He clearly doesn't want to take Hart out of the lineup right now, and Gomez hasn't played in a few days.... Replacing one of those two would be the chance to play a lefty. I suppose he could have given Escobar the day off and played Counsell. Boy, does this lineup fall off a cliff after McGehee.

First thing I thought of too. On the surface, I was disappointed by this. But that's a good point about Letterman--maybe Conan will be his replacement. -
I have the feeling that if Prince re-signs, I will think it's too much. I would not be happy if they gave him 6/120. That's just too long and too much for a mid-market team to pay one of the least valuable positions.

I don't think this should be considered reactionary. Many people didn't like the Davis signing, Gomez trade, etc. when they happened. I for one don't think this is a playoff team. They're trying to sell us that the moves they made will make them contend, but all they did is create new holes by filling old ones.

Not sure why he stayed away from the change so much. I'm not worried; he just didn't locate his fastball tonight at all.

Edmonds in center? This is a complete 180. Gerut should be the backup center fielder.

At the same time, they might be able to get him cheaply if they did it now. Even if they keep Weeks for, say, four more years, it's not like Lawrie would need to be traded or anything. I don't like the idea of letting Weeks go simply because they have Lawrie.

I'm always leery of these extensions for pitchers. Guaranteeing money for a pitcher when he has three years of arbitration ahead of him is quite a risk. What it boils down to is the Brewers gambling that Yo will stay healthy. If he does, he'll almost surely outperform his contract. I suppose this is probably a good gamble to take, though.
