  1. Yep, might add another RP but it will be late, Jan/Feb, probably a minor league contract. Add in guys like Dillard and DLC, they have about 9 options, plus longshots like Scarpetta and Rogers. I mentioned Clay before they acquired Veras, but he doesn't throw all that hard, most likely, for Doug's liking.
  2. Spring competition is pretty much a cliche...Doug has said numerous times March exhibitions don't really play a part in evaluation except for possibly a final utility spot.
  3. Saito is limited to one inning and for the most part can't pitch consecutive days. That said, he did pitch well when healthy, but the Crew probably offered him close to what he signed for, if not more. Some FA's prefer to sign elsewhere.
  4. Pena was the fallback in case Ramirez signed elsewhere. He'll be a solid platoon player next year. He's an OBP machine.
  5. Scott will go somewhere with a chance to start/platoon at LF/RF/DH. Unless he's drawn to MIL because of Braun, he'll seek more playing time. Would be a fine pickup if he wanted to sit.
  6. Lee is not even a thought unless HOU pays 2/3rd's of his salary. If they do, Briggs' suggestion has merit.
  7. I doubt if it is coincidence this came out a few days after Braun's possible suspension. Mat could well be in LF for most of the 50 games, and Pena is outstanding versus RHP. Both would be best with a platoon partner.
  8. There is no local TV in the NFL, so the question is moot. Do they split radio revenue? I'm sure NY gets far more than GB.
  9. Pretty much all minor league infielders have numbers like that in rookie and A ball...the fields suck, and the scoring is worse.
  10. I'm sure the Brewers get so many ads a game as part of their contract...obviously, FSW would be happy to sell pricier ads to anyone who wants to buy. They do not get all of them either, as local cable gets X amount, I believe 25-33% is the norm.
  11. Marcum has said several times he wants to be in the Midwest. Greinke has shown every intention of being a FA. I would certainly not give either one of them a deal for more than 3 years and nowhere near $16M per. There's simply too much risk of injury, and Zach's ailment poses additional issues.
  12. Even if its $30M, that's $120M more per season for the Angels. Even with some revenue sharing, it's not a level playing field, as proven by Hairston and Hawkins $3M deals with LA clubs...that's thrown around like bread crusts out there, while Doug needs to be careful, as $3M here and $3M there adds up to a sizable chunk.
  13. Any kid capable of playing 2B/SS that can get on 35% of the time is worth taking a flyer on, I know very few minor league Rule 5's ever make it (I only know of a couple in the last 20 years), but for $4K, teams should take any player with a single plus skill.
  14. Southwest offers one ways for $59 all the time. May have to drive a while, but that's about as good as it gets.
  15. Capps got $4.25M, after a 4.25 ERA and 1.4 HR/9. Broxton got $4M and just had elbow surgery. The market for relief pitching is rising. Those that think Thornton is overpaid are living in 2002. EDIT: Now reported as $4.75M guaranteed for Capps.
  16. You can find jobs doing some freelance writing, but they do tend to be very low paying. This time of year, many retailers are hiring overnights and may be fine with you only doing a couple nights a week.
  17. Heh. He said the most recognizable names were Zaun, Rivera, and Cruz.
  18. One of my regulars said he got there early and bought a couple polos and several T-shirts for weekend and around the house wear, for himself and his sons. Said XL T-shirts were in short supply, and he would not be shocked if there was not a single one left for the general public, unless they were holding some in back.
  19. Stewart reminds me of Green. We already have Green.
  20. Green does not project as an everyday 3B, as he has not hit LHP and is not known as a strong defender. Plus he still has plenty of options. Some time in AAA, followed by some time backing up 2B/3B, and maybe even some 1B/OF, is fine with me. A year ago, no one thought of Green as anything but a utility guy. He had a very good '11, but let's not get too excited about a guy in his mid 20's having a breakthrough campaign in the PCL. Aramis projects nicely for the next couple seasons, and I do not see Doug going 4. We're probably only talking about 2014 here. EDIT: His career numbers are nearly identical to his last three year stats. No falloff yet, though that's not saying it won't start tomorrow. Also, as I just stated at Ramblings, he is a dead fly ball hitter, 45%. He is well suited to improve by playing in a HR ballpark, like Miller Park.
  21. Any major league SS could play 2B or 3B, though it may take time to adjust to angles, the pivot, etc. They do not require the range (3B) or arm (2B). That's why the average SS can barely hit, it's a very difficult spot to play, even at Yuni's level of 5-12 runs below average.
  22. I assume the injections kill bacteria where the problem is, and keep it away for 3-6 months or so, rather than just the general Amoxicillin. I know you can get a month's worth for $4 at Wal Mart, or online without a scrip for $7-8. I have little doubt the drugs "work," but there are probably a dozen cheaper options, but lacks the profit motive. This rinse kills bad bacteria, and the active ingredient is at 0.12% strength. It's just difficult to get them to say, give me 6 options, some spendy, some not, and let me make up my own mind.
  23. Thanks Menotti. I have more than a couple (5-7 would be my guess), but I have 3-4 fewer than I did before the rinse. I gotta get the work done before 12/31 for insurance, but we've decided this place is very much into selling stuff.
  24. Casey, the $376 is just for the cleaning, they already did the exam. If insurance covers it 100%, it must be in the ballpark. Worm, if you're paying for the fluoride out of pocket, I'd ask for advice on a rinse they would sell or you can buy at a drugstore. Heck, I paid $15 for a bottle of "special mouthwash," and my numbers are better in two weeks, but since my gums still bleed when she picks at them with a sharp metal hook, she thinks the antibiotics are necessary.
  25. Cavities usually do not hurt, unless infected. I can never see anything on an X-ray, I've broke my little toe twice and couldn't even see that.
