  1. My dog is almost 16, and we think about the inevitable every single day with him. I hope that day is delayed by a decade or so.
  2. I think it is XM Sirius now, the 3rd choice is hardly known.
  3. And some people insists the average fan isn't a casual one. Heck, Todd Rosiak said in today's blog that ARI has a platoon of Jason Kubel/Geraldo Parra in LF. I immediately thought to myself that they both hit LH, so that was insanity, but only geeks like me notice that. Ask people at a game who #42 is whose retired number...hardly anyone knows. I've overheard that conversation several times at MP, and Frank Robinson is always the guess, though no one knows if he played for the Braves or Brewers.
  4. I usually grill steak and have shrimp scampi with it. This year, my son is at his grandparents for NYE, so we'll push that back to New Year's night, as shrimp scampi is his favorite. We're not drinkers, so that part of it bores us.
  5. Several Packers' games were blacked out in Milwaukee because County Stadium did not sell out. It was not just a coincidence the Packers quit playing games there.
  6. I still get e-mails from the Bucks offering me deals, and we haven't been to a game in years. They try hard, no doubt.
  7. Almost everyone gets unemployment, unless your former employer says they will hire you.
  8. Hardly anyone calls previous employers, as they never say anything anyway. I've never worked anywhere that could do anything other than verify employment dates and say they no longer worked there. That's how nurses that steal drugs keep finding work. You usually find out far more if you ask the person what they would say if you called their former employer. Do not be fooled. Check the termination box no and tell folks it was a poor match.
  9. I don't think we'll see Izturis and Green both on the big league 25, barring injury, unless they sign a RH hitting 1B/OF, and not sign Aoki. They'll have a RH bat to protect Gamel.
  10. I think it is 30 days for a "found" item, but 6 months for "willingly abandoned," such as a repair that is never paid for. Back in the pizza delivery days, a garage I delivered to had hashmarks on the wall for a pair of cars, waiting for the time to be up so they could sell them legally.
  11. I'd use it for the season and then donate it to your favorite charity for them to use in their office. I think 30 days is the legal standard for finder's keepers. I recall finding a wallet with $200+ in it at the store and no one called for a couple weeks. No ID, it was a child's birthday/Xmas money. But, this is way longer.
  12. I think Rosiak is incorrect. I think he's confused, as I don't think any bids are opened until it's done.
  13. Gamel has no options, FYI. He'll be in the bigs somewhere this year.
  14. Hart's about 4 runs below average per UZR and DRS. He isn't even close to being a liability, compared to an Adam Dunn or Brad Hawpe types, who made millions in the game. Willingham isn't good enough to play RF, and Cuddyer is far worse, and they each had teams lining up to run them out there. Again, corner OF's don't make their cash playing D, and worrying about a guy slightly below the norm is just being nitpicky.
  15. Nyjer Morgan, versus RHP: 2007/8--.355/.400 2009----.394/.435 2010----.333/.337 2011----.370/.439 Actually, Nyjer has been remarkably consistent, though he had a down year in '10. The Crew was just intelligent enough to minimize his PA's against LHP, who he has never hit. Personally, I assume Doug saw a guy who'd fit in nicely on the bench and looked to be undervalued. I wish an infielder of similar merit became available.
  16. They are said to like Alonso's line drive bat for Petco. Rizzo would play better in a Wrigley type atmosphere. SD might get 2-3 more solid prospects for Rizzo and have reloaded perfectly.
  17. Most people don't realize Hart was one of the top 30 offensive players in the game. He's been overshadowed by Braun and Fielder, many casuals have no idea he'd be the best hitter on 10-12 teams, and a #3/4 hitter on many others. He's been far better than Cuddyer, who was a sought after FA, and far younger. What's funny is, if he were dealt, the public would want a RH middle of the order bat who could hit 25 HR's. They always want what they do not have.
  18. Gindl is several years younger than Green, and Taylor is seen by many as a guy with a platoon/reserve ceiling...if so, being a reserve is certainly not going to stunt his growth. Caleb is not going to waste away on the bench as a 23 year-old unless he is going to pick up 250-300 PA's, and barring injury/suspension, that isn't going to happen.
  19. I said it before it before, but I'll repeat it, it's amazing that so many people put two infielders on the bench with neither having any experience at SS.
  20. The average SS had a .317 OBP last year, Theriot is .329 over the past three seasons. Limited pop, but he's by far the best backup SS on the market now. All the rest are just generic no hit types.
  21. Punto is outstanding defensively, though two years seems like one too many for a utility INF in his 30's.
  22. Lee can find more PA's elsewhere.
  23. Farris has barely ever played SS, and wasn't very good there. He could sneak into the other spot if they want to let Green get 500 PA's, but he won't be the backup SS. Good call on a RH 1B/OF option. Many of the lists do not have a single platoon mate for Mat, and have a lefty backing him up. That seems unlikely.
  24. Pretty high standards for a backup INF who can play SS. Theriot and Punto are the two best left on the market, and while neither is an all-star, utility guys usually have warts. I'd prefer Punto because he can play 2B/SS/3B, while Theriot is basically just a 2B/SS. Of course, maybe the guy they get to platoon with Gamel will be able to play 3B (Casey Blake?), or maybe they'll keep 2 other reserve INF's and Mat's platoon partner will also be a LF/RF, like a Xavier Nady type.
  25. Has not played much SS, so that would be a stretch for him.
