  1. Should also be noted that Castillo is also eligible for the Rule 5 draft. It wouldn't be the first time a recently signed minor league FA was taken in the Rule 5.
  2. I think it needs to be noted that it is Nov. 24. There is a WHOLE LOT of offseason left. If we get to February and are looking at a similar roster, then it is time to worry. Not now.
  3. It literally and figuratively is one game. On to New York. If you chose to have no hope for this team the next 5 weeks, that is certainly your right. Personally, I'm going to enjoy watching a team march toward the playoffs after not being there the last two seasons. If I have made one huge mistake, it's expecting some sort of big "signature win" out of this team. A game where they look great on offense and defense and get a blowout against a lesser team, or a tough, hard fought crisp game against the tough opponent. Perhaps that isn't what this team is, though. The next 5 weeks don't concern me. I think this team is well equipped to win 4 out of the last 5 games or so against inferior opponents and then not do much after that against playoff opponents. I'm not calling you out personally here, because a lot of people share this line of thinking, but it's really astounding to me how expectations for the Brewers and the Packers differ so greatly. As a Brewer fan, we typically are very happy to even be in playoff contention. That isn't enough for Packer fans, though. For a lot of them, any season that doesn't end in a Super Bowl championship is a failure. I saw this a few days ago, and thought it was appropriate. "A nearly 30-year run of competence has transformed Title Town into Entitled Town."
  4. Perhaps they are. But I'd rather have a paper tiger that is playing meaningful games in December than just playing out the string. I think a little perspective goes a long way tonight. Do I want this team to be a Super Bowl contender? Heck yeah! Do I realistically believe they are? Probably not, and it's because most of the reasons you listed above. But they are in playoff contention, and to do that with a rookie head coach is an accomplishment. It might be time to temper expectations and hope for a few surprises along the way.

  6. Terrible, uninspired crap sandwich of a game. That can't be argued. but it's not the end of their season, either.
  7. First sentence I agree with. I would add "tonight" to the end of the second sentence, though. The Packers did not come to play tonight. I don't believe the 49ers are leaps and bounds better overall, though. I don't know what more you need to see. It's not all that the Packers sucked. The 49ers deserve credit for being in Rodgers' lap all night and completely shutting us down. They've had two weeks to prepare for tonight. Two weeks. They had their "did not come to play" night against the Chargers just a few weeks ago. If they were out all night partying in California again then they clearly do not take their craft seriously enough to have any sustained success anyway. That aside, I don't know how anyone could witness this game and claim the gap between the two teams is not significant. Because I literally witnessed this 49er team have to scrape and claw to pull out a win against a terrible Cardinals team last week. They are certainly not infallible. Not even close. The Packers are just terrible tonight.
  8. Possible yes. Likely. No. Even if you are chalking up the Vikings game as a loss, this is a team that should be 12-4. Nothing to sneeze at, considering the expectations weren't exactly terrific to begin with.

  10. Yep ... this is a full on shellacking. I hope LaFleur enjoyed his family reunion this weekend.
  11. the difference in explosion between these two defenses is stark.
  12. Is it not his call? Sometimes I wonder.
  13. I'd probably sit Rodgers for Boyle next drive. Rodgers is proud to a fault. Doubt we see Boyle unless the Niners score again here.
  14. I think they're just playing out the fiddle at this point. They're not scoring 31 points today. With the way this offense is playing, they might not score 31 in 8 quarters.
  15. I was so high on MVS coming into the season. But he hasn't matured really at all as a receiver. He's fast, but nothing else has gotten better. He's going to have to do something quick to not get on the Jeff Janis career path.
  16. You'd think down 22 there would be a little more urgency to the offense.
  17. For how great he drafting his first 5-6 years, he really was not good at all the last 6. That will happen when you've got dimentia. I don't say that to insult Ted. More incredulous that Mark Murphy took so long to do something about what was right in front of his face. I'm not a Mark Murphy fan whatsoever, but it wasn't all on Ted either. There was some very well thought-of personnel guys in the front office who whiffed on those picks too.
  18. Or an inexplicably crazy competence streak on both sides of the ball.
  19. For how great he drafting his first 5-6 years, he really was not good at all the last 6.
  20. The Packers are so, so terrible against TEs.
  21. Both clear penalties. Imagine if they didnt those? Just shove the receiver to the ground in middle of endzone Yeah, those calls were obvious.
  22. Jason Spriggs continues to hurt this team, even from injured reserve. I think they cut him loose. He's on IR yet ... but the point is he was drafted to be that swing tackle, and was a pretty major failure before getting hurt this year. The trickle down is Alex Light.
  23. I can't tell you how much I hate that this team has no urgency in the huddle and getting up to the line of scrimmage. It is absolutely infuriating.
  24. Jason Spriggs continues to hurt this team, even from injured reserve.
  25. Good for you that you can maintain a positive outlook, and I don't mean that sarcastically. I just see too many holes. They just don't have the skill players on offense to be able to beat top defenses like the 49ers and Saints. They have probably the worst special teams unit I've ever seen as a Packer fan. All of that could perhaps be overcome if they had an elite defense, but they don't have one, not even close. I see probably a 6-4 quality team that has won almost all close games against almost all average opponents. They'll almost certainly be a playoff team, but I'm not expecting much. I can't buy into the 2010 comparisons. That team certainly was written off too as you said, but that team was in every single game it played all season long. They never had a game where they looked like they didn't belong. I think the positive outlook stems from the fact that even if they were 6-4 that would be an improvement over the absolute boredom that has been the last 2 seasons. Why would anyone expect the Packers to be a top 4 team this year? It was a bad team that signed three solid FA names (which is basically a typical offseason for any team not run by Ted Thompson) under a first-year coach. I think the NFCCG is a ridiculous standard for calling this a successful season. It's successful if they go 10-6 and lose in the WC. It would be they overachieved in the first half and came back down to earth. I think this team is a good comp with the 2009 team, developmentally. They're not good in the same areas, but they're an ascending team just not quite there yet. I think this is an awesome perspective to have. I agree wholeheartedly.
