  1. Thanks for your help, everyone. Everything is working great. I'm going to look into getting an antenna to get my local HD channels, and once my provider offers HD I'll look into that. Thanks again for the guidance!
  2. I downloaded some Quick Time MP4 files today at work. When playing them on my work PC (Vista Business) and on my wife's PC (Vista Home), these media files play correctly. However, when I try to play them on my PC (Vista Home) using both DivX and Quick Time's free player, I get stuttering. Sounds like a codec issue, but I'm not sure. Any thoughts?
  3. Posted at 9:10 am on a workday. Sorry, BSCR, maybe you work a different shift, but I just found that to be kind of funny. That's ok, since you don't really know about my work schedule or what my job entails, I can see how you'd think that is funny.
  4. While Gallardo did make the majors at 21, I don't think it's fair to put Jeffress on the same timeline. Gallardo played at each level in the system except R+ from 2004 thru the first part of 2007. In his trek from R to AAA, Gallardo compiled 380 minor league innings (not including the 15 he thru this year), including about 140 at AA and AAA. Outside of his short stint in Beloit in 2004, he dominated each and every level. Jeffress has been pretty impressive, especially this season after missing time for his suspension. He has, however, not been nearly as dominant as Gallardo was. He's also pitched about 170 fewer innings than Yo, and only 15 of his 213 minor league innings have been at AA. I wouldn't be at all surprised if the Brewers started Jeffress in Huntsville next year. I'd be equally unsurprised to see him start next year in Nashville he spends time in and does well in the AFL. But I'd be stunned if he were in Milwaukee before next June or July.
  5. Isn't another way of asking this question: At your job, does your work and your colleagues' work quality go down when moral is low? Or, better than that: At your job, does your work and your colleagues' work quality go down when moral is low to the point you are doing a poor job? In my experience, co-workers who's job performance fluctuates wildly have other issues besides workplace chemistry. Whether it's a lack of ability, training, commitment, etc. I'm lucky in that I work for a company currently is full of employees who's job performance isn't greatly affected by moral and chemistry or mood. If someone deals with a cranky customer that puts everyone in a bad mood, work still gets done at a high quality and in a timely manner. It is undoubtedly less fun and more "work", but we still do our jobs to the best of our ability because that's what we get paid to do regardless of the mood. We all are proud of our own work and proud of our collective work. As Russ and others have said, no one is denying that moral or chemistry or whatever you want to call it has an affect. But the fact that teams never have "bad chemistry" when they are winning, and my own personal workplace experiences with good and bad moral, lead me to believe most people completely overrate it.
  6. While I'd never go so far as to say team chemistry doesn't matter at all, I'm not sure how much good chemistry really helps. And I think, in general, how much chemistry affects a teams performance is often overblown. I don't want the Brewers to be a team of jerks and criminals, as I think terrible chemistry can be detrimental to a teams performance. That said, I'd rather have guys with talent that don't get along than guys I'd like my daughter to marry that aren't as talented. You've got to start with good raw materials, as good chemistry won't add velocity to a fast ball, or make a player faster, or improve their strike zone management, etc. In that regard, chemistry is a bonus rather than a basic requirement for having a good team. I'm not saying that enjoying who you play with isn't a good thing, or that wanting to come to work because you have teammates you like isn't a good thing. But there are plenty of examples of teams winning "in spite of" poor chemistry, and since chemistry won't add velocity to a fast ball, or bit to a slider, or improve your eye at the plate, or make you run faster, I'm not sure how much of an affect it really does have.
  7. I just created both teams on What If Sports and it came out with the Dream Team winning 6 games of the 10. I used the season's leading up to the olympics for the ranking and for laettner, i had to use the 92-93 version since he was in college the year before I never thought of that (thank goodness- I'd never get anything done today!). Do you know if WhatIfSports adds a home court advantage at all to their sims? Six out of 10 sounded a bit low at first, but I got to thinking about how it would be if you were to play 82-games. Over a full NBA season, that would be 49-33, which considering the competition is pretty darn good.
