  1. Imagine the price of their DL in September... While Wood and Prior were cost-efficient adds to the DL, DLee's imminent return to the DL, compounded by complications to ARam's recent strains, and Zambrano is liable to contract ulcers with his meltdowns... I'm just saying KFC Jr. is not worth worrying about if the Cubbies add him. The gent is aided at present by The Great American Launching Pad. And just imagine the guy running headfirst into the Ivy... As the Onion opined some 2 weeks ago, All of America Wishes It Were Jr. Griffey... It's debateable who ruined a greater HOF career, A-Rod or Jr. Griffey... One knew no limits, one's wallet knew no limits, though I probably wouldn't say the same thing if he donned the Sox's stripes as opposed to the pins of NY.
  2. Which team would have the most interest in Cappy at the deadline this year? The Mets obviously come to mind. The Yanks??? I think we can all agree on the player that the 'stache should be asking for if he has to deal with the Evil Empire, though the DL'ed One in even more untouchable now than he was this past offseason. Then again, going back to the NL East, imagine the 'stache playing the Phils, the Mets, the Braves, and the Fish off eachother... All four have good farm systems with mineable nuggets.
  3. Despite Gordon's struggles, there is still a bust awaiting the young 'Husker in Cooperstown, the same as there was some 3 months ago. He's outdone George Brett's rookie season thus far and he hasn't proven to be Miguel Cabrera-defensively-at the hot corner. Then again, I also don't see him ever getting 35HR. As for Butler, I just think his bat is going to become Dunn-like in power, and he'll actually keep a .300 average.
  4. I think he works best in the "Roger Dorn-Take one for the team"-role he played sporatically for us. Unfortunately, he taught his craft to Rickie and he is unneeded (but "unfortunately" because Rickie is the last person on the team, given his history, to take the HBP that he mastered in the minors).
  5. What are the chances we don't see D-Lee because of the suspension? I know he appealled it, but I'm just curious because it definitely would help our cause not to see the doubles machine who masquerades as their HR hitter.
  6. Next year's Tony Graffanino....
  7. I'm sure he'll get some token starts in left, to spell Shealy on the DH, and then he gets eligibility. Good times.
  8. Turnbow could step into the closer role next year, and we still have Wise and Villy (if he's not thrust into a rotation spot). And we could use a bit of improvement in an outfield spot (Hall and Hart are set) and at catcher. And with the inevitable contracts about to be doled out to our stud infield (which I know is un-needed, as they still are not arby-eligible), I would assume that it isn't the worst idea to find some economically-aesthetically pleasing contracts (read, pre-arby-eligible) pieces.
  9. Get a game-worn Salome jersey....if you're 5'7" and built like the trunk of a sequoia.
  10. Kind of off subject but does he immediately surpass the Grand Salome on our org.'s future depth chart at catcher? Whenever I am asked what my ideal catching prospect is, I take no time in exclaiming that it would be a short, young gent with a howitzer arm, who DH's on his days off. Kind of a Salome fan....
  11. Does Texas really need to be rolling the dice with young pitchers? I understand that their dreams of DVD fell apart, as one piece of said combo was shipped for Brandon McCarthy, but I just don't see them attempting to acquire more unproven pitching quantities, even if it is decent quality. And while we may value Otsuka as a quality set-up man, it would seem to be a foregone conclusion that other organizations would have a higher value on the gent, as he could easily be slipped into their closer's role while we don't have that necessity.
  12. Why not attempt to trade Gordon for Billy Butler? Butler has always been young for his league and while his cup of coffee was a bit stale, he still projects to become a middle of the order bat for a young team in the near future (though the team is considered a cellar dweller in a very competitive division, however the same was probably said about Prince or Rickie 2-3 years ago).
  13. What about Taylor Tankersley? He's young, left-handed, and the Marlins have a glaring need in center. Could we develop a package with Jr. Gwynny?
  14. Meredith may be asking a bit much, but I could see Heath Bell's name being bandied about. The gent that every sportswriter continues to throw out there is Scott Linebrink, though it would definitely weaken their biggest strength to lose their top set-up guy. However, with Jr. Gwynny's ticket to Nashville punched, I would think that Gabe Gross is the more likely trade candidate, or perhaps, I HOPE he is the more likely candidate.
