It's not like predictions for NCAA basketball brackets, where it seems like teams are just kind of randomly thrown out there.
  24. I know a lot can change but who are the players that are for sure going to be gone by the time #12 rolls around? Obviously Rodon, Hoffman and Kolek. I doubt Trea Turner or Alex Jackson are there. Most mocks I've seen have Beede, Derek Fischer Jacob Gatewood and Gettys gone as well. So that's 9. That leaves one of Aiken, Ortiz and Holmes available at 12. I'd be ok with that scenario.
