  1. While I'm sure there's some danger if you happen to be where the worst part comes ashore, if it was about to hit the Nebraska/Kansas/Dakotas area, this would be story #7 on the news. The old media still thinks it's the United Eastern States of America.
  2. Endless questions of "Do I look fat?" I would assume. Lucky it lasted with that to overcome.
  3. If Jungmann or Bradley see the majors before 2014, they'd be in the top 1% of P's ever drafted. Not realistic.
  4. Neither Narveson or Estrada are available tonight. There would only be 5 relievers ready to go tonight if they sent down Dillard or DLC.
  5. Jungmann has to throw a professional pitch or two before he's penciled into a MLB rotation. Doug specifically mentioned Narveson's salary last September when asked about him returning. They handed him a spot even though Capuano could have been brought back for $2M or so. Those are the guys that allow them to have all those spendy players.
  6. You can't claim spendy players like that. They could have claimed him, had him get hurt, and SL could have let him go. No reward, some risk. There was no upside to claiming him, so, no one did. They deal with reality, and know one mistake could cost millions.
  7. Narveson has oodles of value because he's so cheap. He makes $425K, and will next year, or close to it. Compare that to what the other SP's make. I don't see Chris going anywhere.
  8. They'll look to replace Prince with their new 1B and SS. They're unlikely to find anything close to Prince's power, so they'll look at OBP. Just like the A's did years ago, they'll need to replace Fielder's .400ish OBP and Yuni's .300ish OBP. That's 700. If Gamel/RH bat is 1B, their projection plus SS needs to equal 700. You might be able to count on some improvement from Lucroy and McGehee, but I doubt they'll go with a good field/no hit SS. At very least, they'll need a .330-.340 OBP from that spot. No idea what Hairston is thinking, but he'd be a great guy to have as a fallback already on the roster. There's a very limited group of SS's who can get on base a third of the time.
  9. I don't see any way they pencil a guy into the rotation with 3-4 AAA starts, especially a 22-23 year-old. He might end up starting if they lose a SP or two to injury, but not in the top five.
  10. The White Sox have a young SS who is blocked, he was mentioned in that Gamel swap no one knows if it was legit or not. Desmond might still be an everyday SS, but he's probably more likely to be a utility guy. Something else to keep in mind is how expensive Morgan/Gomez will be when both are arby eligible. Likely not a long-term solution.
  11. He has a career ERA of 4.19 as a reliever, and keeps the ball in the park. He's plenty passable in a middle relief role.
  12. Gindl will only be 23, and should play every day somewhere. Schafer should as well, due to his limited AB's. Maldonado does not project as an everyday catcher, so if he's a backup, no problem.
  13. Hart's age, level, and production almost mirror Gindl's. I have no concern how tall Caleb is, and am not sure why anyone would, except he may break down a bit quicker at the end of his career.
  14. Doug mentioned the other day Gindl is one of the youngest successful players in AAA. I compared his stats to Hart's a while back and they are all but the same. Caleb is going to play in the majors for a long time, in all likelihood.
  15. Mass, someone said Fiers would have to be added, either the JS or Adam. I do not know if they are correct, but I was assuming they were. Adam from MLB.com posted that yesterday.
  16. Well, compared to Wil Inman, he's smooth as silk. I just checked 4 scouting reports on him, and 3 said his motion was ok or solid, and one said he may need to simplify a bit. Sounds like for the most part, it's fine.
  17. Well, compared to Wil Inman, he's smooth as silk. I just checked 4 scouting reports on him, and 3 said his motion was ok or solid, and one said he may need to simplify a bit. Sounds like for the most part, it's fine.
  18. Maldonado is on the 40, and will almost certainly spend several years in the majors because of his defense. If he's not a prospect, Hank Blanco has never had a career. Fiers looks to be on the 40 this offseason as well. From what I've seen of DLC, he's got more talent than half the pitchers in MLB, it's just never been harnessed. Last year, Vogelsong was released from AAA, maybe twice. Giving up on guys with talent does not have much upside. Guys that can hold down a reserve role for the minimum for a couple seasons have value.
  19. McClendon is likely headed to the Mets and doesn't have much ceiling, but is a decent middle relief guy, also at AAA. And I have no reason not to count Gamel, he's in the system. I said it then, and I'll say it again, it's not a top five or ten system, but anyone who called it the worst is showing ignorance, bias, and not a whole lot of research.
  20. The Crew had no luck bringing in experienced SP's last year because they had a rotation set, and barring an injury, it'll be the same thing next year. Why would anyone want to come to MIL wehn you can go to a team with 3 open spots?
  21. Gamel and Green can be eligible, if on the 40 (Green would have to be added) on 9/1 (8/31). You can add guys if you have players on the DL, and they'll have Parra, Stetter, and maybe others.
  22. I think Doug will find a loogy. Randy Choate would be perfect, Dolug tried to get him last offseason, but will be claimed by many teams and FLA has no reason to give him up. After Choate is gone, he'll look at others and find someone. They've looked for a bat off the bench in July, so that makes sense as well. You don't need 12 pitchers if you make the playoffs, so a bench guy makes sense.
  23. I can't believe Rivera has any more value than Nieves. I assume Doug would give Mike to any team that told him they would be giving him a major league roster spot. Maldonado is better, younger, and on the 40.
  24. In 2008, they had 37-39 guys up in late September, all except a guy or three who was hurt, and Hernan Iribarren, who was not brought up. Can you imagine the outcry if they'd run out of pitchers in a 17 inning game, or position players and have to have Yo hit? They'll have plenty up...I'd say a minimum of Gomez, Weeks, 3rd C, Gamel, and 2-3 pitchers in case of blowout to save the regular guys...that would be 32 by itself. 35 or so after AAA ends, or more, would be my guess.
  25. I think SL is 12-7 in non-MIL contests. They have been playing well, and added good pieces for the stretch run, though Rasmus was by far the best player in any deal. They're problem right now is they are in the same division with a team who has gone 18-2. That's a tough road to have much success on.
