  1. Where will the Brewers Affiliates be located in 2021? JJ Cooper (BA) posted an article today describing it currently as the 'Wild West' as MILB teams are trying to get connected to MLB teams. My predictions are: AAA - Omaha (with KC moving to Wichita) AA - Biloxi High A - Carolina (ownership) Low A - Wisconsin
  2. I could agree with nate82 that Ed Howard could be the BPA if he is on the board. If you take Soderstrom you do so with the understanding he will likely not catch in the major leagues. He was the backup catcher on his high school team and Jim Callis said the last high school catcher drafted in the first round that caught in MLB and had a WAR of 5+ (not named Mauer) was drafted in 1992 (and later caught with the Brewers). If/when they draft college pitchers, it will be interested to see if they build off last year's trend of taking strikeout pitchers. Could that be a result of previous drafting of Arnett, Jungmann, Bradley, etc.?
  3. I would guess the fourth or fifth round for Little, at best.
  4. Little has a chance to sneak into the second half of this upcoming draft. I think Roger Clemens also went to San Jacinto.
  5. BPA is always the best option, but it doesn't hurt if that fills in a void in the organization.
  6. With the decision by MLB to limit the draft to five rounds and the likelihood that the majority of undrafted signings would be college "senior signs", hopefully the "top player on the board" five times could fill in some organizational weaknesses. Compared to other highly rated farm systems, the Brewers strength in numbers appear to be in younger players, specifically outfielders and catchers. Landing some older pitchers and middle infielders would likely be preferred. Hopefully they can also sell some top "senior signs" on the opportunity joining a lower rated farm system could offer.
  7. People don't realize that college programs are only able to give out 11.7 full scholarships per year spread out over 27 players with each player getting at least a 25% scholarship. Baseball is not a revenue-generating college sport, so the players are not all on "full rides".
  8. Likely MLB knew this was coming and it led into their decision earlier. Unless colleges have an issue with having these players come back it gives every college player more leverage than they had before (the decision) and probably makes the majority of "undrafted" signings players who were seniors this year (which will be a fairly small number).
  9. The primary selling point for the Brewers with undrafted players may be the current perception that their farm system is one of the weakest in baseball.
  10. With the decrease in the size of the draft and the delay (if not cancellation) of the minor league system, you have to wonder if Colorado Springs baseball is done.
  11. It sounds like there would be an unlimited amount of undrafted FAs allowed. How many sign may depend on whether the NCAA grants baseball players an extra year of eligibility. If they don't, a lot of college juniors may have to swallow pride and sign for the 20K. College seniors likely won't be taken in those first five rounds.
  12. If the draft goes down to five rounds and any UDFA's can only earn $20K, I would stop scouting HS seniors this year and focus on the college ranks. I can't imagine many high schoolers would sign for $20K.
  13. If you were Stearns, would you buy yourself a prospect(s) by picking up a corner infielder (Belt or Seager) with a big contract?
  14. Roberto Ramos would be an interesting prospect to platoon with Braun. Free agent-wise, unless you are going Howie K., you are probably talking someone like Adams, Thames, or maybe a surprise like Kipnis?
  15. I am going to go with Alex Avila in a platoon with Pina. Up until this year, Pina was a much better hitter against LHP, so a lefty platoon partner makes sense.
  16. If they go the veteran route, Mike Jirschele from the Royals would be a great pick.
  17. I agree with turborickey that there is a good chance that Arcia is the everyday shortstop next year. With that said, I would not mind the Brewers offering a two-year deal for $10-12 million total for Jose Iglesius.
  18. Arcia's arbitration number is not totally out of line, but it would definitely be nice to get an upgrade at short.
  19. I really hope Grandal comes back on a one or two year deal. He is a great fit as a catcher and can do some platooning with Thames at first. If not, I wouldn't be surprised if the team simply goes forward with a Pina/Nottingham combination.
  20. Five of the top 120 teams in minor league average attendance were in the Brewers system. Colorado Springs could likely be one of the 42 on their way out under the plan, with its run down stadium. Could San Antonio be the team headed to CHS Stadium in St. Paul? San Antonio has the population base, but Wolff Stadium could use some work.
  21. It will be interesting to see if "team" names leak out that make up the 42 teams. From a current Brewers perspective, San Antonio has the population. Do they have the stadium? Do Biloxi, Carolina, and Wisconsin have the population base? Would they take into effect annual attendance at the locations?
  22. Grandal was great this year, but analytical teams are not going to shell out a big long-term contract to a soon-to-be 31 y/o catcher. Posada is probably the most notable exception, otherwise many of the better catchers see a decline around their 31st or 32nd birthday. Molina, Posey, and Martin all made a lot of money this year with minimal production. A contract longer than two years would be quite a risk.
  23. If not Iglesius, what about someone like "Brock Star" for at least a platoon? Seager is a nice thought, but the current organization does not have a great deal of assets to trade that would not negatively impact the major league team.
  24. There just are not a great deal of "elite" shortstops out there (probably less than ten), so it doesn't make sense to spend much money on 11-30. I don't know what Arcia's arby number would be, but maybe they take a flyer on someone other than Saladino. A real "outside the box" suggestion who will not have his option picked up and could be "cheap" would be Starlin Castro.
  25. I would guess at least 25 MLB teams would trade the Brewers their GM straight up. No GM is perfect because they are human and so are the players they trade for or draft. Stearns and Counsell have made this team relevant.
