  1. The Ravens are the NFL's philosophical kings of the "bites at the apple" approach. Case in point - they by far lead the league in the number of compensation draft picks rewarded through the loss of free agents the last 20 years. It wouldn't really surprise me at all if they felt that they have reached their ceiling with Jackson as the starting QB, and would take picks and start over at the position, rather than hand Jackson a cap-crippling contract.
  2. I think the Packers have a set value on Rodgers, and they aren't willing to budge. As is their right. The Packers have both their chosen 2023 QB in Love, and a valuable commodity in Rodgers. I believe that the contract is SO bad because the Packers had to give in to Rodgers for him to agree to a multi-year deal instead of just going year-to-year and becoming a free agent. I think it was always the intention to deal him this offseason (actually I think there were people in the building that wanted to deal him LAST offseason, but Murphy stepped in and stopped it). I think it is obvious by this point that the Packers and Jets both know what the Packers are asking for in a trade. The Jets are simply dragging their feet, because they are concerned about the optics of "winning" the trade. From what I've heard of Joe Douglas, he's is kind of egotistical douche, so it makes perfect sense that he's trying to strongarm Gute. But the Packers hold more cards here. Yes, 2023 draft compensation would be nice, but if the Jets continue to drag their feet, the Packers can continue to let Rodgers sit until the end of August. And who knows what other interest might surface by then? All I know is that the Jets fanbase is getting antsy (after thinking for weeks they were getting Rodgers for the same package they got Favre for), and as a Packer fan, it's pretty exciting.
  3. It's WAY early, and the sample is extremely small, but if Anderson maintains this sort of production, he'd be a no-brainer qualifying offer candidate.
  4. Depends on how Winker and Voit are faring at the MLB level. Even still, it's going to come down to more than just numbers for Keston. He needs to revamp his approach if he wants to make an MLB impact. Because if his K rate continues to hover at 40%, he's destined to be a AAAA type.
  5. I don't think Counsell would have given him game #3 of the season if he didn't believe those same things.
  6. You are obviously a baseball guy, but I believe you are missing the mark here. Lauer his looked like a dumpster fire every Spring Training for the Brewers, but other than his first season with them in 2020, he's been very good. Two years of solid regular season results negates crappy Spraint Training numbers.
  7. 3B WHOAHS SOLVD???
  8. MVP: Christian Yelich - we won't quite see the 2018-19 version of Yelich, but the 2023 version will be much improved. 25-30 HRs, 30 SB, .280-.300 BA, and an OPS approaching .900. CY Young: Eric Lauer - I've always been bullish on the guy. This is the year that Lauer makes the jump to a top-flight MLB starter. Rookie of the Year: Joey Wiemer. He is going to mash in Nashville, and won't be down for long. Will be the regular RF once up, and isn't going to give that role back for awhile. BA Leader: Luis Urias (.310). Shot in the dark, and maybe overly optimistic, but I've always liked him too. HR Leader: Jesse Winker (40) ERA Leader: Eric Lauer (2.24) SO Leader: Corbin Burnes (230) WAR Leader: Yelich (5.9) Breakout(s): Luis Urias, Eric Lauer, Wiemer, Gus Varland Disappointment(s): Garrett Mitchell is going to be electric when in the lineup, but he's going to struggle to stay healthy. Brian Anderson is replacement level, and also struggles with injuries. Bold Prediction (s): The Brewers make a big swing at the deadline, acquiring a resurgent Anthony Rendon from the Angels to shore up 3B. Record: 92-70 Playoffs? Yes, win the NL Central easily. Rest of the division is going to suck, as the Cardinals come back down to earth after overachieving last year, and the Cubs and Reds and Pirates scrape the bottom of the NL barrell. Brewers make it to the World Series. Not going any further than that.
  9. There has been an adjustment league-wide. Teams are trending toward being strikeout-adverse again. Hiura's astronomical K rate, when combined with his lack of any defensive value, means that even bad teams can't afford to pencil him in as their primary DH.
