  1. It's a benefit of hindsight argument, but BruisedCrew was right saying this should have been Woodruff's start tonight. Followed by Burnes and Lauer I guess. Houser would match up much better against the Royals. I like Houser, but he doesn't have it tonight, and you can't make too many mistakes against this lineup without it coming back to bite you.
  2. Yeah, that was odd. Bet it's the first time a 28 year old basketball player was taken in the MLB draft. He seems like a guy that you sign to a minors free agent deal. Not that a 20th round pick is a huge gamble, but it was odd.
  3. Gee, why is the Brewers farm system so awful? That seems pretty unfair. Both those guys are upper end prospects with considerable upside and national buzz. They weren't drafted as favors.
  4. If there was any news, I would imagine it would be in this thread.
  5. One of the team's hottest bats before the AS Break. Gotta find a spot for him until he cools off.
  6. That's really saying something in a season where Zack Godley made a couple appearances.
  7. Brewers have now announced that Woodruff is starting on Saturday, and Burnes Sunday.
  8. I'm not concerned about individual matchups either. You just seemed to imply there wasn't a downside to starting Houser over the "big 3" when he's clearly not on their level. I'm not questioning the strategy just pointing out that your optimism was a bit out of control. I do tend to answer pessimism with over-the-top optimism at times. It is definitely one of my faults, and probably defining traits as a poster here. That said, I have a little more confidence in Houser than in Lauer or Anderson to keep the game tonight in check tonight. He is a solid MLB starter. Like you mentioned, though, if the Brewers bats don't show up, it isn't likely to matter a whole lot.
  9. I don't know if throwing a guy with a 3.76 ERA is really a downside, though. Despite his rough-ish start last week against the Reds, Houser has been very good this year for the most part. They theoretically could have pushed Woodruff to tonight on 5-days rest, but that would likely move Burnes and Peralta up as well. This way Peralta doesn't need to see the Reds for the 27th time this year. 3.76 ERA would have felt like the ace on most of the Brewers teams I've watched during my life, however he's pretty clearly not among our best 3, so while a 3.76 ERA isn't terrible it's obviously a downside compared to Woodruff, Burnes or Peralta. After today Houser and Peralta will have both faced the Reds 4 times. I think it's pretty clear that the Brewers are not THAT concerned with specific matchups quite yet. Certainly a strategy that can be argued, but it is what it is. I had an inkling that they'd go with either Houser, Lauer or Anderson on Friday before going with two of their big 3 over the weekend, simply because the lower 3 have had the longest layoff with Burnes getting 2 innings in the AS game.
  10. I don't know if throwing a guy with a 3.76 ERA is really a downside, though. Despite his rough-ish start last week against the Reds, Houser has been very good this year for the most part. 11. Houser makes sense, as he hasn't pitched since the 8th. Hopefully his command his better this time around. I too expect Woodruff on Saturday, and likely Burnes on Sunday.
  12. Does it seem odd to anyone else that the Brewers have a game in less than 10 hours, and they still haven't announced who is starting it, let alone a rotation for the weekend?
  13. They could just free Cooper Hummel... Don't think so. Dude can't even get playing time in Nashville.
  14. Wasn't there. Probably smartt move on his part. I'm sure the last thing he wants to do is upstage the Bucks in the NBA Finals. That said, a Rodgers Game 6 appearance wouldn't surprise me.
  15. Devin Booker with an impressive double-double tonight. 42 points and 10 fouls!
  16. He was great last night! Very proud of him. I felt bad for Burnes, however. I didn't see the last inning. Did Hader pitch in the 9th? Did Navarez hit? I didnt see Hader. Narvaez had one AB that I saw, and he grounded out. Peraltas inning earned him a 99 overall diamond card in MLB the show. Narvaez batted twice. Grounded out and beat out an infield single. Then was thrown out at 2nd trying to get there on a wild pitch that miraculously bounced off the backstop right back to the catcher. One in a million carrom, but he was a dead duck at 2nd. Hader didn't pitch. Burnes got into trouble with a walk and a couple hits in his first inning, but the walk was the only score to come across. He gave up a missile to Vlad Jr. in his 2nd inning of work.
  17. Link report always includes a link to all the day's box scores with updated player averages.
  18. Yeah just used the word bust wasn't really sure what to put instead of bust. Totally get where you are coming from.
  19. I got the sense from Jim Callis on the live stream that Murray doesn't have really one good tool that stands out much? Might be a bit of a head-scratcher pick in this spot? But, who really knows at this stage in the draft. First pick that made me go "Huh?" Murray was a solid college infielder, but seems like an organizational soldier type in the pros. Of course, I am a fan, and not a scout. Hopefully Murray turns out to be the next Kevin Newman.
  20. Shorter pitcher with a mid-90s fastball and ++ change. Seems destined for a pen role. Sort of reminds me of Tyler Thornburg.
  21. Gonna be a complete guess, but I think the Brewers take Isaiah Thomas, an OF from Vanderbilt next.
  22. Can you call a 3rd rounder that doesn't make the majors a bust, though? I can't imagine the batting average of 3rd round picks making the majors and having a significant impact is all that high.
  23. Three rounds later than most thought he would go too. He had a ton of Top 10 buzz coming into the 2021 season, but he started slow at the plate, and didn't play as much 3B as anticipated. Also has a lot of swing-and-miss to his game. But that power is legit. Hell, if he ends up being a 1B, fine with me.
