  1. This is all about Stearns wantin the Mets job since it opened up. The Mets made too many moves that were Stearns type of moves including bringing in guys like Escobar, Curtiss, and Vogelbach. I have suspected for some time that Stearns was in fact advising his good friend Eppler on what to do.
  2. The Brewers had a chance to upgrade and hire Luhnow but went in house which I believe to be a big mistake. Good luck Arnold hopefully you prove me wrong.
  3. Turns out I was right. Wish that I wasn't but it was just a matter of time before he left.
  4. You might want to admit I was right but I doubt you will do so.
  5. The Alderson position has nothing to do with a possible president of baseball operations hire; they are two completely different positions. The Mets are going to hire someone to handle the business side of things and they will eventually also hire a POBO unless they decide to give Eppler that title which would then mean they would hire someone as a GM to work under him. So no Sandy Alderson has nothing to do with David Stearns whatsoever. Alderson was hired by Cohen to give him a look of credibility so the other owners would vote in favor of his purchase of the team despite his shaky business dealings.
  6. I think Stearns has done a poor job since the 2021 trade deadline but overall has been a very good GM. Still I don't think its smart or appropriate for any organization to have their top executive working on an expiring contract so I hope this gets resolved once and for all this offseason.
  7. The Mets have not hired a president of baseball operations and Eppler is supposedly one of Stearns best friends so the speculation will continue until Stearns contract is extended.
  8. The time has come to discuss the elephant in the room and that is the situation with David Stearns. He has one year left on his contract with the constant and consistent rumors that he is interested in the Mets job. The team either needs Stearns to commit long term and sign an extension or he should be allowed to leave now. We cannot let this guy run the team through the 2023 season knowing he is gone after the year. As professional as he has been we must not trust the future of the franchise to an executive who plans on leaving. I know most just want to ignore this situation but in my opinion Stearns should either be extended now or let go. If he wants out just let it be and replace him with his old boss Luhnow who is still reponsible for the Astros continued success or John Hart who built two sustained winners in Cleveland and Atlanta. Personally I have no interest in handing the reigns to an unproven Arnold and would like to see either Luhnow or Hart running things if Stearns doesn't want to be here long term. Hopefully Stearns is happy in Milwaukee and wants to stay but if he doesn't the time has come to move on.
  9. So what is it going to take to change the thread title which looks more ridiculous each and every day of this postseason. Hader had a bad month so we decided to essentially give him away and now that he is back to being the best reliever in baseball Stearns looks like a fool.
  10. As you said Hader is a hall of fame level talent and that level of player with 1.5 years of control was worth far more than the Brewers received and if the market felt otherwise we should have just kept him for two more playoff runs.
  11. Now this is the type of response that I can respect. I hope Gasser is the next Sandy Koufax and Ruiz the next Ricky Henderson but I just don't see it.
  12. Transactions don't work out for any number of reasons but this one was easy to criticize at the time since we traded away the best reliever in baseball when we were in first place and didn't get anything in return to be excited about.
  13. A best case scenario of an Eric Lauer type and a probable 5th outfielder is not good value for Hader. The Brewers would have been better off just keeping the best reliever in baseball and letting him walk as a free agent after 2023 than accepting this inferior offer. Who knows maybe the Brewers could have gone on an inprobable run and won a championship with Hader saving a bunch of games. If these are the types of offers we are likely to receive for Burnes and Woodruff we may as well just let them both walk in two years as free agents. The thought of turning great assets into mediocre minor leaguers is not something that interests me at all.
  14. How does any fan of the Brewers watch these playoffs and not come away infuriated with Stearns. Good for Josh for once again being the best reliever in baseball and shame on the Brewers for flushing away a playoff spot with little future value to show for it. Giving away the best reliever in baseball for a pitcher whose upside is probably Eric Lauer and an outfield prospect who is most likley a 5th outfielder and the 3rd or 4th best outfield prospect of this team in AAA was incredibly stupid the day the deal was made and continues to look worse by the day. As far as I am concerned Stearns can go back home to New York as long as we replace him with his old boss in Houston Jeff Luhnow or the great John Hart. No interest whatsoever in handing this franchise to Arnold who bares some responsibilty for the fact that this front office has failed time and time again starting at the 2021 trade deadline through this years deadline which will go down as one of the worst in team history.
