  1. If he can be had that affordably, I would understand making the move. I personally think that he ends up signing for substantially more than that, but I've been wrong plenty before. I don't think he's the type or caliber of player it is smart to get into a bidding war over, though.

  3. That's a good point. I guess I was just assuming that when people say they want Arcia replaced, they want him completely off the team. I never even really considered that he could be kept in a theoretically platoon situation or part-time role. I'm just worried about spending millions on another bad player.
  4. Exactly! Arcia obviously has a lower floor than Iglesias, but he offers a higher ceiling as well. It's risky to dump a guy who is 25 and has yet to reach his theoretical prime for a guy who may be already past his.
  5. I've been using all the free samples of the streaming options since Sling TV dropped Fox Sports Wisconsin, and each have their good and bad points. The best was probably YouTube TV, simply due to the fewest glitches and functionality. As for offerings, I like Playstation Vue the best, as it is the only one that offers close to everything I'm looking for channel-wise. I've found it to be a little glitchy with my slower internet speed, though. Tried Hulu Live TV, AT&T TV and Fubo Live TV, and hated them for various reasons. Not only is Sling the cheapest, it is also the easiest to use IMO, and least glitchy. I'll probably be switching back to Sling once the Brewers are done playing this year, then pick up something else next spring. Really wish that Sling would pick the Fox regional sports networks back up, but it doesn't look its ever going to happen now.
  6. I always love reading your posts here, but are you actually saying that signing Iglesias to something like a 2/$6-8 million contract is a fireable offense for a GM? Especially at a position that we have been trotting out the worst hitter in MLB at? I actually think signing a guy like him is a no-brainer. If you think Iglesias is the solid contact hitter who doesn't strike out much and is putting up a .720 OPS this year, fine, yeah, that's an upgrade. But we're talking about a guy with a career OPS of .685. He brings next to no power, doesn't do a lot on the basepaths, and is a solid but unspectacular defender. His range isn't great, and he will be entering his age 30 season, an age when range factors typically start to decrease for middle infielders. And because he is having a decent season offensively, it is likely he's looking at a solid multi-year deal. All I'm trying to say is that if you throw money at Iglesias expecting him to be a massive upgrade from Arcia, you're more than likely going to be disappointed with a player who is probably going to be fine, but certainly isn't going to get any better. And say you have to sign him to a 2 or 3 year deal at $4-$5 million per year ... that is probably what a guy like Pomeranz is looking at. I just want to get the best bang for what are going to be limited bucks, and I just don't see the Iglesias/Arcia upgrade as enough of a bang.
  7. Nah. Even if the Cards win today, you play to win today and tomorrow, and go into Friday two games down.
  8. Mets are in the same spot as the Cubs ... comatose and on death's doorstep, but a glimmer of brain function.
  9. Yes, 100% knee-jerk. Falling in love with, and throwing money at a marginal upgrade is what gets GMs fired.
  10. I said this in the "Other MLB Games" thread, but it makes sense here, too. DBacks are throwing Merrill Kelly against Michael Wacha this afternoon, which is a matchup that may actually favor the DBacks, if only slightly. Boy, if the DBacks find a way to steal today's game, and the Brewers take care of business the next two days, there's a possibility that the Brewers go into this weekend one game back of the Cards. I mean, none of this is probable, but you continue to cheer for the math to work until it no longer works. I think that those of you who have been saying that the Brewers stand no shot at the division are probably jumping the gun a bit.
  11. They play today at 2:30. You can bet both teams are going to be wiped. 12. Flaherty has a NO HITTER! It's a NO HITTER. Keep talking about it LOL.
  13. I hope the Brewers don't bank on Shaw returning to being an average player even. I wouldn't even offer him arby myself, but can see the argument, especially if Thames doesn't return for whatever reason. Thames has a $7.5M club option for next season, do you think the Brewers should pick up that option? Next season MLB will likely have a 26 man roster, if the Brewers pick up Thames option, Thames will play a lot of 1B with Braun rotating between LF and 1B. Next season's bench: Pina, Gamel, Shaw, Spangenberg and (Thames or Grisham) 1B is a relatively easy position to replace production at, but I think exercising that option is a no-brainer.
  14. Nothing will beat two clubhouse celebrations in a matter of a week in the St. Louis and Chicago clubhouses, but I am totally down for video of Eric Thames shotgunning Miller Lites in the Cincy visitor's clubhouse tomorrow night.
  15. Yep, you chase the division until the math doesn't work anymore. I don't expect the DBacks this week or the Cubs this weekend to help out much, but it's baseball, so you never know.
  16. Nats sweep the double-header against the Phillies. The Phillies know where they can shove their "stupid money".
  17. Brewers getting no help at all from the DBacks. Fowler hit a leadoff HR to give the Cards an early lead.
  18. If the Pirates hold on it is down to 1 which given the schedule looks like the Brewers will wrap up the 2nd WC spot against the Reds. I don't think the division is in play or WC1. How is WC1 not in play?
  19. Mets losing ... Cubs losing. Brewers are pretty dang close to have a spot secured now. Now we just gotta hope for an unlikely Cardinals slide.
  20. Because of course he did. Thanks Phillies!
