  1. Coan will burn his redshirt and be the QB the Pinstripe Bowl. Hornibrook is still dealing with concussion symptoms.
  2. Lyles fits the mold at center better than Erdmann does. 6'6" 340 is a massive center.
  3. I took it to mean that his pitch arsenal wasn't working anymore and he wasn't going to be anything more than random minor league roster filler if he didn't change it hence he worked really hard in the offseason to come up with a cutter to help neutralize right handed hitters. Exactly. He worked really hard to reinvent himself as a pitcher. I'm sure after self scouting, he realized that if he doesn't change what he's doing, his career will be over. Props to him imo, when players reach the top level, they are content with sticking with what got them there. Miley evolved into a better pitcher and will be rewarded for it as a FA.
  4. Exactly my point. And yes, I can compare individual seasons. It's such flawed logic to think a player's ability, and success, is directly attributed to the guy standing in the on-deck circle. So you're saying you won't receive better pitches with the season's MVP in Stanton hitting behind you? I never said a player's ability is attributed to the guy hitting behind him, but he will have better opportunities to succeed.
  5. I honestly think it would be really frustrating. IMO, I think they could throw their money in a better way than this. Not that they have even sniffed this level, but your comment made me think of the Washington Redskins. See the big name FA, throw a ton of money at him, and continue to lose year-in and year-out. With that said, McCutchen is an easy guy to root for, and I hope he lives up to that contract. It will be interesting to see him in a hitter-friendly home ballpark.
  6. I think if you're going to trade for a guy who's still cost controlled, but is has recently struggled, you're looking for a guy who has a high ceiling, but the team that he's currently on can't wait on him to see if he'll reach said ceiling. You take a chance on them because if they put it together, at the trade deadline you have a guy you can then flip. I am just guessing, but I would think when the Marlins look at a small guy like Davies without overpowering stuff, there just isn't much reason for them to want him in return for one of the best catchers in baseball with multiple years of control left. I would place Realmuto's value at this point close to Yelich's value last year. Realmuto is definitely a more valuable asset coming off his last season as compared to Yelich at this point last year, but Yelich had more team control. So I think you'd have to look at a similar type trade. They'd want an elite prospect(Brinson was definitely elite, and not that it's the point right now, but I always thought he'd struggle until he got ~1000 PA's) in the big leagues and then start having some success. But then we also had to give up two other guys who made top 100 lists and a 4th guy who rounded out the trade and was a bit of a lottery ticket. A lefty with pedestrian stuff, but that's on top of a top 15 prospect and two other top 100-ish prospects. I don't see Davies fitting in there without them wanting Hirura or Burnes+a Woodruff/Peralta...and then at that point, you could start to maybe talk about a couple young guys with team control and mixed results in the big leagues like Santana and or Davies. I can't disagree more. Yelich outperformed Realmuto offensively over the 4yrs prior to their trades and also won a GG while Realmuto's DRS is sitting in the hard negative (but he's very good at throwing out runners). Then factor in Yelich being 2yrs younger with 3yrs more control. Yelich's 2017 > Realmuto 2018 and Yelich still posted a 120 OPS+ the year he was traded while playing CF. If Realmuto's value is similar to Yelich that means he'll bring back (1) Top 20, (1) Top 65, (1) Top 100. There's no way that's happening and I will speak in certainties in this regard. I don't think there is much of an argument that Yelich is the better player, but it's hard to compare Yelich's 2017 to Realmuto's 2018. Yelich was protected throughout the year by Stanton, Osuna, Bour, and Realmuto. Realmuto had Castro and Anderson around him, and still had his best offensive year.
  7. It will be interesting to see how they divvy up playing time with Soler and Bonafacio in there as well. I really hope Phillips gets steady playing time for the Royals.
  8. The righty/lefty splits probably won't matter as much at the catcher position though. I would assume certain catchers would be catching certain pitchers.
  9. Kevin O'Connor @KevinOConnorNBA FWIW, today is the last day NBA teams can acquire a player then combine his contract with another contract in a trade before the deadline (February 7). This means that the Bucks could, on February 7, use Hill in a larger trade. They maximize flexibility by making the trade today. 5:14 PM - 7 Dec 2018
  10. My initial thoughts of Horst being named the Bucks GM, so far, has been way off. Keeping Mids, Bledsoe, and Brogden is now possible.
  11. Henson and Delly 1st and 2nd round traded for George Hill. How's that for clearing up salary! Hill has a dead cap of 1 million next year (18 million if the keep him) according to Spotrac. It sucks giving up the picks, but you have to give up assets in order to remove worthless contracts. I personally love this trade because Hill will be great for this team this year. 12. This car accident was a little different that a typical car accident however. A rock was intentionally placed in the road by people that were going to rob them. I can't say I've ever heard that. RIP, crazy world we live in.
  13. Pujols also lost a lot of production due to his chronic foot issue. I'm not willing to say Goldschmidt's poor start to the season is due to regression. He was just in a major funk. Will his number regress, potentially, but I think he has a handful of very productive years left in him.
  14. So...A. Don't choose the wrong one B. I would gladly take a World series title now for some down years 4-5 years from now. C. It's December 7th!!!! Good gravy people, Winter Meetings haven't even happened. There are literally 4 more months of off-season left. Arrieta signed a contract in the middle of March last year.
  15. Man, the winter meetings haven't even happened. How soon we forget that this team acquired Cain and Yelich. Patience is a virtue...
  16. Goldschmidt was an easy player to root for, and now he's a Cardinal. That sucks...
  17. Awesome job as always Reilly. The prospect rankings were how I found this website (was a lurker for many years). Keep up the great work!
  18. Lee Tunnell will be with DJ again as he was hired to be the bullpen manager for the Reds.
  19. With the Braves' addition of Donaldson, I wonder if he could be shopped. I think he would be perfect 2B until Hiura is ready for the bigs. After that, he can take Hernan's spot. Carmago won't be cheap, but I think this is a player the Brewers need to consider.
  20. Same boat as you. Was looking for the right credit card for a while, since my student loan debt has hurt my credit score. I have opened two credit cards (one Kwik Trip) and my credit score is up in the 720+ range in a matter of 6 months. It is really convenient to use, and I can see the dangers of it. The only plus of my student loan debt is acknowledging the true difference between want and need.
  21. Great career, wish he could have ended his career with a competitive team. Watching him bare hand and fling the ball to first base without any effort will be missed. I think he had at least 2 more years of being a productive player, but it's nice to see a star leave with a bit left in the tank.
  22. Doug Melvin would do this.
  23. Yelich received 29 1st place votes and one 2nd place vote. deGrom was the only player other than Yelich to receive a 1st place vote. 1. Yelich 415 2. Baez 250 3. Arenado 203
