  1. The money only goes so far, though. Especially with the younger guys, they are motivated to have control of their own teams.
  2. I think a lot of people will be tuning out the Packers this weekend. You are underestimating this big time. The Packers are always going to be more popular in this state, regardless of how the teams are actually doing. It sucks, but that's just the way it is. It is pretty awesome that the Brewers are stealing some Packer thunder as we head into October, but to the majority of of Wisconsin sports fans, the Packers will always be #1, probably followed by the Badgers at #2, and the Brewers and Bucks a distant #3-#4.
  3. Yep, Dodgers losing to Arizona last night was big in that regard. Boy, wouldn't it be something if the Cubs and Dodgers had to play the Wild Card game at Wrigley? Or better yet, Cubs and Cardinals in Wrigley on Monday, which would basically be game 4 of the series.
  4. I worry about a let-down as well, as they played really hard and put everything into this Cardinal series. But every player quote last night, along with Counsell, indicated that no one feels like the job is done. It's going to be a raucous atmosphere at Miller Par this weekend. Hopefully the players can feed off of that, and end the season on a great note.
  5. Seeing those fans singing "Go Cubs Go" with glee last night after those same fans were boisterously booing them Tuesday night really irked the heck out of me. What a bunch of fair-weather tools. I really don't mind most of the Cubs players. Bryant and Rizzo seem like decent dudes. I'd love to have Baez's energy and enthusiasm on this team. A guy like Zobrist would be great to have around. Contreras seems like he's a jerk, and Hamels is an idiot. But for the most part, I have no beef with their players. Those fans, though .... ugh.
  6. Even if the Cubs win, they only have a one game lead. Seeing the Cards take 2 of 3 this weekend wouldn't surprise me in the least. If its gets to #163, I love the Brewers' chances. The only thing that worries me is that Quintana would be lined up to start that game. He's been the Brewers' kryponite since going to the Cubs.
  7. That 1992 team was the first I followed super closely. They were a really fun team to root for. The lineup was a nice mix of legends (Yount, Molitor) cagey vets (Gantner, Scotty Fletcher, Kevin Seitzer) and young studs (Greg Vaughn, Dante Bichette, B.J. Surhoff, Daryl Hamilton, John Jaha). I remember being crushed when Bill Spiers went down with an injury early on, and they brought up a no-name minor leaguer to replace him. Pat Listach went on to be the table setter for that incredible club. Perhaps the best part of that team was the pitching. Everyone remembers Cal Eldred coming up to replace an ineffective Rob Robinson in the rotation, and the great numbers Eldred put up. But Bosio, Navarro and Bill Wegmen were spectacular that year as well, while Bones held his own after coming over in the Sheffield deal. That was also the weird year that Plesac was removed from the closer's role, and tried as a starter for some time. Mike Fetters, James Austin, Old Man Jesse Orosco and Darren Holmes were bullpen studs that year. I remember Doug Henry blowing quite a few saves that year as well.
  8. What a terrific late-season pitching matchup. Really looking forward to watching this game. The Cubs offense showed signs of life last night, but I predict they go back into their hole tonight, and looking at the pitchers the Cards are throwing this weekend, the Cubs offense may not emerge. The Pirates are going to be a thorn in the sides of the Brewers and Cubs for the next several years. That pitching staff is legit, especially if Archer finds more consistency. Also, go Phillies! They've looked horrible in that series against the Rockies, bit Arrieta is going tonight, so maybe. The more the Rockies and Dodgers lose, the longer the Cardinals can hang around the playoff chase, which makes their games against the Cubs all the more meaningful.
  9. The Dodgers losing to Arizona last night was huge, as it keeps the Cardinals one game down in the Wild Card hunt. They have everything to play for this weekend, at least in the first two games. If the Cards can take two, that would be huge! The Brewers are winning out, so all it's going to take is one Cubs slip-up. I think the chances of the teams being tied for the division lead after tonight are very, very high.
  10. Buzz ... kill
  11. The Cubs face Trevor Williams tonight. He's been among the best starting pitchers in baseball in the second half of the season, and is absolutely not a pushover. Lester is pitching for the Cubs. I am expecting a low-scoring game. It going to be a matter of if and when the Pirates can get to that overripe bullpen. I totally and completely expect a Pirates win this evening. The Cardinals are one game out of a Wild Card game, so they have no choice but to put together good showing this weekend, and hope the Dodgers continue to lose. I don't think the Rockies are going to fall off. They lucked out with getting hot combined with playing teams that have thrown in the towel this year.
  12. That win keeps them from going into history with one of the more epic collapses in recent history. I would be very surprised if the Cubs pull out tomorrow's game, and this weekend is going to be tough on them as well. Sure, they could get hot, but that team is looking pretty fried to me. I predict by this time tomorrow, the Brewers will control their own destiny for the division (at least a game 163).
  13. Cubs will have a rough time getting anything off Williams tomorrow, and face arguably the Cardinals top three pitchers this weekend. If the Brewers take care of business, they are in a very good spot.
  14. Especially to their pinch runner, like walking Keon I think it was Happ that batted, who was replaced by Gore.
  15. Too bad (The) Drake wasnt the pitcher Ha ... if The Drake was in the Cubs pen, he probably would be closing.
  16. Pirates getting their last ups in a 6-4 game. They could really make this a terrific night for Brewer fans.
  17. You say Lo, I say Cain, Lo Cain Lo Cain. They do that chant a lot pregame with him leading a bunch of the Hispanic players in the chant. Cain plays it off like he's embarrased, but you know he secretly loves it LOL.
  18. At worst, they go into this weekend down one game in the central, if not tied with the Cubs. Pressure is on the Cubs to play very hard against the Cardinals. NOTHING is set in stone that the Brewers will even be playing in the Wild Card game.
