  1. Aren't the Reds still playing for home field in the playoffs?
  2. Taylor Green is taking up a spot Does this guy have any trade value? If not it might be time to cut bait. They could also release Livian Hernandez as an option.
  3. Great thread, this always is the million dollar question. These guys are all relatively cheap and most are under team control for awhile. Gomez is approaching FA. With the recent success this year the Brewers have a chance to be special in 2014 if they can rebuild the bullpen. Offensively when Weeks is hot this team is really dangerous Defensively they have been outstanding this year or compared to recent years anyway Starting pitching- All these guys have shown glimpses, with Marcum probably not being back I would love to see a Yo, Estrada, Peralta, Fiers & Rogers rotation, that frees up ALOT of money to rebuild the bullpen, maybe add a big bat (can Aoki play CF?) or maybe you add a starter, although the Brewers will have Thornburg, Narveson, Burgos, Nelson and Jungmann and whoever else emerges waiting in the wings. Before all of these young players came out of nowhere I had little hope for next year but now things have changed. Shame on Baseball America for ranking us the 26th best minor league system. (I would argue Top 10 if you base it on promoting guys to the majors and they contribute). One last thought, I always wondered what the Brewers could have gotten for Pat Listach after his rookie year GO BREW
  4. Braun is the best all-around hiiter in baseball IMO plus, he does everything offensively you want in a great player. What a stud!!!
  5. Crew I'm not going to get into a pissing contest with you but maybe you should take a look, Monty's response isn't self explnatory. Here's a thought regarding the players totalling $60 million, maybe they trade one??? Run that through your faulty analysis. So you're arguing that we shouldn't trade Hart, but instead should extend him, knowing that his extension could very well cause us to hit a financial barrier. Your solution to avoid this financial barrier is that we should then trade Hart. Whose analysis is faulty? Please tell me where ANYWHERE I have advocated trading Hart, also just to clarify I would sign Hart at reasonable numbers (2 years $24 million is the number I threw out there), if he wants 3 year extension for $45 million I pass. Our starting pitching most likely is going to be comprised of cheap players. We won't be close to "the financial barrier" as people have posted. The "I'm feeling sorry for my market size" mentality of this board has been around for way too long. The Brewers have spent ALOT of money and have been in the top half of attendance and now they are getting more money via TV and Radio. We maybe in the smallest market in baseball but we sure don't ast like it. Yes, believe me I get it the other markets can outspend us. Outspending doesn't translate into winning, check out Boston this year. Since your playing police man today, you may want to checkout Paul's posts in this thread as well. As for this "People have been exceedingly patient with you despite comments such as..." What is this some type of a joke?? REALLY? I've been a poster on here for 5+ years and yes I like to mix things up a little but your sdtatement is just RIDICULOUS. I will give myself a timeout, thanks Crew for the great job you do on the board. Going forward I won't deal with any differing opinions regardless of how off the wall they are. Let's get the sweep today!!!!
  6. It absolutely does matter. Market size effects TV and radio contracts, ticket prices and pretty much everything else on the business side. If you have less people, you have less fans to draw from. Advertisers don't pay as much. Ticket prices are lower. Yes, IIRC the Brewers had higher viewership than the Angels, but they got a $30MM TV deal, while the Angels got a $150MM TV deal. If market size doesn't matter, why would you suppose the TV gurus would pay so much more to the Angels? Attanasio has done a lot to increase cash flow/revenues for the Brewers, but they seem to be about tapped out on new streams which are unique to the Brewers. From now on, most new revenue streams the Brewers receive will be shared through the league. Therefore, the Brewers are now largely at the mercy of attendance figures. Since that's pretty well maxed out, the only way it can go is down, and any drop in attendance will have a corresponding drop in revenues. In a small market like the Brewers, there should be a higher chance that attendance would drop, as in order to get to 3MM fans, many fans have to come to multiple games, so a small percentage of "disgruntled" fans will lead to less tickets sold. In bigger markets, a small percentage of the fan base getting disgruntled doesn't matter as much, because the fan base is so much larger. Teams like the Packers defy these odds, as a huge percentage of midwesterners would sell their soul to get Packer tickets. I don't think the Brewers have that loyal of a following. I think the Brewers will have a very hard time selling 3MM tickets next year, and I would bet their budget is going to be based on significatnly less than 3MM tickets sold. Where did I say they should trade Hart?? You might actually want to read the post your responding to.
