  1. And that Braun guy is looking pretty good too. No, he's got a hitch in his swing. Won't amount to anything. Heh. I think we'll be blaming that "hitch" for him having "only" a .350 OBP by 2008...at the latest.
  2. I actually sent a movie back to Netflix without finishing it, never watched part of a rental or walked out of the theater. Punch Drunk Love...I'm still wondering what the plot was, other than show me some guy has an incredibly annoying family. The pudding subplot that was always mentioned in reviews...was like 15 seconds of nothing.
  3. I'm sorry I doubted you Carlos V. Looks like he, Dillard, and Ty, despite pitching in a pitcher's park in '05, all have talent as well.
  4. No word on the nature of Jaramillo's injury Perhaps he strained his ability to hit.
  5. No word on the nature of Jaramillo's injury Perhaps he strained his ability to hit.
  6. I assume the lower bonus guys were out of college eligibility. They only have indy ball as negotiating leverage, which means they basically have no leverage at all.
  7. If they lose 10 in a row, or deal Lee, it'll be a race between him and Xis who posts first.
  8. Yo's ERA has skyrocketed to .76 Overrated.
  9. After going 6-1 through his first 14 starts, the Nashville Sounds right-hander lost his third consecutive outing Monday, allowing 11 hits to visiting Round Rock in four innings of an eventual 6-4 defeat. I think many of us correctly predicted a "correction", as he had simply been allowing too many baserunners to continue having such a good ERA. Talk about pitching better in pressure situations all you want, eventually, baserunners equals runs.
  10. Every year I've figured it it's been 98%+. And I'll have to trust you about base runs...if you need a program to do it within 10 minutes, it's too much for me.
  11. Russ, can you explain base runs? And how can it be better and easier than the simple runs created, 98% accurate model?
  12. Yep, woulda been a fine game to attend, to be sure.
  13. Great to see Helling doing well at AAA, like he should. It sure would be nice to be able to slowly work him into the rotation, with the small sample results of Zach and Carlos OK.
  14. I am curious if you always check to ensure that this is my weekend to work.
  15. I'm a bit puzzled, HF, why is "mental case" offensive? Certainly there are words and phrases in our everyday talk that are worse, like "******", "psycho", "crazy as a loon", "nutjob", etc. Idiot used to be a clinical term, now it's as mainstream as any word in the language. Tell me, what term would you use to describe a young pitcher who seemingly has the physical tools but falls apart on a big league mound? A fallaparter? An unable to make the jump due to his noggin person? I worked pizza delivery for years, and often delivered to the "psych ward" at both hospitals in Eau Claire, and had many patients call it the nut house, crazy ward, and so on. I'm a tad bit on the heavy side myself (in the same way that Prince has a tad bit of a great future), and I certainly wouldn't feel bad if people used many words to describe me, because they're true. I guess I just don't see "mental case" as being nasty or mean. HF, if you wish to replay privately, so be it.
  16. I would remove that if it were written about a kid in the minors. If it were a guy who had been to the bigs, I have no problem with it.
  17. Joe, he's a long ways away from the majors. But he throws 95+ and he's healthy...that makes him a true prospect.I'm glad he isn't doing a lot better, as there'd be talk about rushing the kid...like Yo. If you're looking at guys at AAA, stats matter. When you're teaching kids how to throw pitches, and get consistent mechanics, stats don't mean a whole lot. I'll take Rogers over some "winner" that throws 85 anyday.
  18. As Baseball America notes today, Mark Rogers' 12.81 strikeouts per nine innings leads all the minor leagues. So, he's still not a prospect. Since when do K rates predict success? Oh...never mind.
  19. I'm seriously wondering about the amount of time wasted on the "jinx" topic, and lots of it by the staff. Oof.
  20. The 18th and 19th round picks are perfect, potentially top 5 round players who fell.
  21. Mark's last five starts (including one in which he gave up 6ER in 3IP)... 3.00 ERA 1.16 WHIP 11.1 K/9 That's funny, some poster said the other day that he was a better prospect than this Rogers kid that throws 95+. I'm gonna have to rethink this now.
  22. You could be right Toby, but he's 30+ and playing indy ball...I can't believe he'd turn down any affilated deal. He's as blocked as you can be, as well, so I think he would have signed with anyone.
  23. Koonce can hit, but I wonder why he wasn't placed at AA, as Brad has nothing left to prove there. Nelson can't be considered much of a prospect, especially compared to other players on the 40 man, despite the fact he has youth on his side.