  10. I guess we shouldn't really be surprised. The league has figured him out, and he hasn't adjusted. I am fully expecting him to hit .350 with a bunch of HRs in Nashville. Who knows ... maybe that will get some team to bite on a minor trade?
  11. He's had three seasons of chances to improve, and had he shown even the slightest growth as a player, he'd still be a Brewer. Sometimes, regardless of the hype, it just doesn't work out. He'll sign somewhere and continue to run into a HR here and there, but he's never going to be the "hit to all fields" professional that he was hyped as, unless he decides to go back and find the skill set that got him drafted high. Unfortunately it has become obvious that isn't going to happen with the Brewers.
  12. I'm not even sure this should be in blue. Dude always says he doesn't follow the media stuff, but I guarantee he is Googling himself every day in an effort to find even the slightest slight to motivate himself He's just spun a little (OK a lot) different.
  13. Mid 1st round picks are traded for players all the time. I don't understand how asking for the Jets #1 is such an enormous ask. Jets fans are treating that pick like it's Walter Payton's incarnate, though.
  14. What a dumpster fire this is turning into. Just trade him for anything at this point. Be done. This is turning into a he said/he said thing. I'm personally more inclined to believe Gute than I am Rodgers at this point. Rodgers is great at creating drama and skirting blame, though, so I'm sure he'll do that again in short order. His whole introductory presser with the Jets is going to be bashing the Packers organization. Just watch ...
  15. While this wouldn't surprise me, the thought of it is kind of disgusting. I'm kinda hoping that team implodes, but I doubt it will. The only real issue I see for them is uncertainty in their rotation ... but they always kind of seem to be able to pull solid starting pitchers out of thin air, or convince some terribly-run teams to give them a few basically for free. That said, A LOT went right for the Cardinals to do what they did last year. The luck always runs out eventually.
  16. I don't think there is any chance that things have progressed to this point without there being negotiations between the Jets and Packers. THis has been going on for weeks now, and the Jets put the full-court press on Rodgers. I think that there was already a trade agreed to previously, but now it is likely that the Jets are making an attempt to lessen the compensation going back to the Packers, or are asking the Packers to take on more of Rodgers' salary. If they are only offering the Favre package, I'd tell them to pound sand.
  17. The Packers were backed into a corner in 2008 with Favre, and had to get him out of there, so they ended up taking pennies on the dollar in regard to his value. That most assuredly is not the case now. What Rodgers came out and said today was nearly a best case scenario. About the only way it could have gone better for them was if he made it his intention to play at least two more seasons.
  18. That's inaccurate. Yes, he wants to play for the Jets. But the Packers certainly don't HAVE to trade him. He's already on the books. The Packers can sit on his contract until the Jets meet their asking price. And you can bet that the Jets fanbase is going to go crazy if this drags out. Part of me thinks the Packers and Jets already have agreed to the basics of a deal, and now the Jets are reneging. That isn't going to end well for them.
  19. What is interesting to me, now, is that we're finally going to see Lafleur's full offensive vision, and not the hybrid version that Rodgers has run the last few years. I both appreciate everything that Aaron Rodgers brought to this franchise over the years, and am excited by the prospect of what's to come.
  20. They'll likely sign someone like Marcus Mariota. Similar playing style to Love, and already familiar with Lafleur and his offense.
  21. Packers ended up getting a 3rd, but it was a conditional pick that could have gone all the way to a 1st had Favre led the Jets deep into the playoffs. Also, that trade was orchestrated in August after training camp had already begun. The Packers were backed into a corner. There's a little more wiggle room now.
  22. LOL entitled fanbase is entitled. Now there is scuttlebutt that the holdup is that the Packers are demanding multiple 1st rounders. I predict that they'll get a 2nd this year, and a conditional pick next year based on if Rodgers plays in 2024, and how well he/the Jets do.