  7. Paul just a friendly tip you now have (twice) put words in my mouth, don't try a third time. Small market teams don't draw 3 million people and they don't have $100 million dollar payrolls. Market size doesn't matter, its what the payroll is IMO Paul the way you look at players and salaries you act like its fantasy baseball, doesn't work that way my friend, stick to sportsline because I couldn't disagree more with your posts on this topic. Here's a thought regarding the players totalling $60 million, maybe they trade one??? Run that through your faulty analysis.
  8. He's also a guy with a significant history of arm trouble. I have no problem with how they are handling him. If you want to point to the moment they "gave up" its when they traded Greinke. They don't look like they have given up yet Maybe Rogers talks them into 1 or 2 more starts, if things tighten up
  9. I guess you can't take the small market mentality out of everybody. Hopefully, this gets done soon.
  10. Besides the fact that Hart's numbers are excellent and he's a terrific 1b, no I have no reason to want him signed because he came up through our system. being a season ticket holder and a HUGE fan of the team I want them to have the best product possible on the field. Having experienced the AZ game 5 in person last year (probably my greatest sport moment and I was at the 1996 Packer Super Bowl) I want that again and Hart definitely is a guy over the next 2-3 years can help us get back to that. BTW are we ouit of this year??
  11. How close do we have to get to think we're in it, 5 games?
  12. What about the old Hank Aaron bobble, that was a SGA, what in the 70's or 80's it was given out?
  13. He can be my 4th or 5th starter any day of the week. Spend on the bullpen. A couple of FA names I just saw for closers (Madson (INJ), Rodney, Valverde.
  14. No chance Marcum is back, he'll be lucky to get anything more than 1 year w/ an innings option IMO. (hopefully not with us).
  15. Putting your faith in rookies has cost many GM's their jobs. Hart is a solid and dependable thing, has come up through our organization, and by the way won the game tonight . 2 years for $22-$24 million gets this done, CH can play 1B next year and move to RF if Morris is the goods. This is setting up great for the Brewers, they probably have 3-4 starters on their team. They will have ALOT of money to spend this off-season to re-build this puke of a bullpen.
  16. Hart can play RF, how is he blocking Morris?
  17. Hart said he will take a 2 year extension, his family likes it here and he doesn't have to break the bank. This should be a no brainer, too often on this board some us only look at dollars (I would love to go see the Ramirez bashers and the posts stating Taylor Green can play 3b posts) Maybe its a fantasy baseball mentality but Davis, Gindl, Morris are unproven and how many rookies have flamed out, we gave Gamel a chance and he couldn't make it through a season. Hopefully, the Brew find one more stick (Morris) or a producer in RF (Hart is really good at 1b). Then they can spend their money on the pitching staff, ideally they probably will have to re-build almost the whole bullpen and probably add a starter.
  18. dudes Brewers will be receiving $10 million more from ESPN contract, if we're drawing 3 million people and making the playoffs this model works IMO
  19. We're NOT small market, we had a $100 million dollar payroll this year. CRIPES you guys!!!!
  20. The problem with Yop is he can't pitch against the Cardinals and they're one of our biggest rivals. In a 1 game playoff I take Greinke at Miller Park every day of the week
  21. Thank goodness your not our GM, Hart for a prospect. I don't think so. The Brewers should immediately offer him a contract similar to Ramirez. This team isn't far away from contending rebuild the bullpen and get a RF and we're right back in it next year.

  23. It doesn't matter if he's claimed, they wouldn't have to give him up if the claiming team doesn't offer anything they deem of value. It does matter if he's claimed, if he passes through the Brewers can trade him to anybody as opposed to only the claiming team. C'mon man
  24. This is a big deal, if he doesn't get claimed the Brewers could pry a prospect away from someone.
