  1. Doesn't look like his recent resurgence is just lucky either. Like people said here, he's hitting the ball hard and only .294 BABIP this year. His last 38 games (obviously arbitrary based on his hot streak): .282/.396/.535, 7 HR, 19 XBH in 169 PA (27:27 K:BB), .306 BABIP He's definitely going to be interesting to watch this year. His May OPS of .842 is his best month since August 2015 during his very good rookie ball season post-draft. Still got a great walk rate too. Any word on his defense? I feel like reports in the past have said he wasn't that great out there, especially in center, but they've been playing him every day in CF this year so at least he's likely a guy who could play all over.
  2. Update: Jacob Barnes has burned his 3rd and final option. He will enter the 2020 season with no options remaining. Jimmy Nelson was optioned from his rehab assignment 8 days short of 5 years MLB service time, so he can still be optioned without his permission at this time. He would burn his 2nd option if he spends 20+ more days in the Minors this season. Once he is recalled, it is unlikely that he would be eligible to be optioned again without his permission.
  3. Purely by games left to go for the Brewers, Yelich is on pace for 62-63 homers. The week he missed probably skews that number down by a homer or two, but not sure what calculation would put him on pace for 70 at this point. But yeah, 50 seems very possible at this point.
  4. It seemed a little weird at the time that we let him go, but he definitely wouldn't have been in our rotation and at the time it didn't really seem like he was needed in the bullpen (he wasn't even on the playoff roster). Maybe if they'd known Jeffress would start the year on the IL and Knebel would be gone, we would've held onto him, but at the time he seemed a bit too expensive for what it seemed like he was worth. Glad to see him pitching well, we'll see what his numbers look like by the end of the season. Starting pitching isn't really our problem right now.
  5. Update: Jacob Barnes optioned to make room for Chase Anderson's reinstatement from the IL. He has 10 more days to go before he burns his 2nd option. So unless there's an injury replacement, he'll burn that option before he can be recalled (I think).
  6. Nah, Barnes is still on the roster. Curious how they'll go with this one. Not sure Peralta makes sense in the bullpen the same way Burnes does. Would probably rather have him starting every 5 days, ready to come up in case of injury. It's probably a spot start for Anderson anyways, maybe two, before they call up Nelson.
  7. Wasn't' he the guy who said nobody thought Suter would make the majors? Loved the guy as a player... wish he'd gotten more ABs as a catcher for the Crew... but as a commentator, I sometimes think I'd do better. Don't get me wrong, I love Schroeder as an announcer. But I also wouldn't really ever expect him to be plugged into the online community either.
  8. I think Rock just said nobody was talking about Guerra as a bullpen ace before the season. Clearly he doesn't spend much time on Twitter.
  9. This has been such a weird series. Brewers have left the bases loaded SO MANY TIMES, and sometimes with nobody out. And yet they're hitting so much that they've scored tons of runs and won games anyways (hopefully continuing that trend here today).
  10. Hiura's clearly a "to all fields" kinda hitter, so it's a bit strange how much he seems to be trying to pull everything. He just looks off up there, but honestly I can't imagine the nerves of going to the Major Leagues for the first time, combined with Hiura being a slow starter at just about every level he's played at. Hoping it's just that and in a week or two he'll be comfortable. In the meantime, would probably keep him 7th and let Thames or Aguilar bat 6th, but it's probably not that big of a deal either way.
  11. Was expecting to be able to shoot more holes in this but you're basically right. Thames and Aguilar have pretty even playing time in May thus far, though. Thames OPS .670, Aguilar OPS .840 I think about even playing time is called for for both of them to keep them both in a rhythm. Right now the platoon is basically working, might as well keep it going.
  12. From my extremely uneducated point of view on things like this, Hiura seems like he's trying to pull everything which is going to be impossible on outside pitches, especially with that tiny kid's bat he uses. Hoping he just needs some time to settle in, but until then [sarcasm]he should stop using Shaw's bats that have the hole in them.[/sarcasm]
  13. Even in a hitless game for Yelich yesterday, seems like he was millimeters away from a 3-hit game with 2 homers. Baseball Savant Exit Velocities/xBA: 1st inning flyout: 103.8 mph/.710 4th inning flyout: 106.8 mph/.360 8th inning groundout: 107.6 mph!!!/.780 He was scalding the ball yesterday but either just missed it or just hit it in the wrong spot.
  14. Not arguing, but blowing 96-99 past youngins can happen when your FB is flat easier than it can as you climb. A slider can fool kids easier than more experienced batters. Any slow down makes you at least wonder how good his stuff is. If numbers kept being as seismic you jump him up again. If they taper off a bit, you pause a bit. All I'm doing is wondering and pausing a bit. He has the arm talent. Deception and movement matter and we don't know to what degree he has that. The point of the minor leagues isn't necessarily to demonstrate how good you already are. The point is to develop. I don't think anybody is saying that Rasmussen could come up to the Majors tomorrow and completely blow everyone away. This is his first taste of pro ball and the organization clearly has enough confidence in his stuff to promote him twice in short order, probably because they think he isn't really going to develop or learn much more in A ball. But at some point, he's going to need time to develop his offerings, and he's also pitched like 6 innings at AA so far. Even as small sample size warnings go, that's a pretty damn small sample size.
  15. Update: Keston Hiura contract selected, he starts his Major League career with 3 shiny new option years. Hopefully he'll never have to burn one.
  16. Update: With his recall, Jacob Barnes' 2019 option status is on hold. He has not yet spent 20 days in the Minors this season, so, at least for now, his 2019 option is still intact. Burch Smith will burn his 3rd and final option if he remains in the minors through the end of May.
  17. Update: Aaron Wilkerson was reinstated from the IL and optioned. This effectively burns his 2019 option, leaving him with 1 remaining after 2019.
