  1. It was just different times. Barely any team plays a base 4-3 anymore. Most teams are in sub packages all the time, with stand-up edge rushers. I don't know if there is any edge rusher who regularly puts his hand on the ground. Za'Darius at times I suppose. If Reggie played in today's NFL, he'd likely be a 3-technique DL in the JJ Watt mold.
  2. Hear ya. Imagine how frustrated this board would be had they not signed Wong? I get that the team probably lost quite a bit of money last year, but yeesh. The Central is there for the taking. Would have been nice to see the team be a little more active.
  3. So much for that... Can't believe the Brewers wouldn't match that offer. Agreed. Terrible optics, especially with all the lefty power in the central with Votto, Moose, Winker, Arenado, Rizzo and Pederson. Having at least one proven lefty in that rotation would have been ideal.
  4. Drew Smyly got $2.5 million more than James Paxton. Baseball free agency is weird.
  5. Don't sleep on the ghost of Jordan Zimmermann. It'll haunt you!
  6. As much as I kinda don't like the guy, Cole Hamels is still floating around out there. Maybe he would finally see Brewers/Cubs as a rivalry if he were on the other side LOL?
  7. I think they still unearth a left-hitting 3B somewhere to share time with one or both of those guys. Really doubt they hand the full time 3B job to one of them, and it makes no sense to platoon two righty hitters. Zack Green is a righty hitter too.
  8. DAMN IT! 1 year, $8.5 million. I sure as heck hope he really wanted to pitch in Seattle, because if the Brewers weren't offering someone with his kind of talent more than that, shame on them.
  9. You're right. It is not. Who knows? Maybe they'll pull off some crazy trade. Or find the 3B version of Steve Nebraska playing in some pickup league in South America LOL
  10. James Paxton to the Mariners. Free agents dropping like flies now.
  11. Agreed. Gyorko isn't a world beater, and even though he was very good last year, he'd still be a risk to throw out there every day. But at least he's an actual big league 3B with some results. That beats going with a unknown or a shot-in-the-dark. Robertson and urias have a prospect pedigree, but haven't proven anything yet. Plus they are both right-handed hitters, so you can't really platoon them. Not much left for lefty-hitting 3Bs. Jake Lamb and Travis Shaw are about it.
  12. Back to Turner, it's a bummer, but something I always expected. Figured the Brewers were being used as a pawn, and it appears they were. But at $17 million a year over two years, that is really steep. Granted ... not my money, but dang, that is much richer than I anticipated. I figured 2 years for around $26-28 million max.
  13. Depends on how you look at it. I view realism and pessimism as too different things. That's fair. Viewpoints are objective
  14. So you said ... a few minutes ago! Too bad difference of opinion is not allowed according to you. Not everyone can carry the water for the franchise as you do regardless of what moves this team makes. Wasn't carrying any water. Was questioning the ultra repetitive nature of all your posts.
  15. I guess "realist" and "pessimist" are synonymous when you're a Brewer fan, huh? I am bummed too
  16. What's Gyorko going to command? $4 million tops? Would he be 1/4th the value of Turner? $34 million for two years for Justin Turner sounds crazy.
  17. Honestly, a trade out of nowhere for a 3B wouldn't surprise me now.
  18. So you said ... a few minutes ago!
  19. This was expected. Let's go grab Lamb or Shaw, or sign Gyorko, and use the extra money they would have used on Turner to grab one of the better starters left on the market.
  20. Turner just announced on Twitter that he has re-signed with the Dodgers.
  21. This was exactly my point. Thank you for making it much better than I did. The closest current comparison to White's ability level is Aaron Donald.
  22. I think it's fair to discuss contingencies should the likely outcome see fruition. I suppose it might be a good idea to start a "3B Plans" topic in the Major League forum, since it appears that we'll have a grab bag of options should Turner decide to stay in LA.
  23. I think if you’re seeing this line out of him, he better be our shortstop. But I agree that this would be a welcomed sight and a line that would make that trade worth it. I simply don't think it's imperative to have a 3B that hits 30+ HRs to be a successful ballclub. I personally think Arcia can hit 15-20 HRs too. If we have a left side of the infield that provides 35 HRs and solid defense, how is that any different from a team that employs someone like Moose and his 30 HRs and Alcides Escobar, who gives you 5? Power is important, but I don't think it necessarily needs to be tied to particular positions.
  24. I don't think Urias will ever be a major power threat, but if he can hit near .300 with 10-15 HRs and Gold Glove-level defense at 3B, I'd take it.
  25. That's my point. White basically played the same position that Donald does today. I guess I should have clarified and said "down lineman" instead of "interior lineman", but in my mind those two terms are synonymous.
