  1. It really seems that, especially this year, there are 5 excellent teams, 5 terrible teams, and roughly 20 mediocre teams. It's a bummer being on the mediocre pile. I just hate the thought of this many teams making the playoffs every year. MLB was the one sport where the regular season meant something and they are just cheapening it to the point of it being ridiculous
  2. Eh this game doesn't matter or anything let Houser give up 10 runs before taking him out
  3. When this team misses the playoffs blame it on how they played against teams like the Pirates and maybe now the Royals.
  4. Looks like another middle infielder with little power to me. The prospect sites always seem to overrate middle infielders who aren't great hitters. Both Arcia and Escobar were top 20 overall prospects that never justified their rankings. I have more hope for Urias than guys like that but I doubt he will ever hit more than 10 or so HRs per season. Best case scenario is probably .280 or so hitter with a .350 OBP who slugs in the low .400s. Not a bad player for sure but definitely not worthy of the hype. The question going forward is whether or not he can handle shortstop well enough and if he can that would be a plus. The trade made sense at the time as its harder to find good middle infielders than corner bats like Grisham who should not be playing CF.
  5. Do the Brewers trade for CC if they were playoff bound regardless.
  6. One other thing to consider is why should teams spend say an extra 10 million to go from potentially 80-85 wins when the 80 will get you in the playoffs. The incentive to get better is so much less when it doesn't take much to get in.
  7. Why play a 162 game season if there is a chance of having a 75 win playoff team. Baseball was the one sport where the regular season actually meant something and this idiotic commissioner is destroying it.
  8. So it's just about wanting someone to "take the fall?" That doesn't seem like a very effective way to put a coaching staff together. A hitting coach has the responsibility of getting the best out of his players. When pretty much the entire lineup has underachieved the hitting coach rightfully should get the blame.
  9. You do realize that there are more job components to being a hitting coach than what a fan sees as on-field performance, right? Like I said earlier, whether they fire him or not doesn't really concern me either way. But you have this weird gripe against the guy and seem to blame him almost fully for the Brewers inconsistent offense this season. As has been pointed out many times by many posters, the issues are quite a bit deeper and systematic than simply canning the hitting coach. This seems to be an organization-wide hitting approach problem, and it starts with the players that the organization employs. If the employees do not take direction from their superiors, and do not perform their duties as directed, it is time for the organization to replace them with players who do. Of course its not all his fault that the team has a terrible offense. I am not expecting Haines to turn guys like Sogard and Peterson into good players but the vast majority of this lineup has underachieved some very badly like Narvaez and someone has to take the hit for that. Other than Gyorko there is not one other player hitting better than expected.
  10. Isn't the first round best 2 of 3. Would you want to win 95 plus games and then have to face a .500 team with two good starting pitchers. The regular season should mean something and this just cheapens it completely.
  11. So what exactly is the argument in favor of keeping him. If only we could all be as unproductive at our jobs as Haines is at his and still stay employed. I guess I live in a world where accountability and job performance actually means something which may not be the case when it comes to being the hitting coach for the Brewers.
  12. Dodgers don't want or need him and I think Braun wants to end his career where he started. Given his close relationship with the Owner and the Owner's son, if Braun plays next year (which is the Big IF) it will almost certainly be with the Brewers. 11 million dollars is nothing in today's game for a good hitter especially a one year deal. Brewers are not going to pay Braun 15 million next season. With the buyout being 4 million I would be surprised if he makes more than 6 million total.
  13. Even $7-$8mil is expensive. Stearns dumped Thames to save like a million dollars. September 4th Braun had a .600 OPS and at .705 a few days ago. Braun could put up a respectable year, but a 37 year old with an extensive injury history isn’t exactly a slam dunk. Additionally without a DH he is a 1B/OFer with the bulk of that time at 1B where he is questionable defensively. I mean I’d bring him back, but he probably won’t be very cheap unless he just signs a contract for the buyout money ($4mil). Only way he does that though is if he has zero interest playing for anyone else. I think he will sign for the buyout money plus an extra 1-2 million. So really all that would be costing the team is an extra 2 million at most. I could be wrong but I don't think Braun wants to play for any other team besides the Brewers.
  14. Dodgers don't want or need him and I think Braun wants to end his career where he started.
  15. I don't think money will be an issue for Braun. He has made a ton in his career and I am sure that he wants to finish his career in a Brewers uniform. If he wants to play I think he will do it for a couple of million more than the buyout and thats what I expect to happen.
  16. When you watch a guy like Arcia just flailing away trying to hit it 500 ft when all he needed was to try to get a single or at least move the runner over to win the game the other night and you see Narvaez with that ridiculous uppercut fail to make any adjustments the hitting coach has to shoulder the blame.
  17. If we don't judge a hitting coach on the players actually hitting what do we go on. If you don't place any blame on Haines why have a hitting coach at all.
  18. Woodruff wasn't as good as he can be but the blame once again has to go to the offense that was non existent after the first inning. Its nice that we have had games scoring 18 and 19 runs but what good is it when they score 2 or less most other nights.
  19. Its moves like Sogard and Peterson that really have me questioning both Counsell and Stearns. I actually liked the Holt signing because he has shown an ability throughout his career to get on base but we gave him barely any opportunities to get going. Why was Sogard and now Peterson given an extremely long leash yet Holt and even Smoak who while not good is certainly a better player than Peterson given less chances. Both Stearns and Counsell have this affinity for middle infield types that flat out can't hit. I hate to rip into a guy like Peterson who is trying his hardest but its pretty easy to see that he should have never been an option for this roster much less playing as much as he has.
  20. I am going to stop watching so maybe they will shock us and come back. Go Brewers
  21. DeJong has no range at all. That looked Yuniesque.
