  1. Every guy they drafted last year, except for perhaps Zamora, has a plus bat. Mitchell, Warren and Cantrelle are all solid bats that also have top-flight athleticism. Weimer is a classic corner OF power guy. Even Zamora has displayed a good bat despite his rep as a defensive whiz. He was a guy who likely fell due to missing most of last season with an injury. I think you are spot on saying that they focus on athletes, at least in the top part of the draft. The only time they really deviated from that was with Hiura. Jury is still out on that one. I disagree completely about Warren and Cantrelle being plus bats and even Mitchell who appears to be a very good prospect was drafted more for his athleticism than his pure hitting ability.
  2. Nobody said the offense was fantastic. When everyone is healthy it's probably average or maybe even slightly above average. It's not woefully short or embarrassing. If they don't get everyone healthy, it's reasonable to assume that they'll make more moves, like the one they did to get Adames. This offense is below average with everyone healthy. This team didn't hit last season and has looked pretty terrible most of this season besides a few games lately against Arizona and Pittsburgh who in particular couldn't throw a strike. We did what we needed against some terrible teams which is important if you are going to be a playoff team but it won't be nearly good enough to beat the good pitching staffs.
  3. Ok guys clearly this offense is fantastic and doesn't need any upgrades at all. Also Bradley adds so much with the glove that his 155 batting average is really not that problematic.
  4. This is just so damn dramatic. The Brewers are in a tie for first place and probably have had one of the most injured teams in the league. Has there been some struggles offensively? Sure. But there a lot of teams that can say that. Are there some areas we can target to improve? Also true. But my god man, step off the ledge a bit. Who is this team missing that moves the needle offensively. They miss Wong for sure but more for his defense than his bat. This team is being carried by the starting pitching and the best reliever in baseball but they are woefully short on offense.
  5. I don't follow the draft all that closely but are the Brewers looking at any position players who happen to have plus bats. I think the organization focuses too much on up the middle athletes at the expense of hitting ability. Hopefully the team focuses on pitching and position players with plus bats.
  6. Picking up the one year and 10 million left on Brad Hand's contract when he was dumped by Cleveland would have been a much better use of our resources than wasting it on a defensive center fielder that hits worse than some of our pitchers.
  7. A small market franchise can't really afford to be spending 30 million or so on two center fielders that can't hit. I totally understand wanting an insurance policy with Cain who seems to have just sat around doing nothing during his vacation but we didn't have to spend what we did on Bradley when the guy just can't hit. Kevin Pillar and Jake Marisnick were two similar players to Bradley who were available at much cheaper values on one year deals. Stearns continues to fail again and again when it comes to putting an adequate offense together. Whether its through the draft where we focus on athletes over hitters or the free agent market where we consistently overpay for bad hitters with Bradley being the latest example. We are going to waste what is the best top of the rotation in the history of the franchise unless we improve what is an embarrassing offense. Even if we make the playoffs what is this lineup capable of doing against the pitching staffs of the Mets and Dodgers. Stearns has a lot of work ahead of him at this deadline because we need at least two viable hitters if we are to stand any chance against good pitching which is what we would be facing in the playoffs.
  8. I would guess that having a good hitting coach would help these two players make the proper adjustments but Stearns insists on keeping Haines when its 100% clear that he is incompetent.
  9. Look at this lineup and tell me who is drastically underperforming career norms? JBJ is really the only hitter who is significantly worse than you would expect. Everybody else really isn’t underperforming, they just aren’t good. If you want to tell me Cain is as well then fine. We will have to disagree as I don’t expect a guy at the tail end of his career, who hadn’t played baseball in a year and half, to be any better than he has been. Haines will eventually take the fall but the front office is largely responsible for this Stearns & Co. have put together a terrible roster. There's no doubt about it. It wasn't done overnight. It was done systematically over the last couple years through bad trades and bad signings. Only thing you left out was bad drafts.
  10. Somehow Lindblom would put up zeroes if he was facing the Brewers offense.
  11. I don't see how this team is anything other than a seller at the deadline. The question really is will we move Hader and if we do will Stearns trade him for more position players that can't hit.
  12. Stearns is just being flat out stubborn not firing Haines and not releasing Lindblom.
  13. Good thing we traded away two more relievers so we can see more of guys like Perdomo.
  14. I agree that Counsell hasn't done a good job lately but Haines should be gone and Stearns should be feeling some heat for putting together this roster. I will stick with the narrative of “if Counsell wasn’t from Whitefish Bay”...it’s gross. He stinks now and he is the manager of a team that has almost every hitter significantly underachieving. It’s on him. Do you think this is a good lineup because I sure as hell don't.
  15. Finally the Brewers have three excellent starting pitchers and this is the lineup they surround them with. May as well get a kings ransom for one of our aces since the team never scores for them anyway. Then again don't really want to move an ace starter for more "athletes" that can't hit.
