  1. Pat Neshek and Jason Kubel for Mench and Jeremy Jeffress? The Twins were interested in Mench, supposedly, last year, and Kubel and Neshek are very good, young players who would add value to this team, though at the cost of last year's first round draft pick. I understand that Jeffress could become a dominating closer or even, if he ever develops a good feel for a breaking pitch, a pseudo-ace. But lookign at Neshek's numbers makes me drool, and Kubel is just now coming into his own and would profile to be a good corner outfielder in the next few years to team with Corey, Billy, and Tony.
  2. I would imagine the reason they don't have much interest in resigning Jermaine Dye is because they have Ryan Sweeney waiting in the wings for next year....or Jerry Owens.....or Josh Fields if they end up keeping Joe Crede. Thus, outfielders are far from a necessity for the ChiSox.
  3. I would compare Cabrera's athleticism to Pujols'. They both came up as 3B (though so did the Horse, and I wouldn't put him in the same breath as Prince Albert). But while I have long been enamored with Cabrera, and to imagine adding that bat to this lineup would make me overly giddy. But I long ago accepted that Jeffrey Loria may be cheap, but he wouldn't trade away the best young hitter in baseball.
  4. Would Gagne even be amenable to being a set-up guy? I believed he only signed on with the Rangers to showcase his wares as a closer.
  5. What about Adam Dunn? He is the epitome of a 3TO performer, though I would prefer Lance Berkman. Personally, I look at those numbers and I think the big-headed Bonds. What I don't get is how people think he is going to be trade fodder at next year's deadline. Theoretically, it could happen without being a PTBNL since August 15 is past the trade deadline for next year, but it would seem that he would make Gross or Mench expendable next year. But no matter. I'm just happy that we got this year's Ryan Braun. Does no one remember when we drafted the ACC Freshman of the Year, but it was considered a reach? Complaints? Anyone?
  6. (cough) Armando Benitez.... (CRY!!!!!)
  7. I would complain about the Tigers drafting all these "Pocketbook Warriors" but then I think of how much Matt White and Travis Lee ruined the D-Rays...and I smile.
  8. So I take it that you won't endorse a trade for Brett Myers? And I have to imagine having Prince and Billy in the locker room would definitely help, as I can't think of any steadying figures in the D-Ray's locker room.
  9. I would rather pay Ben than Coco. And what good is a $14mil closer if you don't have the prerequisite offensive players (ie, Prince, JJ, Rickie) to build the lead for your close to protect?
  10. An SC grad sitting down a gent from The U, and lecturing him about being cocky? Sounds like the pot calling the kettle black.
  11. His life counselor, Randy Moss???
  12. I agree with every poster except for the gent who believes that he wouldn't have the highest ceiling of any outfielder on the team. IF he were to reach his vast potential, he could be a HOF talent. He's young, built like a linebacker, and has the speed of a wide receiver. And given what the Reds have been able to do with Josh Hamilton (another OF prospect from that ill-fated org.), he could be a worthwhile reclamation project. I always thought the best way to describe him was, "The guy could be Albert Belle...with speed!" Funny on so many levels...
  13. Aggressive bulldog! Keep him away from Mike and Marcus' pad in Atlanta.
  14. I still say that we should make a run at McCann. Yo for McCann would be a solid deal, as McCann just signed an extention this past offseason that keeps him the team's property for 5 years, I believe. Much like when Estrada was traded to make way for McCann, McCann could be traded to make way for the Salty One.
  15. Not that they are valuable, but I would imagine they are dangling Jones and Prior, as well.
  16. Did anyone think Andrew Miller would fall last year to the Detroit Tigers? Wieters could fall to us, and given that we don't have another pick in the top 100, it could very well be our lucky day. However, I think the Cubs could very well pounce, though they are perma-linked to Vitters. But what are the chances Vitters falls to us? Or Porcello? Which is more likely?
  17. Could we get McCann for Yo? Because that would get me thinking very hard...
  18. I guess I'll take it as a compliment to our lineup that a potential 30/30 stud is relegated to the 8-hole. "Corey, JJ wasn't too good for it last year...."
  19. Hart in the 8 hole? Seriously, is he banging Yost's daughter? Inquiring minds want to know!
  20. That's what I meant. I am of the assumption that Yo needs to prove himself at the ML-level before he is going to garner true blockbuster trades. That said, the only player I could see the Brews using Yo to obtain would be Miggy Cabrera....or Brian McCann.
  21. I'm passing. Yo could end up being better than most could imagine. Let's wait and see what we get back on our 2nd round investment.
  22. I have to admit that I have always been the type to explore the boundaries and act as devil's advocate in most respects, but Brian's direction of this site has always been fair, consistent, and pleasant. We are a community, and as such, I appreciate that we treat eachother fairly....unless a hapless North-sider decides to descend upon our community. Then, it's Scorched Earth policy!
  23. That's exactly what I'm saying. Jack Z. doesn't get caught up in the latest trends. He is far from a fashionista. He is a Man for All Seasons. He is....Canadian.
  24. Didn't Ned say something the other day about how Bush pitches poorly out of the stretch, which doesn't translate well to the 'pen? And if any of our arms have a good amount of value in trade, it's Capuano.
  25. I meant in his prime, if only because he's such a cerebral pitcher with a good repertoire of pitches. When he dons knee-highs like Bush, then I'll give the Oswalt comp. credence.
