  1. I've definitely heard Roenicke call him "Kotz" before.
  2. It still was. Nathan was great for years in Minnesota. Liriano was great and could still be okay. I think Sabean's been awful. Zito contract, Rowand contract, no offense whatsoever the last few years, and now the terrible Beltran trade.
  3. Well they're AAA for radio for sure until Uecker retires.
  4. When did they switch to awards for each position? I always thought they just chose three outfielders, which generally meant they went to center fielders. There is really a terrible pool to pick from for NL left fielders. Thinking about this, I hope he doesn't win it. I couldn't stomach a full season of Bill using it to say he's a great defender.
  5. This kind of sucks, because I wanted to beat him more than anything. Gregmag, that is incredible.
  6. Gamel's never had a real shot in the big leagues. 194 plate appearances spread over 4 years is meaningless. He's been good to great all throughout the minors. Not guaranteeing he'll be good, but there's more evidence implying he will that there is implying he won't.
  7. Pretty sad when this constitutes as the best sports news all week, but between the Badgers, a Packers bye week, and the freaking Cardinals, this easily takes the cake.
  8. The one nice thing about the Cards winning tomorrow would be all the shots of a dismayed Nolan Ryan.
  9. Not like it's going to "affect my life" or anything, but I just don't want to watch the Cardinals celebrate. La Russa "smiling" and clapping tonight was one of the most unsettling things I've ever seen.
  10. I'm going to look back on baseball reference's game logs to pinpoint exactly when David Freese sold his soul.
  11. Yeah definitely. I've watched about five innings all series because I hate the Cardinals so much. I've watched the innings when they were down two. After they tied it, I walked away both times (didn't even wait to see if they won).
  12. It's Albert Pujols. He's probably the only exception to that rule. That move increased their chances of losing. Their lineup is loaded.
  13. There are so many stupid managers in baseball. How can you walk someone to put the winning run on base?
  14. Out of sheer curiosity, who have you warmed up to?
  15. Are you serious? That's awesome that the camera caught it.
  16. If Gamel and Green have very solid seasons, it will be a wash with this year where Fielder had an amazing season and McGehee had an amazingly terrible season. Plus it would be a huge upgrade on defense. The ERA was sixth in the NL because the defense was so bad. They were third in xFIP, a much more reliable stat. If you want to fix the ERA, fixing the defense is a great way to do that.
  17. So bad timing I suppose, as I posted this without seeing the game tonight. My point is there were really good offenses in the playoffs. For the most part, offenses have been better than pitching staffs during these playoffs. The Brewers aren't any exception.
  18. Why on Earth would Boston trade Youkilis for Hart?
  19. With Greinke and Marcum only signed through 2012, Melvin might feel pressure to upgrade more than that next year, though. That or just trade one or both and rebuild in 2012. I just don't know.I expect the Brewers to make a big push to re-sign Greinke. Who knows if it will happen, but if it does, they shouldn't have to rebuild. If they did want to rebuild, they sure have a ton of pieces to sell off. They could have a firesale if they wanted, though I'm not sure that would be the right move. I'm also not sure I'd want Melvin conducting the firesale, simply because he probably doesn't have too many years left anyway and I'd just as soon have his heir apparent running that show.
  20. Many on here were lamenting how terrible the Brewers pitched in the NLCS but didn't want to give much credit to the Cardinals' ridiculous offense. Many were also saying that the Cardinals wouldn't be able to pitch to Texas' lineup. My thought was, 'How in the world will Texas be able to pitch to St. Louis?' The Cards are doing what they've done all playoffs, and really, all season: mashing. Their offense is probably the best the NL has seen in a long time. Sure, the Brewers didn't pitch great, but the Cardinals crushed almost every mistake.
  21. From the scrolling headline at The Onion's sports page: Brewers Enter Beat Mode
  22. Green, Barmes, Weeks, Gamel would be a huge defensive upgrade that would save a lot more runs that this year's infield would. Plus they'd save a lot of money that they could spend elsewhere.
  23. I can't believe he's 77. That's pretty old to still be commissioner. I would have guessed he was maybe 70.
