  1. LOL no. They paid the tip top of market value. Far from a steal.
  2. Exactly. The defeatist attitudes are out in full force, but they are totally unwarranted. Nothing in Stearns' history with this team suggests that he's going to spend the rest of the offseason sitting on his hands or signing the likes of Logan Forsythe and handing them major roles.
  3. Yeah ... because someone like jed Hoyer says so, it must be true. Uhh ... no. You REALLY need to let things play out.
  4. Vaunted Viking defense looks like trash tonight. Nice to see the return of Prime Time Cousins too. I hope to see that guy again Dec. 23.
  5. That Cook one didn't look great. He's the straw that stirs their drink on offense. Mattison is a fine backup, but they have driven Cook into the ground this year. It was only a matter of time before he got dinged.
  6. Oh yes, because using WAR with relief pitchers is a tried and true way to determine player value.
  7. I'd be all in on Castellanos. Obviously not for the 3B vacancy, but I think he'd be fine in RF or at 1B. Would provide a young, solid RH bat to the lineup. I'm not an Ozuna fan. I don't know what it is about him, but I've never liked the guy. There is probably not a real good basis for that.
  8. Come on Briggs ... of all people, you know better. It is Dec. 2.
  9. A roster that I was told repeatedly last year was terrible. It pretty much every IGT. A roster that had an obituary written for it on this site. in August. A roster that squeaked into the playoffs on the back of an otherworldly hot streak. I'm kinda interested to see in what direction our GM goes with this.
  10. Do me a favor. Go look at how many free agents have signed deals already. Then take a look at how many free agents there actually are. The biggest names didn't sign last season until very late in the process, and none of the big names, other than Grandal, have signed this season. If they are sitting on their hands into February, then complain. Complaining now is kinda crazy.
  11. That's kinda my whole point. It's Dec. 2. The season doesn't start tomorrow. Yes, no one knows what the plan is. It can be educationally inferred, though, that they aren't going to sit on their hands, or sign a bum like Logan Forsythe to be their starting 1B.
  12. Wow, you are piling up the hot takes tonight. Absolutely none of this is correct. Or even coherent.
  13. This particular poster definitely has a specific bag of tricks that he draws from.
  14. Step away from the keyboard... LOl what else do you expect him to say?? he's not going to come out and fully admit they are cutting payroll...they can just not sign FA's and give the standard "we tried"(like they did with Grandal line) and some of you incredibly guillable, DS slobbering fans would believe it. I don't get it. Were you all Ted Thompson fans too?? Where did his being frugal leave the franchise?? Besides what does DS define as being "competitive"?? Competing for a playoff berth, world series, just not being terrible?? Your takes were terrible at the trade deadline, and you turned out to be 100% wrong then. Yet here you are again, floating this kind of utter crap out there. Grow up.
  15. I give Stearns credit for that. He's not one to stick by a guy he acquired and missed on. It's all about value.
  16. What's funny is that the #1 guy on the team's organizational depth chart at 3B (Erceg) at this moment might get taken next week in the Rule 5 draft. Unless Matthias is a 3B I suppose.
  17. Uh yeah .... I know you personally want to believe this, but Nightengale is a horrible source. Finding a bum to support your thoughts is not evidence. Hey, actions speak louder than words...until DS starts proving this not to be the case, I think it's fair to draw that conclusion, isn't it?? All the players have left, and so far, only minimal coming in and sitting on boatloads of $$ they just freed up. Seriously ... how many times has it actually been pointed out to you today that it is December 2! It's like you refuse to acknowledge that, and believe that the season starts next week.
  18. Uh yeah .... I know you personally want to believe this, but Nightengale is a horrible source. Finding a bum to support your thoughts is not evidence.
  19. Given the fact that Rosenthal's source was Stearns himself, I'm led to believe that Stearns used to Rosenthal to get the word out and start the bidding. Much like Stearns' public admonishing of Arcia was out of character and had me believing a replacement was coming, I'm now expecting a Hader trade this offseason. There's reason to believe we've already gotten the best of Hader when factoring in salary and effectiveness. And with free agency looking costlier by the day, Hader is the most likely movable piece than can fill some big holes. Did Rosenthal say that Stearns said that? I missed it.
  20. Here we go. You may want to follow one of the top 8markets in baseball. Not one in the bottom 5. The Bucks are a small market...they spent a crap ton of cash in the off season...the Packers are a small market...they spent a crap ton of $$ in the off season. That's a crutch that owners of "small market" teams lean on and fans buy into sadly. You are only a "small market" if you act like a small market. Both the NBA and NFL have salary caps. Comparing the financial structure of MLB to them is like comparing apples to ... well ... raisins.
  21. There, fixed it for you. Anyone who think that the Brewers are being cheap by deciding not to hand Mike Moustakas $64 million is probably wrong.
  22. Actually ... we had Shaw at 3B and Pina at C last offseason as well, and both were considered quality major leaguers. No one really expected top-end 3B and C signings last year. They came out of the blue ... and moving Moose to 2B was even more out of the blue. This team is always thinking. I have the feeling we are going to see some pretty big ... and pretty interesting moves in the next couple months.
  23. IT IS DECEMBER 2ND I think everyone here is a little leery of how things have gone so far in the offseason. At the same time, most of us realize that this team is run by smart people who have a plan and a lot of contingencies. Go take this kind of reactionary stuff over to Twitter.
  24. I would say that the percentage that Moose plays out this whole contact as a member of the Reds is less than 25%. This strikes me as a kind of contract they'll be looking to offload on a team like the Dodgers by 2022 by packaging him with a high-end prospect for a bag of balls.
