Hiura had a few hot stretches that propped up his OPS. Otherwise he was a dumpster fire. -
I think that the Brewers likely found Hiura's 42% K rate inexcusable as well.

Whether you think it was reasonable or not, they paid McCutcheon to be the DH last year. Hard to blame them for continuing to seek a return on that investment. Honestly, as a fan, Hiura ABs are pretty infuriating to watch. It wouldn't surprise me if the team's management and front office had a similar opinion, which would explain the sporadic playing time.

Sorry, a right-handed hitter that cannot play defense and looks like a pitcher hitting against lefties is not going to find a role in most MLB teams lineups. This wasn't a Counsell problem or a front office problem. It was a case of a player who has simply not grown and evolved as a player.

I don't think he has a role on the team. I doubt he makes it to Spring Training as a Brewer.

Back to Miller .... pretty cool story to see a local kid have a chance to make a mark with the Brewers. Miller was once a pretty well thought-of prospect as well. He'll be an interesting story to watch in Spring Training.

I don't understand how someone can log into a site called Brewer Fanatic, make multiple posts that literally suck the joy out of the room, then get upset when other posters disagree with their opinions. Also, they seem to be assuming that the 2023 team is completely built. On Dec. 15. And that spending big money on big names in free agency is the only way to improve a team.

They have plenty of guys who can play 3B. I'd say if they go that direction, it's more a luxury at this point. Tellez and Adames are about as set as you're going to get at 1B and SS. Urias will likely be starting somewhere, whether its at 2B or 3B. They need to decide whether a bat like Brian Anderson or Justin Turner is a big enough upgrade over Toro/Turang/Brosseau to justify the cost.

They also struggle ranking relievers IMO. Hader with 1 1/2 years of club control remaining only worth 15.5? The site is a fun thing to look at, but people treat it as an "end all, be all" when it comes to player valuations, and it has proven to be far from that.

Oh I don't deny that by all appearances, the Brewers did very well here. I just don't think its the valuation curb-stomping that the BTV site makes it out to be.

The trade values site REALLY struggles assigning values to young prospects that haven't yet made a significant contribution in the majors. Having a value on Ruiz of roughly 4 is a joke, especially after the breakout he had and the fact he was traded as a major piece for the top relief arm in the game a few months ago. Yes, perhaps the Athletics had an uncharacteristic high value on him, but obviously so did the Brewers. And those are two teams who are generally well run and are pretty spot on with player evaluations much of the time. I get the feeling that opinions here are skewed on Ruiz because of the Hader trade fallout. People want to think that the Brewers were fleeced in that deal because they need justification for their anger. But in reality, Ruiz obviously holds a high value, and the Brewers likely did pretty well in that deal, picking up what now looks like two very high-end prospects in Ruiz and Gasser.

It gets better. Contreras absolutely DESTROYS lefty pitching.

Contreras is going to be a work in progress defensively. But so was Narvaez, and he turned out to be perfectly fine back there.

Big time egg on the face of the BTV site on this one. Huge swing and a miss on Ruiz's value especially.

Just wait a little while ... they'll jack up Ruiz's value shortly.

If this is the deal, it is safe to say that A LOT of people have not put the right kind of value on Ruiz. Including many here. Definitely makes the Hader trade look better in retrospect.

Or a lot of people are underestimating Ruiz's value. But yeah, Brewers have to be giving up more.

Payamps is a solid MLB reliever, and Yeager looks like a solid minor league relief arm
