  1. You aren't wrong and most posters agree (as do I) that it is too early to judge the off-season as a whole. Having said that I respect you as a poster and enjoy what you bring to the board. Let the other stuff go.

  3. Admittedly, I was reaching but I doubt there is much too the idea.

  5. Folks, there are certainly posters who are over the top with the twitter-esque negativity on this board. There are also the equally over the top positivity crusaders. Neither one is enjoyable.

  7. Eh, if they can find a cost controlled OF with the skillset they like which in turn frees up one of the MiLB OFs for a trade for something they need then it could be understood. But if Arizona is looking for MLB pieces I'm not sure who they give up. Maybe Mitchell and Lauer?

  9. Fair enough but the post I was responding to equivocally stated that the pitching depth and especially the rotation was better and deeper. I don't think that is objectively true at this point.

  11. Sure, but are the "depth" arms they have picked up even that? Maybe, maybe not but it sure isn't a given.

  13. The bolded is probably more likely. I don't think they have any shot at Murphy, Jansen or Vasquez.

  15. Box, Gott, Suter, all were useful pitchers last year. Sure, they picked ups some depth arms. That doesn't mean those depth arms are better than the depth arms they lost. You can't just say they singed a bunch of depth arms when those arms really have zero MLB track record and say its all good.

  17. I disagree. Given what left I don't think they have really improved pitching. They picked up some arms but we really don't know anything about the quality of those arms. They may be useful, they may be trash.

  19. I think we should all be prepared for the eventuality that the catching rotation is currently rostered. This screams of "we tried". I just cannot remember the FO being vocal about what they want to do and then actually doing that. Big red flags for me.

  21. I hope you are right, I really do. But making that jump successfully is super rare. I think he has the talent to have a long, successful MLB career, but I'm tapping the brakes before I call him the next Brooks Robinson. It is certainly exciting to have a potentially elite bat in the system, though. You really don't need to condescend by saying I don't have a feel for prospects. The chances of him struggling in his first MLB action, whenever that occurs, are substantially higher than him coming up and immediately becoming the "3rd best bat on the team". It used to be rare but it's becoming more common by the season for players to ascend quickly through a given system. I think it's arbitrary to assume he will be a star based on his AFL performance but I think it's equally arbitrary to assume he will struggle upon promotion so he should stay down until 2020. Whether the right decision is to have a space for him in June or bring in help for the entire 2019 season, I trust DS and our evaluators to make that assessment correctly. Personally, I think it ends up being sooner rather than later. I just cant see spending the resources at that particular position.
  22. I think it's incredibly naive to think a team would never trade a player to a team that "fleeced" them in a different trade. That would amount to a GM admitting that the other GM is better than they are and that the first GM could never be as good as the latter GM. I highly doubt ANY GM would think that and if I were the owner and my GM thought that way I would immediately fire that GM.
  23. Lots of ways to view these deals and I'm not sure any of them are 100% wrong or 100% right. I like what they have done but my overall opinion is dependent on acquiring at least one starting pitcher. If they don't do that then my opinion will be decidedly less optimistic.
