  1. Matt Albers has been the steady influence in the pen lately. He's been really, really good. Good thing we didn't DFA him as several were pushing for a while back.
  2. It isn't like the alternatives are a heck of a lot better. sadly, true. I would have expected Hader for the 8th and 9th though... Hader against this homer-happy lineup is also very scary.
  3. 2-3 tonight now with two singles to go with his GIDP. Our major league catcher and 1B are both having better nights.
  4. I only brought up Gattis as a 1B type similar to Aguilar who is available for free. I never advocated him coming to the Brewers. The point was simply that there are literally hitters valued similar to Aguilar available for free.
  5. Off the top of my head, Evan Gattis and Jose Bautista. Danny Valencia. Matt Holliday. Brandon Phillips. Ryan Rua. In essense, replacement-level 1B options, like what Aguilar is. Some of those guys are 75 years old Jesus only runs like he's 75 LOL

  7. Then they get Lucroy for free. It's been a rough year for Stearns. He needs to self reflect. He needs to be better. He has done a great job but this year has been a disaster. Well, Lucroy was free for a reason. He's just not good anymore. Also, how was Stearns going to do anything about that? Lucroy wasn't going to sign with the Brewers to be the #3. Kinda funny that the Cubs have cycled through the Brewers 2012-2016 catching depth chart. I wonder what Nevin Ashley and Matt Pagnozzi are up to?
  8. When a team like the Rays is willing to give you one of their pitchers for a struggling, non-versatile 1B, be very suspicious. I'm sort of surprised a struggling, non-versatile 1B was worth much of anything, actually. Faria may not be much, but there are guys Aguilar's caliber out there for free.
  9. I had very high hopes for Faria. They are dwindling. Getting a big Wes Obermueller vibe from him. And that is not good.
  10. The guy was a legit star last year. If they can get his bat back to league average, while maintaining his elite defense, it's a good contract. That is a big if though.
  11. But was Freitas catching? Yes, and obviously has done a terrible job pitch calling, but he is 1-1, ave up to .385 now. 1-2, just hit into a double play. He'd fit right in tonight!
  12. Somewhat surprisingly Piña and Grandal have had identical caught stealing percentages this season (coming into tonight) at 29%. Grandal has actually been solid in that part of the game. He's a good framer as well. Was the upgrade worth the cost, though?
  13. This is the same guy everyone wanted to see called up to make a start last week...smh Yep .. good thing they got Jordan Lyles. Pretty dang deft move.
  14. Man Manny has a terrific arm back there. If this team had more offensive consistency, I'd have no problem with him being the #1 again.
  15. Sunday was rough, but I could at least understand it against Minor. He's been good a long time. But scuffling against a junk pitcher like Perez? Yeah ... Once rosters expand in a couple weeks, the Brewers may not face many righty starters. The scouting report says they can be neutralized by any junk lefty.
  16. I would have gladly given up Grisham and Turang. Even Zack Brown if the Angels picked up half his salary. Corey Ray's trade value is still good, right?
  17. I brought that up earlier and was lambasted. It's 100% the truth, though. This lineup may have been balanced in theory, but it has never advanced beyond theoretical. They are facing a guy who has struggled for two months right now, and are looking horrible. Two days after being shut-out by an actual decent lefty. Yeah, that's an issue.
  18. I would like to see Freitas up ... but you pretty much made this point, almost verbatim, in this thread 2 1/2 hours ago.
