  1. Well Ottavino, when on, is close to Jeffress-level good. Rockies have a much better pen than the Cubs.
  2. LOL Heyward. Good use of lots of funds
  3. Might have pulled Freeland an out too early. Ottavino looks like a ball of nerves.
  4. I think Bryce Harper is already a Cub. That doesn't really bother me much, though. They'll keep outside spending, and we'll keep finding deals and building from within.
  5. Freeland was an absolute stud tonight. Huge stage, and the young guy came through. If the pen holds up, the Rockies move on.
  6. Maddon talked about giving Lester a longer leash tonight than most pitchers. Yes, this decision may come back to torment him. Well, 6 innings is a super long leash considering how Maddon loves going to to the pen. Still, I would have given Lester at least another inning ... or simply just let him go until he gets in trouble. He looked dominant after the 1st inning. And to go to Chavez, who just went 2 against the Brewers yesterday? Playing with fire.
  7. Maddon is pulling Lester, who was pretty close to dominant tonight, after 6. To go to his gassed bullpen. If this game doesn't work out for the Cubs, that one is going to be questioned.
  8. At this point, does it really matter? We are still playing games, right? Yep, it matters. If Jeffress pitches Game 1, are we going to be holding Jeffress out of Game 2? Awfully strange when people are saying all is well. If something strange like that happens, yeah, it should be questioned. But I think at this point as fans we should probably take them at their word. This team hasn't given its fans any reason not to.
  9. At this point, does it really matter?
  10. Yeah it's kind of be careful what you wish for. The Rockies are really dangerous and playing very well. I can understand why people don't want the Cubs but you could argue really easily that the Rockies are a tougher matchup. My brain wants the Cubs, but my heart wants the Rockies, if that makes any sense. I don't know if my nerves could take a five-gamer vs. the Cubs. Yesterday was rough.
  11. Both starters have been terrific tonight. Lester was a little shaky early, but now is pitching beautifully. Freeland has been awesome. So glad that we'd only see either of these guys once in the NLDS.
  12. I don't think you can determine who gets your tickets if you use a site like StubHub. And selling tickets yourself outright can be a pretty big hassle. If the Cubs win tonight, there will be a lot of Cub fans there. That's simply because there are a ton of Cub fans that reside in southern Wisconsin in close proximity to Miller Park. And you know that after the big crowd of Brewer fans that invaded Wrigley yesterday, those Cub fans will be chomping at the bit to be loud at Miller.
  13. I won't pretend to know the meaning of JJ's "unavailability". Here's my guess: Woodruff warming in the 9th signaled to me that it was Hader's inning. They were either going to lose the game with Hader on the mound in the 9th, or Woodruff was coming in to pitch the 10th in a tie game. This is pretty obviously what was going on. JJ was being saved for today. Woodruff could have gone multiple innings and extras, saving the rest of the pen. I think you are 100% correct. Jeffress pitched high-leverage innings on Friday and Saturday, so pitching him yesterday, then turning around and pitching him today would have been asking a lot. I too just wish they would have come out and said that, instead of the "undisclosed" crap. I truly believe that JJ has his life in order, but with any guy who has has demons in his past, there is always a chance, however tiny, that they can come back.
  14. Him as a Blue Jay still is cringe worthy to this day. Granted i was only 9 when that happened.. but... still... BARF Not Sal Bando's finest moment. Those mid-90s Brewer teams were an absolute mess.
  15. My guess is the Blue Jays grab him if he's interested. That would be a decent fit.
  16. Hey, the Cubs finally overtook the Brewers in the Loss Column! That's all that matters
  17. I'm starting to waiver on my insistence that they need a TOR starter. They have a ton of starting pitching depth going into next season, and it will be even more if they hang onto guys like Miley and Gio. I think Burnes has the opportunity to be a front-end rotation guy already next year, and Peralta has that ability as well, even though I think he's a little more of a wild card. Chacin has pitched at close to an ace level most of the year, and I have no problem slotting him into next year's rotation as a workhorse. Nelson is another wild card, but all indications are that he'll be back at hopefully close to full strength next year. Then you have Anderson and Davies, who have shown flashes of their 2017 numbers at times this year, but have been inconsistent too. This year's pitching staff helped win 96 games this year, and at least on paper, next year's staff is going to be better.
  18. The Cubs didn't choke or give anything away. The Brewers just played out of their minds starting the end of August and through September, and caught a good team at the end. The Cubs have nothing to hang their heads about. That is a great baseball team, and I fully expect them to win tonight to set up a barnburner of a series starting Thursday.
  19. Here's a link to Uecker's call of the final out! https://bleacherreport.com/post/milwaukee-brewers/c64c1e31-dda9-44fa-bb3b-80c40d6e4f06
  20. Watching Maddon blow through relievers like tic-tacs this afternoon really puts the job Counsell did this year in perspective. He pushed so many of the right buttons, and his acumen helped a team that I think most anyone would agree is talented, but not the most talented team in the NL, to 96 wins, the best record in the NL, and a Central Division Championship. He is a very smart baseball man that showed a great understanding of both analytics and going with his gut this year, and was very successful. If he doesn't win, it wouldn't only be a shame, it would arguably be a mockery.
  21. Just watching the Rockies/Dodgers game, and a commercial came on for tomorrow's NL Wild Card game. It had a bunch of Brewer clips on it. Whoops!
  22. I think Jeremy was off limits in case they lost, and he was needed tomorrow. I have no problem with Hader getting the 9th there. I'm sure it was based on matchups.
  23. Champagne celebrations at Busch Stadium and Wrigley Field. How absolutely perfect is that?