  8. I ran home for lunch and re-configured my 360, so now that runs in 780p. I've got an S-Video cable that I'll try tonight with my cable. I don't expect to get 780p-quality, but I hope to get better than the picture I have now. I'm also looking forward to scanning for over-the-air HD. In talking to some guys at work, it sounds like I should get that no problem. I'll keep you posted, and thanks for the help!
  9. One thing that jumps out at me when comparing the '92 and '08 teams is the '92 teams average assists per game (something like 22 assist per game to 12). They were so good at sharing the basketball; everyone knew they could pass up a good shot for a better shot because they'd be the beneficiary of that later in the game. When a team is that talented offensively and that unselfish, they are going to be hard to beat.
  10. Thanks for the recommendations. I'm a bit more excited again to have the TV. I'll let you know how things went tonight after I have had a chance to play with things. EDIT: End, it's a 360- I guess I forgot they even made a "regular" XBOX.
  11. Greetings! My mother purchased us an HDTV for our anniversary. It is a SANSUI 26" 16:9 8ms 720p LCD HDTV HDLCD2600. She has the same model and it looks good hooked up to her digital, non-HD cable. So, while it doesn't look as good as HDTV, it's way better than a regular tube TV, and way, way better than our TV at home, so I was pretty excited. I got mine home Saturday night and hooked it up to our digital, non-HD cable and my XBOX. Because I wasn't expecting to get the TV, I only had coaxial cable to hookup my cable to the TV. I used the component connector to get the XBOX hooked up to the TV. When I turn the TV on, it is in 480i rather than 720p. Our cable in some ways looks worse than it did before, and my XBOX, while it looks better than it did, still doesn't look as sharp as others I have seen. I've gone thru the manual to see if there is a setting I need to change to get 720p and the only reference I see to 720p relates to using HDMI to connect your cable to the TV. It's important to understand, too, that I know next to nothing about HDTV and HDTV service. From what little I do know, 720p should be find for me because I don't own a PS3, Blue-Ray or HD-DVD player. And, when the time does come to get HDTV service, most channels are broadcast in 720p anyways. That is pretty much the extent of what I know. So, now for the questions! 1. Should I be able to set my TV to 720p to correct some of the issues I am having? I understand because I don't have HDTV service that I won't get thru HD while watching TV, but it doesn't look as good as my mom's does. 2. How much does my choice of cabling affect my picture quality? Should I look at S-Video or Component to connect my cable-TV? And what about the XBOX? A friend of mine uses an HDMI connection from his XBOX to his TV and it looks great. I don't want to spend the money on that, however, until I can either get my TV to run in 720p or I know that my lack of such a cable is why my XOBX isn't as sharp as it could be. 3. Is there anything else I should know that I don't? Thanks!
  12. K/9and BB/9 are important, but I'm just as partial to K:BB ratio. K:BB ratio highlights pitchers like Maddux and Moyer and sinker types that may not get a hug number of K's but are quite successful for a long time. Maddux averages around 6K/9IP, but his K:BB ratio is an excellent 3.4:1. I prefer using K/9 and BB/9 rather than K:BB because those raw numbers tell you more than a simple ratio. I can't tell the difference between two guys who have a 3:1 K:BB simply by looking at that number. But I can tell the different between a 9K/3BB and a 4.5K/1.5BB guy.
  13. Greetings! I'm looking for computer animated tornado and lightning media files online. I'm looking for computer-generate animation like this as opposed to actual footage. I've used google to find some, but I wonder if there are others that I haven't found that BF.net users might have come across. Thanks!
  14. Thanks for the article BSCR. It is an interesting read, but seems pretty flawed to me. It is comparing apples and oranges. It is comparing offensive team strikeout totals and individual pitching strikeout totals. I think a better comparison would be the teams' pitching K totals related to team ERA. While that comparison might be useful, I suspect the overall findings would remain the same. Pitchers and teams that strike out hitters are successful at preventing teams from scoring runs, while pitchers and teams that strike out fewer hitters are less successful. Hitters and teams that strike out a lot can be good, average and bad offensively, because simply measuring how many times they strike out doesn't correlate to how many runs they create/score.
