  1. Rockies game is the MLB.TV free game of the day, for those who need some more baseball before the Brewer game tonight.
  2. Since 7/10: https://ibb.co/mQ05G5 Hader/Swarzak/Knebel have been dominant in the 2nd half of 2017. I would like to see all 3 stick in the bullpen next year if possible. Swarzak has been especially valuable in September, 7 scoreless innings so far with no walks, I think he'd be a good guy to consider re-signing. I feel like it's underrated how much having a few solid guys in the back of the bullpen can take the pressure off the rest of the guys and make them perform better as well.
  3. I got 3 tickets but I'm not able to go anymore. If someone wants them for free just PM me with your e-mail address and I'll email them as soon as they're available (6 hours before game time). They're loge outfield, can't remember which side. EDIT: Tickets claimed.
  4. Coshun called that homer like it was going to be foul or caught the whole way, he was legitimately speechless which is not a good look for a professional broadcaster. If we got BA or Lepay all year round, I'd be all for that, but when Lepay goes back to Madison and we get Coshun in meaningful September games it's a bit of a joke. They really need to figure something else out. All that said, BA is one of the best in the business and taking him for granted would be a mistake. Every year he stays with the Brewers is a gift.
  5. Hendricks basically caught Perez at the perfect time, he was just taking his lead. Caught him sleeping a bit but not terrible. I was going to come on here and give him credit for not sliding into 1st base on the close play like he normally would, probably the difference there between safe and out. But agreed that it's hard to give him too much credit for that anymore.
  6. They might be wrong but they mentioned before the game on the broadcast tonight that in order to be eligible for post season, you just have to be with the team by September 1st, not on the 40-man roster. I think they're wrong, or possibly just misleading, maybe they mean that if someone went on the 60-day DL, Quintin Berry could become postseason eligible by taking that "spot", but does anyone know more than that?
  7. One area of depth the Brewers sorely need improvement on is announcers. Any time Craig Coshun or Jerry Augustine is talking on television, I die a little inside. Matt Lepay was some solid bench depth that they've added, but we need a solid 3rd-string play-by-play guy who can tell the difference between left and right field. A backup color guy who can say three words without stuttering would also be nice.
  8. Interesting that just about all the guys promoted from Carolina to Biloxi this year did better at Biloxi, even (and perhaps especially) the pitchers.
  9. At this point, how would you set up a 1-game playoff lineup against Zack Greinke? I'd probably go: 1. Jonathan Villar CF 2. Neil Walker 2B 3. Ryan Braun LF 4. Travis Shaw 3B 5. Domingo Santana RF 6. Eric Thames 1B 7. Manny Pina C 8. Orlando Arcia SS 9. Jimmy Nelson P I know Villar in CF could create some problems defensively, so the other option for me would be to move Villar to 2B, Walker to 1B, and put Keon in CF batting 7th behind Pina.
  10. Milwaukee Brewers @Brewers 58 seconds ago The #Brewers have selected the contract of OF Quintin Berry from Triple-A @skysox. RHP Aaron Brooks designated for assignment. Brooks had a rough outing the other day and the Brewers could use a pinch runner that they could easily remove from the 40-man after the season is over. This is a good move.
  11. We're 2 games back and there's like almost 30 to play, I think we're still in it guys.
  12. "The good news is that the 3 guys coming up this inning all have home run power" There's two outs already, Craig. What the heck are you talking about? Get this guy off my TV.
  13. When I worked in baseball, there was some oft-quoted study that showed that minor league pitchers going under the knife had something like 1% or 5% (or something like that) chance of ever reaching the big leagues. I feel like that study is heavily skewed by the fact that most minor leaguers never make it to the big leagues anyways, so of course those that get injured would have even more trouble but lots of terrible players won't make the majors anyways regardless of whether or not they get injured.
  14. Just out of curiosity, would Murphy jumping over Sogard's head count as some sort of interference if Kendrick tried to score and Sogard couldn't throw home?
  15. Yes he is. He didn't give up many runs in other starts but his command wasn't good......looks more relaxed tonight so far. They mentioned on the broadcast that he had some stuff he was working on in the minors when he was sent down. Look like that option time did him good.
  16. All that said, if an opportunity opens up where the Brewers could make a trade for a TOR guy (I'm thinking Marcus Stroman or Chris Archer types), I think they'd have to consider it. Hader has plenty of years of control left and has shown a real affinity for his fireman role, I'd have no problem with him starting 2018 in the bullpen, especially if we've got a real ace taking his spot.
  17. If anything, weirdly we could see ourselves in a situation where we're trading minor league pitching depth for position players. Clearly not where we expected to be given the fact that almost every trade conversation we've had over the past year has been who we are going to trade for that TOR starter. At this point, a trade like that doesn't really seem necessary. There will certainly be some competition in spring training next year for those 4th/5th spots in the rotation behind Nelson/Anderson/Davies. You've already got Woodruff/Hader/Garza/Guerra/Suter to choose from, plus a whole host of minor leaguers who are going to be ready to throw their hats in the ring. My guess is that there will be some serious consideration in the offseason over converting some minor league starters to the bullpen. Guys like Bubba Derby, Freddy Peralta, Adrian Houser, and Taylor Williams seem bound for the pen, but I don't really see this as a problem for any of them. Brewers have the potential to have the best top to bottom bullpen in baseball next year and probably will be paying their 7/8 man bullpen less total than some teams pay for their closer. All that pitching depth comes in handy when you remember that the team has 12 or 13 pitchers on it, not just 5.
  18. Interesting that Ryan Cordell seems to be ending his 2nd straight season being traded and not playing for his new team until the following year.
  19. Seems like the likelihood of us going 4-3 or 3-4 against the Cubs, then go 4-2 or 5-1 against the Reds, and hold water against everyone else is pretty good, and I think that might be enough to catch the Rockies the way they're playing. Luckily, the Cardinals seem like they've given up, and the Marlins have lost 4 straight to fall behind even the Cardinals, so it's looking like the DBacks will have that 1st wild card all sewn up and will host either us or the Rockies (or the Cubs, I suppose).
  20. My guess is that Guerra will get a chance to start rather than being used out of the bullpen, maybe could piggyback with Suter on Sunday? Not at the expense of competing, but Brewers need to know what they have in Guerra going into next year. Also if he can show any semblance of regaining form, it'd make it easier to trade him for something of substance in the offseason if they decide to go that route (he's owed the league minimum next year so if Garza has value at $5M, someone would take at least a flyer on Guerra).
  21. Another tweet said Guerra, Phillips, and Wang were also among the first September callups.
  22. He's played 80 games at 1B this year, 30 at 3B. I would call that 'some'. He played 1B at Carolina because Erceg is really only a 3B. He plays 3B at Biloxi because DeMuth is really only a 1B. He's clearly capable of playing both, regardless of how many games he's played at either spot this season. Stearns values positional flexibility, I'd be very surprised if as an organization they didn't consider Gatewood equally capable of playing 1B/3B at this point.