  15. I know the last post was directed at someone else but I either want Stearns to commit to this team long term or leave now. I don't see any upside to having a lame duck executive directing the future of a franchise he has no intention of leading past the next season.
  16. If David Stearns himself can admit it was a mistake why would anyone else defend this deal.
  17. You don't trade a guy like Hader in the middle of the season when you are in first place without getting an overwhelming return. We can argue the semantics of whether or not Hader is the best in the game or not but what cannot be denied is he has been a great reliever and that the deal for at least the 2022 season was an unmitigated disaster. I don't see how getting a starting pitcher with a probable 4th or 5th starter ceiling and an outfielder who was the third best outfield prospect in AAA for this organization is a solid return for a player the caliber of Josh Hader. Stearns screwed up which even he admitted yet you have to carry water for this organization even when the man that made the deal pretty much said it backfired.
  18. You just have to go out of your way to defend anything this team does. The fact is we traded the best reliever in baseball for a completely underwhelming return which cost this team a playoff spot. Stearns even admitted it was a bad move yet you still have to defend it.
  19. The complaints are far more about trading the best reliever in baseball for scraps.
  20. Hader looks terrible. Its a good thing we traded him for a probable 4/5 starter and 5th outfielder.
  21. You are conveniently ignoring that Hader has been the nest reliever in baseball over the last few seasons and using a sample of a few weeks to lower his value. No way is a probable 4/5 starter and a likely 5th outfielder a good return for the best relief pitcher in baseball.
  22. Watching these playoffs makes it all the more obvious that we didn't get enough for Hader. Its hard to believe that teams like Toronto, Seattle, and the LAD were not interested in Hader and wouldn't trade more than a probable 5th outfielder, backend starter and awful veteran reliever with an expiring contract for the best reliever in baseball. As for Lamet it was all financial as the Brewers didn't want to pay his contract so the DFA was all about saving money.
  23. Would have been nice if someone asked Stearns if he plans on being in Milwaukee long term because he really should either get extended or leave this offseason. Sorry if I am alone on this but a lame duck executive should not be leading this franchise. Don't get me wrong I want him to stay but I do not want him handling the future of a franchise he plans on leaving after next season.
  24. Is anyone interested besides me in addressing the elephant in the room which is Stearns and his contractual situation. I think its unreasonable to have the top decisionmaker in the organization as a lame duck just biding time till he can go home to the big spending Mets. Stearns can no longer run this team without committing long term and I don't see why others don't agree. If we are being honest the guy has done a pretty terrible job since at least the 21 trade deadline with the Hader deal basically being a sign of completely waiving the white flag when the team was in first place. I am in favor of keeping Stearns on board long term but if he is unwilling to commit let him go. If he wants out go out and get Luhnow or John Hart who are just the type of great organization builders that Stearns has been with both having the long term track records that Arnold does not have. Keeping Stearns on the last year of his deal with no extension in place should not even be a consideration for an organization that always has to have the future in mind when making moves. Personally I would bring in John Hart and keep Arnold or whoever Hart decides to choose as his eventual successor as he is probably close to retirement. No matter what letting Stearns run things on the last year of a deal is beyond foolish and something I hope the organization chooses not to do.
  25. The first order of business is to either sign Stearns long term or let him go. The guy has been terrible since the 2021 trade deadline and we cannot trust a lame duck executive to do whats best for the future of this organization. If Stearns wants out let him go and get a proven winner like John Hart or Jeff Luhnow instead of handing the team over to Arnold who is unproven. Luhnow and Hart are both guys with extremely long and successful track records. Luhnow is who I would hire since Hart is probably closer to retirement but if he wants in he should be considered based on what he did in Cleveland and what his Atlanta teams have done since he was forced out.
