  1. I've kept my mouth shut about the tons of articles cluttering up the forum. But this one in particular is nonsense. We have reached the point of TOO MANY ARTICLES. This is just bad.
  2. The 1992 Brewers were full of quality veteran bats like Yount, Molitor, Gumby, Hamilton, Surhoff, Scotty Fletcher and Kevin Seitzer, but this young nondescript prospect came out of nowhere to take over for an injured Bill Spiers at SS, and proceeded to hit .290 and steal 54 bags on his way to Rookie of the Year honors. 12-year-old me loved me some Pat Listach.
  3. Agreed. Precisely 0 people called Chafin the crown jewel of the team's deadline moves in the trade thread. The facts said that he had been a veteran MLB relief arm who had been an above average if not elite non-closing RP for a long time. He didn't have those kind of numbers this year. The Brewers obviously hoped he'd be able to right the ship. It obviously hasn't worked out. The return on the deal, Strez, has pitched 1 1/3 innings total for the DBacks.
  4. Right. 2nd veteran lefty to take the load off of Milner. Not sure where this "crown jewel" talk comes from, other than as a somewhat backhanded opportunity to take a swipe at the team's deadline moves. And with the way Santana and Canha have performed, that argument is pretty off-the-mark IMO.
  5. Oh I love me some Gumby. He was the quintessential 2B during my formative years as a Brewer fan. I just dig random Brewers as well.
  6. Gumby is too easy for #17. So Steve Bowling it is: Or Bobby Mitchell ...
  7. As we saw against the Pirates, there is legit concern with any matchup right now. On paper, the Brewers are the better team and "should" win this game. But they gotta show up.
  8. Severino's ERA of nearly 7 is causing that much anxiety? Rea certainly isn't a world-beater, but he's kept the team in games for the most part.
  9. So you are ready to hand the division to the Cubs, despite a 3 game lead with 25 to play? The Brewers had a huge hot streak that ended roughly a week ago. The Cubs are essentially on a heater right now. It's the ebb and flow of late-season baseball. The Brewers would probably have to go ice cold to not at least be neck-and-neck with the Cubs going into the final week.
  10. I always thought that Jerry Reuss looked like that kindly great uncle that would slip you $10 to go buy candy after your parents warned him not to.
  11. They never filled the spot opened by DFA'ing Souza.
  12. Boy if Adames can finally find some consistency as we head into the final stretch of the season, watch out.
  13. Yeah, good points. I admit to not following the Cubs too closely up until a few weeks ago. Money definitely helped speed up the rebuild.
  14. He was past his prime, but watching this guy play for the Brewers, even if it was for only one season, was pretty cool.
  15. The fact that the Cubs have been able to rebuild so quickly into a contender makes me a little mad. I mean, money helps obviously, but anyone could have signed Bellinger for the contract he got. Stroman was the only real huge contract they had this offseason, and he's been hurt. They are basically doing this with spare parts, reclamation projects, and both veterans and young nobody-types who are having career years.
  16. You are all forgetting about the best #23 in Brewers history ...
  17. Grichuk went unclaimed. Color me surprised.
  18. He probably would have taken Taylor's spot. Maybe Weimer's. They must really value Weimer's defense.
  19. I'd much rather see Black or Gasser than Josh Donaldson.
  20. Grichuk seems like a Brewers-type move. Solid OF defender at all 3 positions. Decent power. Destroys lefties, which is one of this team's biggest weaknesses.
  21. Apparently those guys can continue to play while on waivers.
  22. Yes, as long as they are on the 40-man roster before Sept. 1.
  23. Looks like Emanuel Wilson has made it ... at least for now. #3 HB is a pretty tenuous spot.
