  1. Binelas is a local kid, and would fill a corner infielder hole in the system
  2. Exactly. For all we know, Urias and Hiura or Tellez could be on their way to the All Star Game at this time next year, and we'll have the corner infield locked down for the net half decade. Its great to be optimistic but the odds of Hiura or Rowdy ever being all star level is ridiculously low. We should be lucky if either of them is serviceable much less star quality. You are correct. The odds are low. But the fact that odds still exist only reinforces the idea that the Brewers should be drafting the player who they feel is the best available, regardless of position. It is a slippery slope drafting for need when the vast majority of drafted players don't see the majors until 3-4 seasons after they are drafted. Heck, 3 years ago, there were a lot of Brewer fans who figured 1B and 3B would be locked down by Aguilar and Shaw for the next 5-6 years at least.
  3. Exactly. For all we know, Urias and Hiura or Tellez could be on their way to the All Star Game at this time next year, and we'll have the corner infield locked down for the net half decade.
  4. Is that the same Luis Urias who has shown plenty of power to function as a starting corner infielder on a contending team as a 24-year-old? In all seriousness, this is very interesting. The biggest knock on Urias when the Brewers acquired him was a perceived "lack of power". He may never be that prototypical 35 HR guy teams are looking for at 3B, but he's shown 25 HR power, and will hopefully have the .280+ average to match eventually.
  5. Big guy at 6'2". Quite a few places said his future home is likely 3B.
  6. No. That is likely Mitchell's job. But Frelick is the type of player that finds a spot for himself, whether its at 2B or in a corner spot. Frelick strikes me as the type of player who is never a super-duper star, but plays 15 years in the majors and is a key contributor, making a few All-Star games along the way. A team could do much worse.
  7. Not unless the big 3 in the rotation match what they were able to do in the 1st half. That is a tall task, though, that I'd prefer they not have to do if possible. In a perfect world, they find a bat to improve the lineup, and the starting pitching continues to be strong and, more importantly, injury-free. That is asking a lot, though.
  8. I realize that you just like to pick arguments, but that is an absurd interpretation of my point. I don’t think even you believe that teams don’t evolve over the course of the season, and that their composition and how they perform in the last few weeks before the All Star break is more predictive of how they will perform in the second half than how they played in April. Anyone who thinks the Reds haven’t improved significantly, specifically in the pitching department, since the early season has his head in the sand. And the Brewers have seen that improvement. I just don’t think your point has much behind it. The season is a marathon. There will be good and bad stretches. The Brewers just finished off 33 games in 34 days. Does that factor in at all? Of course it does. The Brewers won 4 more games than the Reds to the all star break but you’ll give no credit to the Brewers for doing so. Just that the Reds had a better, not by much, series days before the all star game. Are the Reds better? Maybe? Maybe they will surpass the Brewers before the end of the season. But you state it as though it’s final and it’s definitely not. The Reds have the talent to upend the Brewers. They have for the last several years. It hasn't happened yet. Frankly that is because they are run like crap. For some reason, they traded their closer and top relief pitcher this offseason. And guess what ... their pen is their Achilles Heel. Maybe this'll be the year they put it together. But I'd guess it won't be. They'll eventually implode.
  9. STOP questioning other fans opinions already! Geez... You and others do it constantly. It's ok to question the validity of this team. It's ok to feel less than positive about a team who lays an egg against the Reds, our current nemisis. It's ok to have thoughts that are not like your own. Right now, on this very day, the Reds are better than us. It is obvious. That could change, and hopefully it will, but just stop being the thought police. It's great that you only see unicorns and rainbows, but there are legit concerns about this team moving forward, and the series against the Reds has shed light on a lot of them. Man... This is a first place team today. That's ALL I was saying. Stop trying to put words in my mouth. Question his opinion? I disagree with him. Last I checked, that is allowed. That's it. My response surely DID NOT warrant this sort of response, from you of all people, a poster I greatly respect.
  10. Walked more than he struckout in his college career, if I heard correctly. For a team that strikes out a ton, and had for years, that is a good thing. Not every guy in the lineup needs to swing for the fences every time up.
  11. Brewers just drafted a dynamic outfielder with the best bat-to-ball skills in the draft! A kid that should be a fast riser with a ton of leadership qualities. Things are looking good.
  12. If you can play SS, you can most likely play 3rd (or OF). And if you can play CF, you can play LF or RF Please tell me which of the shortstops in our system has the bat to play third base. Luis Urias.
  13. His scouting report says he's a slap hitter. I don't know how anyone can be excited by this pick. You're reading bad scouting reports. He is in no way a slap hitter. He's reading what he wants to read. It's part of his schtick ... one that is crossing the line to trolling at this point IMO.
  14. It's obviously an organizational philosophy. Simply because ain ill-informed fan doesn't agree with it, it doesn't mean they are going to deviate off that.
  15. You don't like it? Well, knock me over with a feather!
  16. Frelick was mocked in a ton of drafts going #7 to the Royals. Seems like really good value here.
  17. I can, because we aren't the only one. Gotta be huge signability concerns.
  18. Interesting. I didn’t follow Frelick all that closely because I always figured he’d be gone by the Brewers pick. Pro comparison is Andrew Benintendi. Sounds good to me. Tough hard-nosed hitter with developing power who goes all out.
  19. I hope not What's wrong with Madden? By most every account he's a hell of a prospect.
  20. Yes, this team is good enough to make the playoffs. Right now. The pitching is legit. Now, advancing in the playoffs is a different story. But this team, as it stands, is a playoff team. There's no reason, other than pessimism, to believe it isn't. Sure, they've fatten up on some bad teams, but they've generally looked fine against decent to good teams for the most part. Fair enough. I’d feel a lot better if we could somehow improve our 6, 7, and 8 hitters. I realize we can’t do all of them, but improving one would be nice. Agreed. I think they will, too. I don't know how. But I believe this team knows they are a contender, and will make moves to firm up that stance.
  21. One reason for concern is that haven’t really played any decent to good teams except the Reds and Mets since the beginning of June, and they are 2-8 in those games. Correct. Personally my concern isn't high, though. All teams are going to have cold stretches to go with the hot ones. Sucks it was against a team I love to hate, before the All-Star break. Gotta come back ready to rock Friday.
  22. Good post. Frustrating series. Not one I wanted to stew on until Friday. But that's baseball, and there's a lot of season left. It is what it is. Now let's get Wong and Cain back, and hit it closer to full strength next Friday.
