  1. Update: Alex Wilson placed on paternity list (congrats, Alex). Petricka has been recalled to take his place. His line here is getting harder and harder to maintain as he nears two possible threshholds for the year, but it should get easier in the next few weeks as he reaches one or the other (or both, possibly).
  2. Update: A whole bunch of minor leaguers burned their 2019 option officially today since they have been optioned for 20 days. Numbers have been adjusted, with a new note to indicate that a player has burned an option this year, so for example if a player has "0" next to their name, that means they are out of options this year and can't be optioned in 2019. If they have "0-", it means they burned their final option in 2019 and are still able to be optioned for the remainder of the 2019 season.
  3. Update: Freddy Peralta to the IL. Jake Petricka optioned back to the Minors. Petricka is right on that line of about to lose his next option, but also getting very close to 5 years of MLB service time, so the Brewers are clearly trying to maintain flexibility with him as long as possible. Jeffress has been activated from the IL, and Aaron Wilkerson has been recalled from AAA. I believe Wilkerson has not burned his 2019 option yet (I believe he would if he'd spent the rest of the day in AAA), but he will if he's optioned again at any point this year.
  4. When Barnes first came up, he looked absolutely lights out, but his command has been pretty spotty (sometimes outright bad) so it seems like it's difficult for him to be consistently reliable in high leverage situations. Barnes definitely gets more hate than he deserves though. His career ERA/FIP/xFIP/WAR is 3.56/3.55/3.66/1.6, those are pretty good numbers for a 6th/7th inning guy over parts of 4 seasons (including this year). I think I always thought he'd turn the corner and be dominant, but not expecting that anymore. His FB velocity is way down this year (93.8 vs. 96.4 career, 95.9 last year), so unless he can find better command he'll be in trouble. That said, extremely small sample size but his walk rate is way down this year and his K rate is actually up over last year. I think Barnes is pretty firmly somewhere in the middle of this pen. The fact that he has an option remaining is really the only reason why I'd expect him to get sent down at some point this year if he gets into a rut. Long story short, I like Barnes, he's probably better than most people seem to think, but if his velo stays down and that walk rate creeps back up, he'll never be consistent enough to be anything other than a solid middle reliever.
  5. Yelich post-ASB in 2018: 65 G 294 PA .367/.449/.770 wRC+ 220 11.9 BB% 17.7 K% BABIP .385 Yelich so far in 2019: 17 G 78 PA .354/.449/.785 wRC+ 202 14.1 BB% 14.1 K% BABIP .319 No signs of regression yet. To combat his BABIP regression, he's just hitting even more dingers.
  6. So who goes down today for Jeffress? I thought it'd be Barnes for sure, but he was trusted in the 8th inning yesterday over Petricka, and I think this may actually be one of the last days we could option Petricka back down without his permission (he's like maybe 5 days away from 5 years of service time). On the other hand, after yesterday maybe they value Petricka's fresh arm. On the other other hand, with a 4-run lead in the 9th and no off day in sight, Counsell brought in Hader rather than trying to just let Barnes finish it out (which seemed like the right way to go if you're going to option Barnes for a fresh arm the next day). I'll guess it's Petricka that goes down for Jeffress.
  7. Another homer for Segovia. I saw a tweet the other day that said he had modified his batting stance a bit from last year, probably in an attempt to get to more power. Seems to be working so far. Power is more or less the one giant hole in his offensive game (career .290 hitter with a .354 OBP but .056 ISO). If he can sustain this power surge (he already has tied his largest home run total for a single season, one more and he'll tie his entire pre-2019 career professional homer count), are we looking at an interesting prospect? Not sure how he rates out defensively in CF, but kinda looks like they've let him play all over the outfield so maybe he's got a reasonable projection to a 4th OF type with hope for more?
  8. I think I'm just going to have to assume that the first recall was really when his contract was selected, which means he has thus far only burned one option in 2018 and, like you said, is about to burn his 2nd option for 2019.
  9. Update: David Freitas has been acquired from the Mariners. His MLB page is a bit confusing and I can't tell if he has any options left.
  10. Joantgel Segovia, even in his breakout half-season last year at Wisconsin, only hit 2 homers in 50 games and only had one career home run before last year. He's got 2 in 8 games to start the year and seems to be doing quite well to start the year in Carolina. I know his hype train slowed down a bit in the 2nd half after his promotion last year, but excited to see that maybe he's growing into some more power (extreme SSS alert). Interested to hear what scouts say about him this year.
  11. Update: Taylor Williams has been optioned to AAA. He will burn his 3rd and final option if he spends 20 days in the Minors. Jack Petricka was recalled before burning his 2nd option. If he spends another 10 days in the minors this year, he would burn an option. Alternatively, if he spends 15 days in the Majors, he can't be sent to the Minors without his permission.
