    Yeah, but not the way I was hoping... Unless Escobar extends, I think this rental is going to be about as bad as the Garrett Cooper dump over the long haul. I think you’re over valuing Cooper. Guy has a career 3.5 war in 5 years, 1.2 of that coming this year. And now he’s out for the rest of the year. Decent player but nothing to fret about. Also is 30 years old.

    Kinda feel bad laughing at it, but couldn't help but do it when they shot off the fireworks for a solo HR in the 7th while down 7 runs. I know you gotta do what you gotta do and we were right there with them in that boat for 20 years so I feel the pain, but that just seemed odd. They probably purchase so many a season and don’t want them to go bad? But I hear what you’re saying. I’m still in awe we finally have leadership that is consistently giving us enjoyable seasons. Wish this could be pinned on every thread. What we are experiencing has never been done in our history. Consistently competitive is a nice change of pace.

    The assumption that Rodgers will continue playing at an MVP level into his 40s is an enormous leap IMO. We really need to stop treating Tom Brady as the norm. I don't think it's a leap honestly. Brady wasn't this stat God until last year. He was looking pretty washed the last few in NE. Rodgers has none of the major injury history of guys like Brees or Manning, and they were still top 10 QBs late in their careers. I just haven't seen any physical erosion at all for Rodgers and he takes great care of himself. The way QBs are protected and advances in sports science, I think it's more likely than not he's great at 40. If he wants to play. Put another way, anyone that has a nerve or labrum injury will tell you that it's 100% coming back to you at some point, or there are certain things that you can never quite do the way you used to. None of that's happened to Rodgers. He broke a couple bones, that is nothing. Every player is one play away from retirement, but even as someone that finds Rodgers beyond annoying, I wouldn't hesitate to sign him to a 3-4 year deal if he said he 100% wanted to play that long. His mobility has diminished a bit, but not so awfully that he can't move, his arm is fine, he's accurate...I just don't see a risk that's substantially greater than any other QB 6 years younger washing out and sucking. Another note for Rodgers that doesn’t get the publicity it should. Is how good he’s had it for an OL his career, especially the last few. Rarely does he get hit and that will keep a man healthy for a long time.

    As much as Yelichs numbers are down. Anyone see Cody Bellingers? His fall from grace has been extreme. One big difference is he’s not signed long term. But man, his fall was hard.

    Rendon 2019: 7.2 WAR. Rendon 2021: Angel Strasburg 2019: 5.8 WAR Strasburg 2021: Hurt/Ineffective Basically the same group minus 13 wins from the top of the roster. If people think Yelich deal is bad. Look at 31 year old Rendon….0.0 war player set to make $38 mil each of the next 5 years. 29 year old Yelich is a 1 war player this year and set to make $26 mil per year for the next 7 seasons. Yelich hasn’t been great. But thankful we aren’t missing as bad as some.

    I don’t quite get the “must get extension” route. The guy is already set to cash in this offseason. Why not allow for more teams to bid for you during the off-season, then just a few (if any) during the season. Could just be agent talk but doesn’t seem plausible. Max would much rather pitch for a playoff team than one who isn’t.

    If the Nationals do indeed sell off some pieces, which usually doesn’t happen, thoughts on some pitching? Scherzer is obviously a tough one and unlikely to be traded. 2 names that come up is Daniel Hudson and Brad Hand. Hudson owed $6 mil this year on final year of contract. Pitching to a 2.54 era in 27 games. Hand owed $10.5 mil this year on final year of contract. Also Pitching to a 2.54 era but in 37 games. Thoughts on these two names? What would it take to get with contract/last year? Either would be a welcome addition to our pen.
