  1. What's funny about that statement is that last year around this time, we had Rogers and Yo k'ing all those in their way, though it was obvious Rogers needed to cut down greatly with the walks Nuke LaLoosh-style.
  2. One statement would have sufficed for the guy: Best Player Available, no matter need. That's why this year's draft excites me. All the talk that this year, we may break the mold and go with a college reliever who moves fast is like saying Jack Z was going to take a high OBP machine after reading "Moneyball." I like Aumont, though.
  3. And the comp. I continue to hear is Tom Glavine. Hefty praise, espeically considering Glavine flourished under another Maddux.
  4. (cough) Ryan Wagner (cough) I got something red in my throat. Well, at least I wiped it on a National.
  5. Why are we importing another Joe Smith to Milwaukee? Didn't we learn our lesson the first time?
  6. Vargas has value, much like any arm at the deadline that has logged innings. Is he going to garner a good amount in trade alone? Probably not. But he could be packaged with an outfielder (the Grench!) and Tony Graffanino. If speculation over Dougie's moves have taught us nothing, it is that the 'stache surprises. Love it. Fear it. Know it. As for Bush, it is the epitome of selling low if he is traded. Let the bulldog pitch.
  7. I want no piece of Melky. He seems to be a product of the hype in NY. I remember when he was situated on the Yankees' prospect lists right behind Dioner Navarro... Yeah...
  8. Didn't the Yanks just give up a bunch of low-A prospects for the guy? I would imagine he could be had cheaply if Cashman decides to move him, but there isn't a glaring need to make a move for the Yanks, especially with the message it would send. Perhaps, if they fall further and further, they might become sellers at the deadline, and if so, Bobby will be like last year's Easter candy....discounted on clearance. But right now, I would think the Cash man would avoid any moves that might give him next year off.
  9. I say we wait until the break and see which contender is in need of a reliable back-end rotation horse. THere is always a market for decent pitching, especially when that decent pitching becomes good pitching for lack of good pitching.
  10. As many people pointed out at the time, the Padres were ready to pounce on Jr. Gwynny in the draft before we swooped in, so there would seem to be a good maount of interest, as he has fulfilled a good amount of the promise he has.
  11. Eric Byrnes is Brady Clark, mixed with Gabe Gross. No gracias!
  12. What's interesting about Jonny Broxton is that when he was coming up in the minors, there were only two "relief prospects" in the minors (Joel Zumaya was still thought of as a starter), Jonny Broxton and Jose Capellan, with Latin Cappy getting slightly more fanfare because of his parent club at the time, the Braves. Oh, how the star has faded...
  13. Let the guy have a mulligan while he basks in the glow of freedom.
  14. Ichiro's biggest value doesn't even come on the baseball field; it comes from the small island in the Pacific that is enamored with our culture. And Milwaukee, unfortunately, would have a very difficult time harnessing the luxuries associated with the aged speedster.
  15. Morgan Ensberg is available, even moreso than this past offseason. Chad Cordero seems to be available too, as he is to the Nats what Danny Kolb was to the Brewz, a luxury we can ill-afford. Andruw Jones and Torii Hunter are in their final years, but being fan favorites on contenders, they are very unlikely to be moved. Also, if you need an outfielder, the Rays are your one-stop shopping center, if you have the credit. And the players everyone wants but most in-the-knows deny will be moved are A-Rod and Miggy Cabrera, though Tejada could become available (but would he move off shortstop to third to accomodate the JJ...).
  16. I have to think that any type of trade offer would have to outweigh the bounty the Braves gave up for Mike Gonzalez... That said, we could make it a bigger deal, where perhaps it is like..... Both Cappies/Hart/Villy for Young and Reyes
  17. I find it hard to believe that Jr. Griffey would sign off on a trade to the Brewz, but if he would, I can't imagine that the bounty for him would be his weight in gold...or green. More than likely, they'd be lucky to get his weight in feces if he were traded to an NL team with his injury history.
  18. Clayton is actually the property of their neighbors, the Dodgy Fellows. But the Dodgers are also in possession of quite the bevy of prospects. Imagine Sexy Broxy/Kershaw/Billingsley for Sheets. I would take that deal 8 days a week.
  19. I would opine that of all the "non-closer" young relievers in baseball, the top three most untouchable are.... 1. Jonny Broxton 2. Pat Neshek 3. Latin Cappy But seriously, Neshek would be the perfect acquisition for the Brewz right now.
  20. Zach Jack/Gross/Graffy/Latin Cappy or Cap'n Lou... for Melvin Mora/PTBNL (Jason Berken) I Like It! They have long seemed to be done with Mora, and they seem to be building for next year, much like their contemporaries across the river, the Nats.
  21. I'm a bigger fan of Inman than most I would imagine. Thus, the gent, in my view, should be given the moniker of UNTOUCHABLE...even moreso than YoGa if you take into account that most teams would view YoGa exponentially more valuable given his K rates and his proximity to the Show. Greinke...you're not getting Billy the Kid. Chad Cordero....I still don't trade Inman. I might be willing to include him if we could get Harden, or Dontrelle/Miggy (read OR Miggy, in case someone understands me to believe there is any package imagineable...INCLUDING YoGa AND Braun...for that duo). That said, the two best acquisitions for this current team are both at AAA.
  22. BTW-Greinke is spelled wrong in the title.
  23. I never said Yo would pitch out of the 'pen; what I said was that Greinke and Villy would be pitching out of the 'pen, but could easily slide into the rotation if any of their cronies faltered. Furthermore, we go even deeper with YoGa waiting in AAA...to ascend to the Brew's rotation. As for Dayton Moore's asking price, while I would say it would be more than Gross, it couldn't be Inman-level, as he is considered to be one of the top 10 A-ball prospects in baseball and Greinke is going to be arguing arbitration fairly soon, negating a bit of value to a low budget team, like the KC Chiefs...err Royals.
  24. I say we go Andrew Miller/Joe Smith with him and see if he can swim in the big leagues. What's the worst that could happen.... (cough...Greinke....cough)
  25. Jr. Griffey...Jr. Gwynny. Jr. Gwynny....Jr. Griffey. Prince....Jr. Jr.....Prince. I think we need to get more cameras for the interactions if this happens. Nepotism can only get you so far...
