  1. Oakland claimed him, and then worked out a trade with the Tigers, so the Brewers never even had the chance.
  2. Where do you put Fiers? He's not pitching any better than anyone in the team's rotation. Plus Oakland claimed Fiers, so he never got to the Brewers.
  3. I think it is more of a case of the team made certain prospects available, and it just so happened that they were mostly guys who would need to be added to the 40-man. I'm sure that was by design. He also made some young "lottery ticket" types available that didn't stand much of a chance of helping the team for several years. I'm not real sure what you are trying to argue about here. The strategy makes a lot of sense. They didn't trade guys just to trade them. They traded them to land major league talent to help this year's team. I'm betting they will make a move or two more like this by the end of August as well.
  4. As a charter member of the "Brett Phillips Brewer Bandwagon" I know for a fact he was taking a lot of criticism here since spring training. Ortiz and Medieros were being talked about as "throw-in" types this spring as well. All were beginning to wear out their statuses as top prospects. Yes, they could all still break out and be stars, but I think it is just as likely that they don't end up doing much of anything at the MLB level. I am pulling for Phillips to make it, though. I thought he would the perfect right fielder that would provide Gold Glove defense and decent pop. He may still do that, but needs to make better contact. In the end, it isn't as if the Brewers gave up on any of these guys. You have to use talent to get talent back, and all three guys they acquired are high-end MLB players, who I imagine were all highly sought after.
  5. Price of doing business. And if the Brewers make the playoffs and make a run, it is payment well spent. None of those guys was a "must hold".
  6. Yep ... I liked that the offense showed signs of breaking out of their funk over the weekend. He'll get comfortable and start stinging the ball, I predict sooner rather than later. Get a few more guys other than Yelich and Cain hot, and watch out!
  7. Good post! I agree 100% So many here are so quick to rush to judgement. It's almost like there are a few around here that aren't happy unless they are complaining about something. Heck, someone actually posted in the IGT a couple days ago that Schoop needed to be designated for assignment! It was is third game with the team! I was always a big Villar fan, and it was very unfortunate the way his tenure ended with the Brewers. But it was obvious that Counsell and Stearns had lost faith in him, and those two are now going to have to wear that if/when Villar breaks out, which I expect him to, just as Segura and Gennett have broken out. The Brewers have not had much luck getting sustained production from their middle infielders for some reason during Counsell's tenure, which is actually pretty ironic when you consider his background. Schoop is going to be fine. He's never going to be a high OBP guy, which I would argue the team sorely needs, but he has proven to be good both offensively and defensively, by all accounts is a great locker room guy, and adds pop and another dangerous bat to a lineup that needed it. Lets not rush to judgement on the basis of five games.
  8. I don't think he has. Last time he pitched 2 was against the Cubs last year.
  9. Well Albers, Barnes and Jennings are in the pen. Not a lot of great options there.
  10. You are 100% correct. Unfortunately this team has had many opportunities being up my comfortable margins this year. But when they are, that is the chance to get struggling pitchers some work. Yes, Albers made things more nerve wracking, but it worked out in the end. Plus, most of our prime relievers are still available for today.
  11. I think my chloresterol went up just reading that sentence.
  12. Not gonna get a more ideal time to use Albers. Clean inning here would go a long way toward making him useful again. Yeah, a more ideal time is when you’re behind by 6 runs. Using him now gives the Rockies life. At this point, I think he's proven there isn't an ideal time. Why oh why can't this team ever have an easy win?
  13. So, because Hader warmed up, does that mean he's off limits for two days? That seems to be a logical jumping off point this year.
  14. Jeebus Albers. This is gonna turn into a save situation now
  15. Not gonna get a more ideal time to use Albers. Clean inning here would go a long way toward making him useful again.
  16. Nice inning for Peralta. Very efficient. Now a sure bet he comes out for the 6th.
  17. Yep. Gonna need a bunch more. If Peralta can get through six, I imagine they'll turn it over to Hader/Soria/Knebel. Hard not to be confident in that.
  18. That's why it would be nice to have Hauser or Woodruff up right now instead of Barnes. I'd like another guy that can go multiple inning. Both would be good in that role. Barnes not so much.
  19. Peralta with another high pitch count. Nice that Guerra went 8 last night.
  20. It's that "grass is always greener" philosophy. Same thing with the people that want Barnes back up. He was sent down for a reason (general suckiness), and while his numbers are better in AAA in only 6 innings, he still has 5 walks, which is concerning. But at least the Brewers still own his rights. DFA Albers, and him and his cheap contract is gone. Probably to the Cardinals, where he'd immediately put up a sub 2 ERA.
