  1. Big difference between $4-5 million and $10 million. Also, Schoop was a K machine last year, and Harrison rarely Ks.
  2. This is an open-ended question. If the Brewers identify a player that provides value at a position of need, the money will be there. I have no doubt in that.
  3. That's my hope. Marwin is young enough, too, to be a core guy for the team's full window. I wouldn't have any problem signing him to a 3-4 year contract, provided the per year average is palatable.
  4. Count me among the (very) few here who like the idea of Josh Harrison on this team. I think he could put up solid numbers (.260-.270 average, .700-.725 OPS) in Miller Park and play a steady 2B on defense. If Keston proves ready for a promotion mid-year, Harrison doesn't strike me as the type who is going to sulk, and I think he'd be energized playing for a title contender. Plus, he is not a heavy K guy, so that would be a nice change of pace after watching Villar and Schoop flail away at that spot most of last year. My first choice would be Marwin Gonzalez, followed closely by Moose on a 2-year deal, but I wouldn't mind Harrison at all. He's a veteran who is well respected in the league and has always played the game the right way. He would bring a dose of energy to the team as well.
  5. Yes I would. Stearns values defense, and Cabrera is bad wherever you put him. Shaw is a better option defensively at 2B.
  6. You can leave your Brewer fandom badge at the door, take a long walk, and really think that one over. Seems to me that adding great players to the Brewers roster is something that Brewers fans should want so I don’t quite follow your post here. He means Machado is a turd, and he likely joins the majority of Brewer fans in not wanting him on the team. Fortunately, Stearns is a smart GM, and knows Machado would be embraced in Milwaukee about as well as a wet fart.
  7. My prediction is either Moose at 2 years/$18 million or Marwin Gonzalez at 3 years/$25 million. I'd be good with either one. Moose was a great fit in the locker room last year.
  8. I'm not sure what the numbers said, but I was very impressed with Perez's play at SS last year. Dubon is lurking around as well to cover for short periods of time. If Arcia suffers a season ending injury I think we'd have to make a trade to more permanently cover the position, but I would doubt that the ability to play SS plays into who they sign to start the year. We're definitely covered for an emergency, but I was thinking of the scenario where Cabrera/Player X is hitting really well and Hiura is tearing the cover off the ball, while Arcia is struggling again. I don't think Perez bumps Arcia in that scenario, but I could see Cabrera becoming the everyday SS. Then again maybe Cabrera can't even play SS everyday anymore. The issue with that is that Cabrera is an absolutely horrid defensive SS. The downgrade from Arcia to him would be enormous.
  9. Well there goes another 2nd base option. I'm guessing he's getting between $24 and $30 million
  10. All this speculation, and it'll probably just be Moose signing for 2/18.
  11. Other than last year, he's been pretty solid. Not a superstar, but a high-energy spark plug type. I don't understand where the idea that he sucks is coming from. I mean, who are people expecting is going to be open to signing a one-year deal?
  12. The Padres didn't learn anything from signing Hosmer? They're going to be in on Realmuto for 2 years? Do they really think that's their window. It's one thing to shred money, it's another to trade prospects from a pool they need to rebuild for 2 years of 78 wins instead of 74... Heck I'd love if he went to the Padres or Rays. I just don't want to see him go to an NL contender or NL Central team during the Brewers' contention window.
  13. Pretty sure that most MLB players at least have a general concept of how baseball economics work. Those in the Brewers' clubhouse are no different. You are picking an odd hill to die on here.
  14. I don't really get the Reds interest. Tucker Barnhart is no slouch.
  15. This team was going to be competitive with or without Grandal. They were within one game of the WS with Erik Kratz getting the majority of the starts! I don't think you sign a top catcher to an $18+ million 1-year deal without shooting for the moon. That's why I don't think they are done making big moves too.
  16. I still think he might circle back around to Whit. Peralta, Ray, Dubon, and Taylor Williams, and Houser... who says no? Whit Merrifield? Brewers say "NO" times x1000 I think you are seriously underestimating how valuable having a guy like Merrifield in your lineup is. The Brewers have signaled that they are all in on 2019.
  17. I still think he might circle back around to Whit. Peralta, Ray, Dubon, and Taylor Williams, and Houser... who says no? That is a big price, but Merrifield is such an absolute perfect fit for this lineup. I don't know if i'd go that high, but I wouldn't completely shoot it down either.
  18. What do you think of Marwin Gonzalez? He strikes me as the type of guy Stearns and Counsell would love. Even more of a Swiss Army Knife than Perez.
  19. Didn't they sign Descalso with the idea of him splitting time there with Zobrist? I imagine Baez would move there if they hang on to Russell after his suspension as well.
  20. This move in no way precludes them from upgrading at 2B and in the rotation.
  21. Eh, versatility, leadership and that fact that he is likely looking at a short-term, affordable deal. If guys like LeMahieu and Lowrie are demanding 3 years and substantially more per year, the downgrade from those guys to Harrison likely isn't drastic enough to make up the difference.
  22. Yes, 38 career games at 1B. I'm sure that came into play. Kratz is injury insurance and a potential Nottingham mentor at San Antonio.
  23. ...but he kind of sucks. I just don't want anything to do with this guy. Wasn't great last year, but consistently solid to very good before that. I think you could do a whole lot worse on a short-term deal as a bridge guy. He can transition to a super sub and play anywhere as well.
  24. Is Passan's source named "Common Sense"?
  25. I keep forgetting about Josh Harrison, but the more I think about him, they more I think he might be the guy.
