  1. Next time you hang with those guys bring a bag of butterscotch hard candies and hand them out. Really sell that grandpa thing!
  2. I had my own nickname for Ricky back in the day. I called him Ricky "Home Run" Bones. Because his last name was pronounced "bonus". Every hitter was a home run threat against him. There wasn't even any venom in that nickname, why would I be angry or angsty about the Brewers being bad, they were always bad. It was status quo. I still can't believe he made an All Star team. How bad must the Brewers have sucked that year for him to be their representative? I just looked, they were pretty bad (1994). Greg Vaughn or Kevin Seitzer would have been better choices, or if it had to be a pitcher, Mike Fetters. Glanced at the final standings in 1994, Texas was leading their division despite being 10 games below .500 sheesh. The AL Central 5th place Brewers would have been in 1st place in that division by a half game. Good times.
  3. Yes. I can believe it. You know what else? They're 100% right.
  4. I got my plates in the mail Friday, so about 5 weeks from the time I mailed in my application.
  5. Pretty much the exact thoughts of nearly everyone that's watched the show. I want to say there have even been times I missed Joffery. Almost missed him anyway. Ramsay is a fun villain though, at least there's that.
  6. That goal by Rose Lavelle was incredible in that she took it from near midfield all on her own and split the defense nearly perfectly to set up her own shot. I feel like that's a real rarity in soccer, a lot of scoring comes off a series of well timed passes. She basically took it on her own and dunked on the defense like Giannis would.
  7. Nice! Glad I have that to look forward to yet. On season 6 of GoT and the hits just keep coming! lol I so missed the boat on this show all these years... What episode are you on? Season 6 is my favorite. Last two episodes of that season are probably the best television I've ever watched. Episode 9 is so well done, choreographed, filmed, tense, gut wrenching, mind blowing. When it ends you think, how could any episode ever top that? And yeah, you missed out. Theories, cliffhangers, watching each new episode a couple of times to really soak everything in before the next Sunday. General talking with friends that are also watching. But you didn't miss out on waiting for long, long stretches between seasons especially towards the end.
  8. What I meant by far short was that the team ends up so crappy that Hiura being up those 3 weeks won't matter anyway, I didn't have any specific number in mind. But yeah if Hiura kept doing what he was doing, and he sort of did albeit in AAA, I think it could have meant a couple of games and that matters and might keep them from the playoffs. You may disagree with this but there is little doubt to me that he would not have been sent down and would have made most of those starts if Super 2 were not in play. What would have happened we can't know of course but my post was about whether the Brewers were right to send him down, that money could be a big deal a few years from now. Yes, if mine was a typical comment that has been bothering you I think you are probably reading a little too much into them. Am I really excited about this kids bat and maybe even have a little too high expectations of him? Of course. I am a Brewer fan, it's what I do. That's fair, I'm not against rational thinking. I wouldn't have sent him down had it been up to me, super 2 wasn't a good enough reason. Compounded with what appeared to be Hiura's bat starting to get hot right around then too. He could have made a difference in a couple of games. I did think the team was going to be fine without him though, the schedule seemed to be in the Brewers favor, maybe that messed with some players heads and they relaxed. Things went south quickly.
  9. Careful, this comes dangerously close to suggesting that Hiura all by himself keeps the Brewers from suffering this tough stretch and I've been assured by those who know better that nobody thinks that. You got THAT out of my post? Geezuz I said I think it was a bad decision to send him down and I guess that is like saying he is the next Fred Lynn. Depends what your definition of "far short" of the playoffs is. But you're clearly saying that decision might keep them from making the playoffs. I'd give 1 or 2 games in that scenario but not much more. And my point about fans expecting him to play at an MVP level means having to be so good he does make that kind of a difference in such a short timeframe. To swing around 3 to 5 games from losses to wins. It sounds ridiculous to me just typing that out. Is my logic that flawed that that's how I view these types of comments?
  10. Not me, I am like an elephant. It could prove to be the right move if the brewers still make the playoffs or fall far short. But as of now the decision looks pretty bad, I think they gambled with the weak schedule and got burned. Careful, this comes dangerously close to suggesting that Hiura all by himself keeps the Brewers from suffering this tough stretch and I've been assured by those who know better that nobody thinks that.