  15. I have long esposed that the best course of action would be to trade the Econ major from Duke. The fact that we have not one, but two young pitching phenoms who could start in a pinch (Yo and Villy) only compounds the tradeability of our former All-Star. The argument that we would have no left-handed starter in our rotation is novel, at best. And if I had to choose between Big Ben and Cappy, Big Ben wins 8 days a week. If I'm the Brews, I'm on the phone with Atlanta for McCann, even if he is damaged goods right now, as it would be quite funny to see Johnny Estrada twice pushed out by the young power hitter. Beyond McCann, I could see young Cappy traded to the D-Rays for Reyes and Baldelli (another piece of damaged goods who lately has been living off his reputation, but is still younger than the gent he is to be traded for). Another good possibility for a trade for Cappy would be our main rival for the NL Pennant, the Mets (as I think the NL West will ultimately wear their cronies down). I could see a package of Martinez and Heilman/Humber, though they may be more inclined to include Gomez, which is like being given the choice between shrimp and scallops. No matter what the haul, I think it best to get a young blue chip position player, as our rotation, as I stated earlier, is at max capacity and within the next two years, should only get more crowded with the ascension of my favorite prospect, Billy Inman.
  16. The Cubs pitching, as of late, has been their Achilles. While Zambrano has finally woken up, the rest of their rotation has faltered since Hill (who is still decent, but not the Cy some were predicting...though I was not that prognosticator), Marquis, and Lilly began the year imitating Avery/Glavine/Maddux. I would say that of all the teams, the Jints scare me the most. Bonds' bat has begun to show signs of Dr. Frankenstein's work again, their defense is solid as always, and that rotation (even without seeing Cain) is one of the top three in baseball, though I give a good chuckle at the idea of our bats feasting on 80mph fastballs from the biggest pitching contract in baseball (Prince especially.... Lefty matchups are Thanksgiving for the Regal One). Truth be told, as I said before, Lowry is the pitcher who scares me the most, but we're throwing a greenhorn at him and we all know how greenhorns fare at Miller (albeit usually AGAINST us...).
  17. Bullpen help... What about Brad Lidge?? I have a hard time forgetting when he was the 7th AND 8th inning bridge to Billy Wagner. However, it is a trade within the division, though Aramis Ramirez can attest that such trades do happen. Scott Linebrink would be a worthy addition, as well. But the darkhorse "need" would be a young catcher...and there is one such player available at present, though I prefer his counterpart. However, either one would suffice (and ironically force out Estrada for the second time in his career). The Salty One or Big Bat McCann....get it done 'Stache!
  18. Is it wrong of me to expect 12-7? I remember I expected a 7-3 homestand when we went 9-1... And for all intents and purposes, this homestand would seem to mirror that one (outside of 9 games as opposed to 10). But moreover, the only team that is scary is the geriatrics by the Bay. But it would seem that we have the favorable pitching match-ups (though the Yo v Lowry match-up is the wildcard). So I'm saying 12-7. We play the Cubs better at Miller South than Wrigley North.
  19. If you're going to throw Jr. Gwynny into the mix, and ask for bullpen help, then the most likely target would be the Fathers (or father if you want to go by his pops' org.) on the West coast, though they might be reluctant to trade from a position of strength while fighting off the Dodgy Fellows and the Snakes of the Desert. Perhaps if we also traded them Zach Jack with the young heir, we could perhaps procure a Bell of Heath or, with a bit of help from CV the Elder and the lithe speedster, receive in trade a Line of Brink.
  20. It may simply be that they're trying to cultivate a third pitch (or even further develop his breaking ball if that seems to be his K pitch). Lower level minor league numbers are less indicative of success than simply seeing him dominate his older peers.
  21. Power AND average...definitely the top 2.
  22. I said it before and I'll say it again. Chris Capuano would be the ideal trade chip at the deadline. Unfortunately, he's hurting his stock by lounging around the friendly confines of the hot tub.
  23. What is Al Reyes' value right now? For all intents and purposes, he's a top five closer in terms of ERA and Saves/Save Op's. Remember that there was a gent named Dan Kolb who elicited the top pitching prospect (unless you are a huge Dan Meyer fan) in a stacked org.
  24. Crawford is not a good centerfielder. Gwynn would be a good idea in the middle, with Carl in left, but even then, we're selling low on Hall. And why would the Tigers trade their top position prospect for a FA corner outfielder (which they don't need)?
  25. Otsuka cost them Chris Young and Adrian Gonzalez....and they had to take Adam Eaton. I think, unless the PTBNL is Jeffress or LaPorta, you're not going to get the guy. For all intents and purposes, he is their closer next year.