  15. Here is an article explaining why K's aren't so important for hitters but are for pitchers. Baseball Prospectus Basics - Just Another Out?
  16. There are really two issues here. The first is whether or not spitting the shells was a problem, which I think most would agree is a problem. The second is how the ushers handled the situation. If the usher(s) didn't handle the situation appropriately, you are not off-base complaining about it, regardless of whether or not what you were doing with the shells was wrong. The usher's job is to ensure that fans follow the rules and make sure that they have an enjoyable experience at the park and they take appropriate actions to ensure an enjoyable experience for all. Threatening you with a police ejection is a bit over-the-top and probably falls into "inappropriate actions". If you decide to make some sort of complaint, I suggest very strongly that you freely admit that spitting the shells was a bad idea, and that you fully agree with both ushers not wanting you to do that, and that your complaint against the second usher is strictly based on the unprofessional and threatening manner in which he handled the situation. Personally, I wouldn't complain, as I'd doubt it would accomplish all that much, but I think you'd have grounds for doing so.
  17. Congratulations on finding your job! And good luck with your move this weekend. When you coach cross country this fall, I suggest you tell the kids to run faster then the other kids. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Seriously, good luck with the job and coaching.
  18. I did this with my last PC when I decided I wanted to use a hard drive to store complete images of my PC rather than just backups. I got a faster, larger capacity drive as my primary drive and used the existing drive to store the images, which was a lot handier than a regular backup. I'm not sure what your budget is like, or how your PC specs out, but this idea has a lot of advantages to it, wimping out aside. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  19. My top five, since we seem to be going that, would be, in no particular order: Hart Hardy Gallardo Weeks Sarfate... wait, Braun
  20. I'm not trying to be a jerk here.....but honestly why is weeks on so many peoples favorite list? He doesn't do anything well....he makes my eyes bleed. Again.....it's all personal preference, just curious as to why people like to "watch" Weeks. I think those of us who watched him as he moved thru the minors saw things that haven't come out, or haven't come out consistently, since he's been in Milwaukee. I saw Weeks play probably 20 games before he got to Milwaukee, and at each stop he was a man among boys. Even when he played in Huntsville and struggled, you could tell he had all the tools to be a successful major league player. And while he was in Nashville, one could argue he was better than Fielder was at the time. Obviously things haven't gone as well for Weeks here in Milwaukee. But I still have hopes that he'll turn into the player I saw in the minors.
  21. Let's please keep the posts in this thread on topic: the Helena Ryan Braun Bobblehead. Anyone with any issues related to specific posters (in particular issues related to non-BF.net postings) should use e-mail or Yuku's private message feature to discuss those things, not this thread. Thanks
  22. I think a sub-forum in here for tickets would be fine. However i don't think it's that big a deal. There aren't THAT many new posts everyday(i can see up to 4 days back on the first page). I think that's the key. If we can see four days worth of threads at one time, I can't imagine that too many tickets are not being sold or bought because they are mingled in with other memorabilia. And if they are off the first page of the forum, more than likely they aren't available anymore.
  23. Odd that Jim would be so positive about his return in September when just a few days ago (I think Sunday) Davey Nelson reported that Gallardo felt he had almost no chance of returning this year in any role. So, even tho what Jim Powell says is good news, I'm going to temper it with what Nelson reported last weekend. If it happens, I'll consider it unexpected good news. If it doesn't, it's what I was expecting.
  24. While youth baseball and Major League Baseball are only related because it's baseball, I think anyone who has spent time around the game knows it's harder to manage the kids than the game. In helping coach my son's U-14 team this summer, managing line-ups and pitching staffs has been a breeze. Getting the LFer to play LF because he's not a shortstop, or convincing a kid hitting 9th that its nothing personal, or convincing the kid who can't throw strikes he shouldn't ask to pitch is way more challenging. I suspect Major League managers, the successful ones, are more managers of people with baseball knowledge than baseball guys without people skills. Could I do it? Maybe, but I doubt it. Would I want to? No way.
