  1. Well ... he's almost guaranteed to be better in his next opportunity.
  2. Heck, we've seen worse in the Brewer pen this year. Lindblom was terrible before going on the IL.
  3. If we could send JBJ to Nashville I'd be all for that. Hiura's secondary stats area abysmal. He's near the bottom or is the worst hitter in MLB at contact on pitches in the strike zone. He isn't juast unlucky he is bad. Needs to get his K% down. All fair, it just feels like people focus in on him in particular like he is Yuniesky Betancourt somehow sent back in time and playing on the 1927 Yankees. If/when Hiura gets sent down, the presumptive replacement as the everyday 1B was hitting .173/.259/.308/.567 coming into today's game. I think most everyone advocating for sending Hiura down is doing so with the understanding that it would be a temporary gig, until he finds his swing and his plate discipline. Maybe it would only take a few weeks, maybe the rest of the year? Who knows. I think what frustrates fans the most about him is that he has shown that he can be so much better than this.
  4. I think it is certainly due to expectations. At least with a guy like Bradley Jr., he brings a reputation as a plus defender. Hiura is a terrible defender anywhere you put him. If his bat is terrible as well, it is very difficult to find a valuable baseball player. He is young, and he certainly has the ability to turn it around. But after coming up in 2019 and looking like a future superstar, and the way he hit in the minors on his way up, I assumed we had the next offensive force at our fingertips. But after his hot start in 2020 for about the first 20 games, he has been downright terrible.
  5. That is good. I'm patiently waiting for the Cardinals to cool down. That would make me happy.
  6. Yep, and he'll be out fishing the next day. I live roughly a mile from his place in the Northwoods. When they say "cabin", it is underselling it. He lives in a $3 million, 5,000-square-foot home on a lake up here. Beautiful spot ... perfect quiet spot for an outdoorsy guy with a young family. I'm sure he decided to give it one more go to say that he pitched for his hometown team, but if he gets DFA'd, he'll likely be more than happy to hang it up.
  7. you didn't predict the corresponding roster move, but assuming that it's optioning bettinger, he would have to remain on optional assignment for 10 days . . . and there would be no other pitcher on the 40-man eligible for recall. the brewers still have seven more games to play before a day off . . . so someone needs to take burnes' spot again friday. if not bettinger, who? Zimmermann, Weigel, or a bullpen day (Suter, Rasmussen et. al.) Gonna be a bunch of moves this week with Cain and Yelich coming off the IL.
  8. I'm not going to say he didn't come up big tonight, but he's a -.3 WAR player for the year (before today). He's got RBI's because he hits 4th or 5th and has a ton of RBI opportunities. He hasn't been "good" so much as he's been opportunistic. His WAR took a slide during one of those terrible stretches I alluded to. The season is still young, and the kind of slump he was in can really bottom numbers like WAR out.
  9. Travis Shaw is going to have stretches where he looks terrible. But he is a good ball player overall. Gotta live with the bad for moments like this.
  10. Ah yes, the clearly unbiased fans saw it lol. Calls that were much more obvious than that have stood, so I'm not sure why you guys are surprised. It was close from hand to base to the tag and they couldn't for sure say with 100% certainty that some part of his glove didn't touch some part of his jersey before he touched the base, so it stood. Even the most biased fans have eyes that work. That's all you needed to see that was a terrible call.
  11. It was obvious he was safe. Literally everyone in the stadium saw it plain as day on the video board, watching the same replays the umps in New York have.
  12. Dodgers 1-1 @Phillies 2-2 @Marlins 1-2 (scrappy team tough to figure out) Cardinals 2-1 Braves 2-1 @Royals 2-0 @Reds 2-1 Padres 2-2 @Nationals 2-1 Tigers 1-0 17-11 With Yelich and Cain back shortly, the offense starts to pull its weight.
  13. I don't see how even the most cynical of Brewer fans cannot feel optimistic about this team right now. This team has been a lot of fun to follow so far. Such a night-and-day difference from the Pandemic Brewers.
  14. Amari Rodgers is a really fun pick. Lots of Randall Cobb in his game. Also a punt returner in college.
  15. They showed him on the bench taking off his own gear, so it wasn't anything debilitating. But having a catcher with hamstring issues certainly isn't ideal. I suspect he'll probably go on the IL, and Mario Feliciano will soon make his ML debut.
  16. Two picks, two probable starters at key positions. Can't get too upset about that. Stokes and Myers will be first teamers from day #1 of camp. I am typically not a huge fan of drafting for immediate need, but the Packers have taken two very good players here who should provide impact both short and long-term. If they are going for more need, DT or ILB would make sense in the 3rd round.
  17. I don't think it has been at all. As far as the commitment...I would guess he'd say when you trade up for a QB in the 1st round, you don't feel all that committed. It is certainly possible for a team to be committed to success both in the present and in the future, though. This doesn't have to be an either/or situation.
  18. Defense ... in particular perimeter defense ... was the reason they didn't make the Super Bowl last year. They improved there tonight. Stokes is a player who will play a lot, and likely start. It pushes King to #3 CB, and Sullivan to your dime CB. This team is better after tonight. That wasn't necessarily true after night 1 of the 2020 draft. So to me, it's really hard to find fault with the Stokes pick. Somewhat of a need pick, but there really wasn't a surefire dropper that was a "best player available" lock. Stokes wasn't a reach, but he really wasn't a faller either. He went pretty much exactly where he was slated to go.
  19. Whaa? Can you explain why you like "the CB from Florida State" more than the CB from the SEC who actually covered the 4 WR'ers who went in the 1st round? And why this would make you done with this team? Now I understand not liking the Jordan Love pick. Fine. But in THIS case, they drafted the position you wanted, but not the guy who's got the more familiar name? I'm just FSU alum. Familiar name not relevant. Again, didn't have a first round grade from anybody. Move up in the 2nd and take them both? Just tired of these overreaches year in and year out for interior DL and secondary help, while the LBs and other positions of importance get shat upon. Not being able to keep AR happy, it's just embarrassing and exhausting....might take a 10 year break from football. #Kneejerk I liked Samuel as well, but Stokes and Samuel were pretty much neck and neck ratings-wise by most draftniks. Stokes is probably a better athlete. Definitely faster and more prototypical size. Samuel may be a bit more polished. Either one would have an understandable and acceptable pick at that spot.
