  1. sometimes you have to think about the fans in what players you acquire Fan favorites like Sexson should have been "overpaid" and Prince should have been traded. I don't know how they manage to dial the phone.
  2. I don't think his stock has fallen at all, I just feel many had unrealistic expectations based on his stats in leagues where only a couple players ever see the major leagues. Add that to his size and lack of velocity, he is what he is...a nice prospect, but several steps below Yo, and probably a couple behind Carlos V. He's a lot better than I am, but I sure don't see stardom.

  5. Choate and Stetter are nice role players, but hardly should make the team, That's 14, 13 with Yo down. 12 as Parra has options. As I said, no hurry at all.
  6. Ben, there's no wait at all now, I don't think you can, not is it financially intelligent to "raise capacity" for 3 hours of the year. The odds of a season ending series being for a playoff spot for both teams is tiny...and not all that big for either club. It's probably 10 times more likely to be meaningless.
  7. I don't hear any concern about "too many pitchers". Given we lost one before camp started, and another 1-2 are bound to go down, I'm in no hurry to trade pitching until late March. Vargas would be an upgrade as a #5 SP for a minimum of 25 teams, before injuries strike.
  8. I'd say this is much like folks who don't really think drunk driving is that big of a deal. Exactly how many people have to die before it's a problem. If you google "pit bull attacks", you'll find several in the last...week. Many big breeds, especially rotweilers, are not what I would prefer around my son. That said, the many breeds commonly referred to as "pit bulls", if one of those were wandering around unleashed, it'd be a 911 call the second I see it...just like I would a drunk driver. Take all the risks you want. I choose not to.
  9. Every time my wife and I see a story on a dog attack, we raise our finger in the air and wait for the inevitable reveal that it was a pit bull. It's about 90% of the time over the last 15 years. I would not allow my 5 year-old within a mile of one.
  10. I'm not contradicting myself at all. Pit bulls often attack for no reason, despite the fact many are fine. I'd be happy with any other breed. Some folks need a super deluxe breed of the month. They will always come from breeders, until their time has past, and then in a year or two, the shelters will be full of them.
  11. I've never tried ramen seasoning on other stuff, but we use Little Caeser's "spice packs" on tons of stuff. Just a perfect all-over mixture.
  12. If they go up $1-3 a year, on average, that would put 4th level at about $25-45 and club at $45-65. It'd be a safe guess to figure the cheap seats will go up slower, so I would guess about $25-28 for terrace reserved and $55-60 for club. Another thought would ask what NBA "regular" prices will be...
  13. I always assumed the sponsor paid for the bobbles, as their name is mentioned a zillion times.
  14. I'd never get a pit bull, issues abound with them.
  15. Creamy chicken mushroom is a good flavor. I always add garlic to any flavor. I also used to have them with pasta sauces, just throw out the foil "flavor" packet. Quicker and easier than boiling pasta.
  16. While a Cubs' fan winning may play a part, the main reason is to sell tiks for 9/25. FA night always draws 30K, even when the team was very poor.
  17. I do giggle when you think of how many folks wanted to keep him and trade "that unproven prospect Prince". Unathletic players rarely age gracefully, especially when they hit 30. As for Briggs' thought, I think it'll be a shock if Sexson is still playing in a year or two, never mind '12. He's made about $60M, those guys tend not to stick around when it gets tough.
  18. Do bands really "tour basements"? I could only fit like 15 people in my basement, and I'm sure the sound would not be very good either...
  19. Wins do measure how many times a pitcher pitched 5+ innings and left with the lead. Usually, guys with a lot of quality starts also have a lot of wins, though you will find a hard luck guy in there, usually from a bad team. I do pay attention to wins over the long haul, but I never look at losses, as if a guy has a good ERA, his L's would go away if he went to a better team, or just had better luck.
  20. I think the child adoption/humane society comparison is very common sensical. I would also say needing a specific breed or gender is the same as looking only for a blue-eyed, blond haired girl to adopt. I do not understand why it matters for either, but some insist. I would assume it's about $150-200 to adopt from a shelter, as it was $110-130 or so for Ronnie 8 years ago. I am also all but positive they will either waive that, set up payments, or reduce it if you can provide a good home for an unwanted dog.
  21. Recte, it might have went in your spam.
  22. If I'm a big fan, I'd much rather go to several games rather than one. I let others have the opening day tickets this year, as they'll sell out easily. I'll gladly add 2-3 to others.
  23. I would not expect 100 people to camp out, but I suppose the demand for opener tiks could make it profitable to do so. Actually, I think it's going to be warm compared to what we're used to. Maybe more than I would expect.
  24. ESPN used to be so good...it's just astounding how far they have fallen.
  25. I've spoken on this many times, but the only difference between a reputable dealer and a puppy mill is how often they clean the cages. They are both bringing unwanted animals into the world for profit, and deserve nothing but scorn. I would never get an animal anywhere but at a shelter, and the idea of paying $600 for an animal while many are being put to sleep is abhorrent. Sure, you might have to wait a bit if you want the latest flavor of the month, or a cute puppy. I'd give my cash to a terrorist before any kind of "breeder". I would equate what they do with the folks who buy up web sites...sadly legal, but very unethical and a pathetic way to make a living. RoCo, I'm sorry for your loss. We've had Ronnie 8 years, and we can't imagine life without him.
