  1. Well given the trade that was just made, I'd guess that Arcia is valued more highly.
  2. Update: Ray Black and Drew Pomeranz have been acquired from the San Francisco Giants. Pomeranz has no options remaining. Black has already burned his 3rd and final option in 2019. He can continue to be optioned for the rest of the year, but will start 2020 with 0 options remaining.
  3. Update: Jake Faria has been acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays. He has already burned his 3rd and final option in 2019. He can continue to be optioned for the rest of the year, but will start 2020 with 0 options remaining.
  4. I would be seriously bummed if we dealt Grisham at this point, but I've had that feeling before with Lewis Brinson so what do I know. Grisham is outperforming even Hiura's stellar AAA performance this year: Hiura: 243 PA, .329/.407/.681, 19 HR, 7/9 SB, 46 RBI, 44 R, 9.5 BB%, 26.3 K%, .389 BABIP Grisham: 153 PA, .357/.454/.698, 11 HR, 6/7 SB, 27 RBI, 34 R, 15 BB%, 14.4 K%, .365 BABIP This isn't even including Grisham's 2 more homers already tonight. Obviously I'm not implying that Grisham deserves the same reputation as a hitter that Hiura has, but the more this "hot streak" continues the more I think we have to start taking it seriously. Still so hard to believe that he remains only 22 years old. Trying not to get my hopes up too much.
  5. Kinda bummed considering it seemed like Ponce might be an interesting bullpen piece for next year, but honestly we needed a low cost arm right now, with really no good AAA options. Lyles has been bad for a while now but it's only been worst against *checks notes* THE CUBS AND CARDINALS! Kinda guessing this is the cheapest-best option we had available to us for Tuesday, and he's really only here to make 5 or 6 starts before we can get Gio/Woodruff/Chacin/Suter back.
  6. Thames is in a bit of a slump. Seems like Shaw will get a good amount of time at 1B if he's hitting. .316/.494/.754, 8 HR, 19:17 BB:K in 77 PA at AAA. Hope he's found it again. Only a little over a month to go until September. Some creative roster management could make it so that we can keep Shaw/Aguilar/Thames on the same roster until then.
  7. I know he's not really valued as a Major League CF, but if he has a great finish to the year at AAA, is it possible that he gets a September call up and, if he seems like he can hold his own, maybe trade Ben Gamel over the offseason and let Grisham be the 4th OF? He'd maybe have to play CF once every couple of weeks barring major injury to Cain, I feel like we could stomach that if his bat holds up, and he'd be a good platoon mate for Braun and potentially could get his feet wet to maybe be the everyday guy in 2021. Really hoping this year is for real with Grisham. Brewers have struggled (Hiura aside) in recent years to develop impact bats. Suddenly plucking a high-OBP power hitter with speed out of thin air would be quite the magic trick.
  8. Update: Travis Shaw has burned his 2nd option. He will enter the 2020 season with 1 option year remaining.
  9. Normally I'd say they want Dubon playing every day, but since they've more or less been splitting time at SS between Arcia and Saladino, I don't see why you don't just split that time between Arcia and Dubon. There's not really that much need for a righty backup OF more than once every few weeks, and that's really only valuable if the guy is hitting better than Gamel would which Saladino isn't. Any chance Brewers are hoping to make a trade for a SS and maybe just want Dubon to continue to show off his talent at AAA with the hopes of trading him for something good?
  10. Yes, our starters have been good lately. Woody, Chacin, Davies and even Anderson have been pitching well and it will help to get Gio and Suter back. When Yelich gets out of his funk (only a guy like him can we say is in a funk because he hasn't hit a HR in a while - he is still getting on base and starting rallies) watch out. It's still just so crazy to look at Yelich's stats month by moth. I would've sworn June would've been his worst month, but nope, 1.149 OPS in June. Even in July he has a 1.137 OPS. His worst month was May with a .935 OPS with 7 homers and only a .228 BABIP (He's definitely made up for that BABIP blip lately though). He really has turned himself into one of the top 3 best hitters in baseball (it varies day to day whether you'd rather have Trout, Bellinger, or Yelich up there at the plate, but those three seem to have really distinguished themselves this year). It is no longer a fluke half season.
  11. Update: Deolis Guerra has had his contract selected from AAA San Antonio. He does not have any options remaining.
  12. Just watched the highlights of the 9th inning from last night, and holy crap that was NOT Kimbrel's fault. Lazy fly ball to RF that Contreras made a terrible effort at and it hit off his glove, then an easy ground ball that would've scored a run anyways but Russell threw home instead of getting the out at 1st. Then what should've been AT LEAST the 3rd out, an easy fly ball to left, ends up being the sac fly that wins the game. As much as I'd love for Kimbrel to totally self destruct, this one's on the defense, which is equally fun I guess.
  13. Can I just say how much more enjoyable these games have been over the past few days with Hiura back in the lineup? I understand (and, for the most part, agree with) why he was in AAA until recently, but as a fan it's nice to just see the best guys on the field lately. Grandal, Yelich, Thames, Moustakas, Hiura, there are a lot of guys in this lineup that are really fun to watch hit. I've also been having more fun watching Woodruff pitch than I've had watching a Brewers pitcher in a while. Yesterday was rough, but I think the Brewers have a good shot to finish off the week strong and go on into the ASB with their heads held high.
  14. Devin Williams seems like the only guy here who should get the Tyrone Taylor treatment. I'm guessing they'd add him to AAA at some point soon.
  15. Update: Travis Shaw has been optioned and will burn his 2nd career option is he spends 20 days in the Minors. Corbin Burnes was recalled a few days shy of burning his 1st career option.
  16. Could also mean that they are trying to limit his innings this year.
  17. Update: Keston Hiura has burned his 2019 option. He will have 2 option years remaining going into 2020. Corbin Burnes will burn his first option if he stays in the Minors through 6/30.
  18. Late Update: Jimmy Nelson reached 5 years of service time last week. He can no longer be optioned to the Minor Leagues without his consent.
  19. Wasn't there a game last week where they put Perez in to play 1B in a spot where they could've easily used Aguilar? I guess my only thought at this point is: say we drop Aguilar and call up Hiura, how often does Hiura actually get to play? Against RHP, you'd have Thames, Shaw, and Moustakas starting most games. Against LHP, you could put in Perez, Hiura, and Moose (or even let Thames play against a few lefties), but that's not going to be much playing time (although most days you could get him a pinch hitting appearance I guess). Hiura may have to wait until next year to finally get playing time unless an injury happens (or they trade Thames and move Shaw or Moose to 1B).
  20. Not sure I've seen a Peralta game in a while (or just haven't been paying attention), but seems like he has more velo today on average than I'm used to seeing. I thought he was more 90-92, and then maybe a few times an inning you'd seen 93-95. Seeing more in that 93-95 range with regularity today. He seems to be locating well today too.
  21. That is accurate. He's not a first-division CF in the major leagues. He's a LF. That said, he should be better than he is out there so a world exists where he turns into a fringe-average defender in center. It just so happens we could use a new LF in a couple years, so that might work out perfectly...
  22. Earlier today on https://www.mlb.com/brewers/prospects/stats/affiliates, I saw that Rasmussen was listed as the starter for the AA game tonight, but looks like Cam Roegner is starting instead. Any word?
  23. (Late) Updates: Burch Smith has burned his 3rd and final option, and will enter 2020 with no options remaining. The clock on Keston Hiura's first option is running. He will burn his first option after June 22nd. Jimmy Nelson is now the owner of the most complicated line. It will be simplified a bit if he makes it to Wednesday on the big league roster, when he will reach 5 years service time.