  12. Cubs offense has been potent, so despite their troubles our offense is going to need to wake up a bit to win this series and I'm not sure I like our chances against Quintana. I'd say any chance for a win tonight involves Woodruff pitching well enough to keep it close until we get to the Cubs bullpen and then hope for the best.
  13. Update: Donnie Hart has been claimed from the Orioles and placed on the 40-man roster (Wahl moved to 60-day IL to make room). He was optioned during spring training before he was DFA'd, so I'm not entirely sure how the days work for when he's kind of in no man's land between teams, but for now I'll assume that he'll burn his 3rd and final option on the same day all other players will who were optioned during ST.
  14. I have to admit I've been watching the minor league prospects less and less now that most of the big guys have made their way to Milwaukee, but here goes nothing: 1. Keston Hiura 2. Zack Brown 3. Tristen Lutz 4. Corey Ray 5. Brice Turang (real chance he's #1 at midseason though) 6. Lucas Erceg 7. Mauricio Dubon 8. Aaron Ashby 9. Adrian Houser 10. Trey Supak 11. Jacob Nottingham 12. Joe Gray 13. Troy Stokes Jr. 14. Braden Webb 15. Payton Henry 16. Caden Lemons 17. Bobby Wahl 18. Tyrone Taylor 19. Carlos Rodriguez 20. Jake Gatewood 21. Marcos Diplan 22. Cody Ponce 23. Trent Grisham 24. Je'Von Ward 25. Lun Zhao
  15. Just looked it up. Hader threw 15 strikes yesterday in 21 pitches, 11 were swinging strikes, and 2 of the other 4 were fly ball outs. Only one called strike looking and one foul ball. That's incredible.
  16. I think it was the guest on the Brewers preview segment on Effectively Wild that said the thought in the Brewers org was that they thought Yelich would actually be better this year than last year because he's coming into his body, put on a bit of good weight this offseason, and just seems to have hit his prime. After watching him in ST and on opening day, I gotta say I'm buying into this hype. Yeli looks like he could have a full season like his monster second half last year. Would love to go back and congratulate all the people on this forum who talked about how Yelich had the potential to essentially be peak Ryan Braun and how happy everyone was to get him. I was happy to pick up a solid, controllable player, but have to say I was not expecting him to be this good (although it is a bit presumptuous to acquire any player and predict MVP). Hader also looks like an unbeatable monster (as long as you have Lo Cain roaming the outfield, I guess). I think the occasional homer just comes with Hader's profile, but I'm not sure I've seen that many swings and misses in a 2 inning stretch in my life. What a fun game. Best part about baseball as that we get to do it again tonight!
  17. I am NOT looking forward to all the times we're going to have to see Jack Flaherty for the next 5 years. He and Walker Buehler are the two young pitchers I find most impressive in the Majors from last year (and Ohtani, of course). That said, after the Spring Training that Peralta had, I can't imagine many teams are looking forward to seeing him either. Trying to imagine a game sometime in the future with 6 innings of Peralta, 2 of Hader, and 1 of Knebel and how many swings and misses you might get in a single game off middle-middle fastballs.
  18. Update: Jake Petricka has been optioned.
  19. Update: Erik Kratz has been removed after his trade to the San Francisco Giants.
  20. Update: Cory Spangenberg and Tyler Saladino have been optioned to minor-league camp. Added Alex Wilson to the pitchers list, will update later with the corresponding 40-man move (if necessary, they may just move Bobby Wahl to the 60-day DL). As far as I can tell, Wilson has no more options remaining, but it wouldn't really matter because he has more than 5 years of service time and would have to approve being sent to the Minors anyways.
  21. Knebel has an elbow issue So scratch him off the OD roster. Hoping Kimbrel takes his place.
  22. Update: Jacob Nottingham has been optioned to minor-league camp. Adrian Houser was also, but as was established on this thread, he will burn that 4th option regardless this year.
  23. Update: Mauricio Dubon, Troy Stokes Jr. and Tyrone Taylor have been optioned to minor-league camp.
  24. Thanks for the info, Mass Haas, I have removed Guerra's 4th option. Also, with the first round of Spring Training cuts, I have removed all 2018-related notes about options burned. Marcos Diplan, Trey Supak, and Aaron Wilkerson have all been optioned to Minor League camp, and will each burn an option 20 days into the regular season (which I have marked as 4/16/19).
  25. I'm curious why he wouldn't have been granted this option honestly. The rules I've read seem to state that if a player misses a whole option year with an injury (as Houser did), then they can be granted a 4th option year. I'm curious what the other circumstances must be here though, if it's possible that a player may NOT be granted the 4th option year. Anyways, this was good news for the Brewers (and bad news for the player) last year with Guerra, hoping things work out positively for the Brewers again this time, and I think Houser could benefit from coming along slowly this year and not necessarily having to stick in a bullpen or risk getting outrighted. Hope it works out for all involved, as Houser seems like he could develop into a decent back-end starter or a valuable relief arm.
