  1. Thames has been fine lately Why is the grass always greener?
  2. You're right. I never, ever understood the hate he got here. He's a fun, exciting player who is playing a game for a living. God forbid yu show excitement and flare while you're doing it.
  3. Yep ... just because he's not pumping in 40 points a game doesn't mean he's not a huge factor.
  4. We'll see how much fortitude this team has now. Back is up against the wall.
  5. Bucks just beat by a better team tonight. This series is making me think that a lot of people have over-rated the Bucks. Me included.
  6. Toronto beating the Bucks at their own game. Hitting pretty much every 3 they take.
  7. No. I'm sure Shaw could have played at 2B. I think they saw and continue to see him as the team's long-term 3B, and figured that the defense was close enough that Shaw should just stay at 3B. But it can also be argued that Moose's quicker hands and instincts also make him a better fit at 2B than Shaw.
  8. I don't think moving Moose to 2nd this year as opposed to moving Shaw to 2nd last summer had anything to do with trying to keep Shaw happy. It more has to do with Shaw being part of the long-term future, and there being next to no depth at 3B beyond him. As we know, Moose is on a 1-year deal, and there is a strong 2B contingency plan in place.
  9. So much better from Orlando. Yeah, he probably swung at ball 4, but he managed to get enough to inside-out a single.
  10. What's the point of even having a "blocking the plate" rule if you never, ever call it?
  11. The short answer to that question is Keston Hiura. He's definitely making a case to stay up with the big club. It's just nice having another bat in the lineup who shows some modicum of balance.
  12. Well ... time for this offense to stop relying on Yelich for production. These other guys have to produce.
  13. Our right hand bats are Cain who is a great all around player but not a power threat, Braun who is still a decent player but hurt a lot, Aguilar with his .304 slugging pct, Grandal who is better as a lefty, Hiura who will be great but maybe not this year, Arcia who is not a great offensive player and Perez with his sub .300 OBP. We can definitely use an upgrade at first base if Aguilar doesnt show major improvement. If Aguilar improves dramatically in the next month or so maybe we don't have to make a move like this but there is a good chance that he doesn't. The sample size simply isn't large enough to make a determination like that. He has shown he can hit Big League pitching to very good success. Yes, there is a chance that he doesn't improve, but saying its a good chance is simply unsubstantiated opinion.
  14. Everyone knows what he is doing right now hasn't been great. But we are only 50 games into a 162-game season. I think the much more prudent thing to do is hold tight, and look at making a move in July if there isn't any improvement at the 1B position. While you personally may not expect Aguilar to start hitting, I would hope the Brewers do.
  15. Aguilar has been terrible since the second half of last year and Encarnacion has been good for years. We desperately need a right handed bat and Encarnacion will come cheap. Yeah the contract isn't ideal but having a first baseman slugging in the low .300s is not acceptable for a contending team. We need a legit right handed threat to help balance this lineup. Hopefully Hiura can help this situation and Braun continues to be at least decent but the first base situation needs to be fixed. Seattle will probably just be happy to dump the contract and we should pounce on this opportunity unless Aguilar all of a sudden starts hitting which I don't expect to happen. Go look at the numbers Jesus put up from August on last year. Saying Aguilar has been terrible since the second half of last year is simply incorrect. He hasn't been great this year, but also isn't the black hole he's being made out as. This is a "grass is always greener" argument right now, as we are still early in the season. If we get to the end of June and Jesus is still struggling to find his power, then making a move would be a consideration.
  16. Yes there is ... but it means dropping a reliever and going with a bigger bench and 12 man pitching staff. Not an option. Why would they do that? So Shaw or Hiura can rot on the bench? So Thames can get a one AB a week? They aren't going to short their pitching staff. They could do it, but they won't...would be quite shocking and honestly wouldn't make much sense. I wouldn't say it isn't an option. If they were going to do it, the next month of so of games with built-in off days every week would be the time to do it. Plus they are filling the staff with pitchers capable of throwing multiple innings, which will especially be true once Nelson is activated. It may not be probable, as Counsell has shown an affinity for a 13-man pitching staff, but it is certainly possible.
  17. Come on Clancy, you know that there is no pitcher in the majors who decides to intentionally walk a batter. That is coming from the manager 100% of the time.
  18. Yes there is ... but it means dropping a reliever and going with a bigger bench and 12 man pitching staff.
  19. It's also possible that with the off days in the schedule over the next month, they may go down to a 12-man pitching staff. That would enable them to carry Shaw without sending a bat down.
  20. I was half-joking, but flexible piggybacking wouldn't mean you never let a starter go 100 pitches if the match-up is right, the game situation calls for it, and/or many of your long relievers are unavailable. Also, it's definitely possible that they're stretching him out so much just to make sure he's 100% healthy. Speaking of healthy, surprised the crew didn’t have Nelson pitch this next AAA start on 4 days rest? He's going on Thursday I believe, which would be 6 days between starts. That seems to line up pretty close to where they will be at the MLB level for the immediate future with off days built into the schedule. Perhaps they will actually go to a 6-man rotation for awhile? This is actually a terrific situation to be in.
