  1. 1. I highly doubt the Grandal leading off thing is a long-term solution. 2. Aguilar is finally starting to swing it better. Hopefully he gets to the point of being a productive hitter again.
  2. The easy move is an option of Shaw to AAA. They could also drop a reliever and go with a 12-man pitching staff. If Shaw has options and cannot refuse assignment to the minors that move is a no brainer. I assumed the reluctance to bring up Hiura was because they couldn’t send Shaw down. They most definitely can, and he most definitely cannot refuse to go. It's one of the factors that makes this whole situation more baffling by the day.

  4. I doubt that the Brewers have their heads in the sand on this. They know, and I'm sure they have their reasons for doing what they are doing. i just wish I knew them.
  5. 3 run HR. Chase Anderson drove in the first run with a sac bunt suicide squeeze.
  6. According to gameday he K'd on a straight fastball that was a foot outside. Glad to know we got rid of Keon Broxton to pay $80M to Keon Broxton 2.0 Yeah, Cain was horrible last year. Dump him.
  7. Really? You must be seeing something I'm not then. The Brewers are certainly not a top-notch defensive squad with Moose at 2B, but I haven't seen any concerning issues defensively.
  8. Nice start for Chase. Hopefully he can give them a solid outing and save a little wear and tear on the pen.
  9. There will be better catchers out there than a 33-year-old Manny piña. With multiple suitors and who'll cost way more and no guarantee to get them. If you sign them, well then you can not sign Pina back or keep him as backup, trade others, whatever you want. In NBA terms, think of it as not giving up an asset for nothing. There sure is a lot of recency bias when it comes to Pina. The guy is a solid defensive catcher, and was very good offensively in 2017, and still pretty decent last year. Yeah, he hasn't been great in very sporadic playing time this year, but as a reserve catcher, you can do a heck of a lot worse than Manny Pina.
  10. Agreed on Dubon. Everyone is excited by how Hiura is handling AAA pitching, but Dubon has been nearly as impressive, while also finding a power stroke that many didn't realize he had. The future of this team's middle infield is in a really good place right now. Dubon is one Perez or Arcia injury away from being a regular at the MLB level. Fortunately (or perhaps unfortunately in Dubon's case), those guys have been extremely durable so far.
  11. This post just made me smile. Thanks for that. Good to see that there's still some hope out there
  12. As many Brewers call-ups have proven this season, AAA success does not necessarily equal success in the majors. Frietas is certainly an interesting case, as he's seemingly found something over the last couple years to put him in the upper echelon of AAA hitters. While he stats were pretty solid before 2018, there's also probably a reason he's never really been given much of an opportunity besides his barely 100+ plate appearances with Seattle last year. If the Brewers are going to stay in house at the C position in 2020, and can't afford to re-sign Grandal, you are probably looking at a mix of Pina, Nottingham and perhaps Freitas or another veteran type FA signing. Nottingham just turned 24, so I still think he needs to be viewed as the catcher of the future. His AAA numbers are solid again, and he looked fine in his brief call-up this year. Going with Nottingham/Pina next year is going to be an offensive step down from Grandal, but maybe not as bad as it could be.
  13. If Pina has a good game last night, no one is talking about that move today. While his bat has been someone hot in June, he didn't, so the criticism is more warranted. It just seems like whatever buttons Counsell is pushing aren't working right now. I agree, though. If you aren't going to use Aguilar coming off a two-hit game against crap lefties, he really serves no purpose on this team.
  14. C Grandal RF Yelich 2B Moustakas LF Braun 1B Thames CF Cain 3B Shaw P Anderson SS Arcia Good to see Lo Cain back in the lineup today. It means his thumb reacted well to the cryo therapy. Hopefully today is the start of something good.
  15. I've always liked Wheeler as well ... ever since the Brewers initially dealt for him in that scrapped Gomez deal. I agree that the prospect cost shouldn't be insane.
  16. The whole point of this exercise is comparing tools and style, and not stats. And I'd argue that style- and tool-wise, Corey Ray is a carbon copy of a young Ray Lankford. Of course, sometimes unfortunately substance and style don't always coincide.
  17. That's the problem, though. These guys will never get going if they don't play, and they aren't playing well enough when they are out there to get regular playing time. It turns into a cyclical argument that never has a resolution. The Brewers have to crap or get off the pot, because something has to give here, and quick. Houser certainly wasn't good last night (bummer), but the bullpen guys were stars last night, and an offense as "prolific" as the Brewers should have been able to claw back into that game. But it's gotten to to point that whenever Yelich scuffles, he brings the offense down with him because other than Moose and Grandal, no one else has stepped up. That needs to change.
  18. Hard to fault the pitching tonight. Offense was stymied by yet another middling lefty.
  19. I fear opponents are going to continue adjusting their staffs to trot out every lefty they can find as long as the Brewers keep up with this odd roster construction. I may not have agreed with every roster move this team has made over the last couple years, but most can be easily explained. Keeping Hiura in the minors simply cannot.
