  1. They blew through 10 relievers last night. Granted several did not throw a lot of pitches, but I think it would be prudent to let a guy who looks fine go more than two innings.
  2. Well if we pretend he would have heated up here...I tend to be a realist and just accept we weren’t fixing him for whatever reason. Still not great...but is what it is. Still was kind of a pitiful trade value wise regardless though in my opinion. Schoop went from probably the hottest hitter in baseball to the coldest in a matter of days. If he would have kept up the pace he was at, it would have gone down as a great trade. And the team would likely have a few more wins. That's baseball, though.
  3. I'll beat a similar dead horse then. It was 100% obvious that Counsell was done with Villar.
  4. As much fun as it would be to see the Cubs go home for October, I just cannot bring myself to not want the Brewers to stomp the Cardinals tonight.
  5. Well, we stand a good shot of beating my very optimistic record prediction As for my other predictions, I got Yelich and Cain in the All-Star game, but struck out on Davies and Knebel. Shaw has been decent, but not near what guys like Yelich, Cain and Aguilar have done. Really missed on Davies becoming a TOR starter. Suter was not surprising, and got hurt, so that's a miss. I think I nailed Most disappointing with Braun and Santana, although Santana hasn't been hurt. Also, Taylor Williams may still be the team's ROY, but he hasn't been dominant. He's been a good arm out there, though.
  6. Yeah, no doubt it would have been a huge drop-off. I think Lewis Brinson probably would have been in the OF mix as well, as I think the Cain FA deal would have happened regardless of Yelich being acquired. But if he wasn't, an OF of Braun/Phillips in LF, Brinson/Broxton in CF and Santana/Thames in RF would have been pretty scary.
  7. Actually Yelich's replacement would have likely been more playing time for Braun. It would have also meant that Brett Phillips likely would not have been traded, as he would have received regular playing time in LF during Braun's absences. I think the Brewers came out ahead
  8. How much does defense really play a role in MVP voting? Lets take a look: 2017 - Giancarlo Stanton - Solid RF defense, but I have a feeling his 59 HRs were what swung the vote. 2016 - Kris Bryant - Played most of his time at 3B, and frankly wasn't great there. Also spent a good chunk in the OF. He's an average defender. 2015 - Bryce Harper - Good defender 2014 - Clayton Kershaw - I guess he's an outlier 2013 - Andrew McCutchen - Solid defender, at least at that time. 2012 - Buster Posey - The fact that he put up the stats he did as a catcher won him the award 2011 - Ryan Braun - Proof that defense doesn't mean much in MVP votes. Braun at his best was an adequate LF. 2010 - Joey Votto - Good defender, but he's a 1B, so defensive value is marginal. 2008-2009 - Albert Pujols - At his best, Pujols was an average defender. Looking at this list, I just don't think MVP voters really care much about defensive value. There are some decent defenders on this list, but MVP is by and large an offensive award. And Yelich has Baez in nearly every major offensive category, several by large margins.
  9. What are they doing? Don't they know there's no fighting in the bleachers?? It would be so, so awesome to see that fanbase implode concurrently with the actual team's implosion on the field. The only offense they could muster last night was a Cole Hamels (!!!) solo homer. I know we complain about the Brewers' offense being streaky, but the Cubs might actually be worse.
  10. I haven't seen anything confirming it one way or another, but I would imagine Anderson is lined up to pitch a game against the Tigers at Miller this weekend. While he hasn't been the solid #2 he showed last year, Chase's numbers are still solid overall, and I would think they'd want to get some innings out of their starters against the Tigers in order to preserve pen depth.
  11. I personally would love to see Matt Albers and Jordan Lyles pitch multiple innings tonight, because it would likely mean we are up by at least 6 runs.* (*I refuse to acknowledge the other scenario that would lead to those two pitching multiple innings this evening.)
  12. I get that sentiment, but it's foolish to dance around it, too. I know we are conditioned as Brewer fans to expect the worst, but this is a totally different team this year. Past Brewer teams would have thrown in the towel last night after Hader gave up those two bombs. This team kept fighting, and scratched out a tough but well-earned win. I think we are to the point where we can talk about this team being among the best teams in the NL, and it's not just Brewer goggles or wishful thinking.
  13. The Brewers have gotten to the point where it would take a collapse of pretty epic proportions not to make the postseason.
  14. I would guess Barnes will get an inning for sure tonight. He's surprisingly been very good against the Cardinals this year. I think Woodruff will be first up out of the pen regardless of how long Gio goes, unless it's 7 or more. I'd be completely happy with 5 solid out of Gio tonight, though. Don't tempt fate too much.
  15. Brewers need Good Gio to show up tonight. I wouldn't say he's been a revelation for this pitching staff, but he's definitely been solid. I would think that we'll possibly see the "B" team of relievers tonight, including Barnes, Lyles and Woodruff. Jennings is obviously good to go, and Taylor Williams only threw 8 pitches last night, while Guerra only had 1, Cedeno 6, Burnes 9 and Soria 11. The pen should be in relatively good shape considering. Hader is probably down until Friday, and Peralta might be done for the year now. Hopefully Jeffress slept well and is good to go today or tomorrow.
  16. Saturday could be a division clinch game. Shoot for the moon!
  17. Just looking at the pitching matchups for the Pirates/Cubs series, and none of those are gimmes for the Cubs. Archer pitched great his last time out against KC, Nova has been very good for roughly the last month, and we all know what Trevor Williams can do. That Pirates starting staff could be very good.
  18. My guess is he slept like crap at the hotel last night, and woke up with a tight neck. I'm sure he was either in the clubhouse getting treatment, or sleeping. Hopefully he's back by tomorrow or Wednesday.
  19. Thank goodness. Hopefully it's a short term thing. May need him this series, considering how many relievers we went through tonight.
  20. If the Brewers take care of business tomorrow and Wednesday, and the Rockies continue to win, the Cardinals will be playing the Cubs this weekend for their playoff lives. I think at this point I am cheering for the Rockies.
  21. I know some of you guys would rather face the Cardinals in the Wild Card game or NLDS, but I want nothing of this team.
  22. With all the pitching changes and the rain delay, this game seems like it has taken 8 hours. Do you guys remember that Dan Jennings actually started this game?
  23. Jeremy has also battled anxiety issues in the past, which partially led to the addiction issues.
  24. Good thing they have more than one closer! Knebel has been great since coming back from AAA. Arguably more dominant than last year. I have no problem with him taking the 9th here.