  11. I reeeeaaaalllly thought the last quote would be the true indicator of what that post was. I fell for it and I feel like I usually have a good eye for that stuff.
  12. Edit: Removed after misunderstanding what was quoted.
  13. Has anyone actually been acting like Hiura is going to instantly perform like an MVP or be the next Babe Ruth, or is that just some kind of embellishment that has taken on a life of its own? I doubt a single person has indicated that anything close to those two things is realistic. What is realistic? It's probably realistic that Hiura can come in and post an .850 or so OPS at this level, hit with good power and replace the bat of Perez against LHP in the lineup. Which is a pretty large upgrade over the production we were getting from Shaw/Perez. That's what matters. Just because Hiura isn't going to fix every problem on the team doesn't mean you don't let him come in and fix one that he likely can. Plenty of fans have been acting this way in their posts. This site isn't the only place baseball fans express opinions. And yes I think he is capable of doing those things. But he still has to do it. Everything else is just crossed fingers. Also, the Shaw/Perez stuff isn't a factor. I have been an advocate for Hiura's call up too. It's the over the top stuff that is the point of my post. And honestly, the blowback I get for merely suggesting he might not be amazing right away I feel kind of proves the point. How are we all feeling about Corbin Burnes these days? I know we don't hate him but is he as untouchable in a trade in fans minds as he was after last season?
  14. You're talking about a rookie with the same prospect pedigree of a Kris Bryant, Ronald Acuna, Cody Bellinger, etc. If Hiura was a Yankee or a Cub, he'd have been a top 5 prospect for months...the primary reason he isn't is we're small market and his mediocre defense. His bat grades out right up there with those guys when they were prospects, maybe even better. I'd consider it an overreaction if people were acting this way about us not calling up Freitas over Pina to be backup catcher. Swapping Shaw and Hiura makes the team so much better, especially considering Hiura is probably more likely than not to be a star. Hiura should be in the top 5 of the lineup tonight and every night until/unless he cools off. That's all wonderful. He still has to actually do it first. People acting like it's a guarantee that he will instantly perform at a MVP level bother me. Is it possible? Yes, it's happened before, it will happen again. Is it likely? I think history would say it's not likely, and that doesn't mean he's not going to have a successful rookie season. There's a difference between being successful and being a baseball god right out of the gate.
  15. This is absolutely true. A few years ago the vending machines at my company were updated so that you could use an app on your phone to make purchases instead of having to use cash. My spending definitely went up. Part of that is the new machines are not physically labeled with the prices of the items anymore. You have to tap the code of the item in before inserting your money and the machine will display how much it is. So you get used to the item you usually buy, say a can of soda, being a certain price, but the vending company can change the price via computer and you have no idea if the price changed unless you tap the code in first to check the price every single time. Which nearly every human being will fail to do if they're in the habit of buying the same item every day. A can of soda has raised in price from .65 to .80 in maybe around two years. The bottled sodas even more, plus they keep shrinking the bottle, 20 oz bottles are now 16.9 oz but the price sure didn't go down. Pretty good scam yet I still buy from them so I'm the sucker.
  16. Season 4 episode 2, big episode. One of my favorite things about that episode is how much it affects everything to come, especially in the rest of season 4 but really its effects are still felt for seasons afterwards.
  17. This isn't a computer game and these aren't robots. Sending Hiura down was akin to tapping the breaks on a race car. It's like the play the other night when after taking the lead on Grandal's dramatic 7th inning HR, they failed to turn a sure out into an out when various players didn't take charge on a popup. It wasn't that they gave an extra out which is bad enough, but it erased the good feeling after just taking the lead. Two days before he was sent down, Hiura had won an emotional game with a huge home run. That's the kind of win that teams turn into winning streaks. Timing is everything in sports. Players know better than anyone, sometimes including management, who belongs on the field. The rest of the team saw Hiura going down as an extra burden on them. Oh you've talked to the rest of the team? Boy Hiura must have made himself the undisputed leader of the team awful fast to have such an effect by his absence. Yelich means nothing I guess, he only had a 18 game hit streak during this stretch. Edit: I wasn't suggesting the team wouldn't be better with Hiura, I think they would. There have simply been too many failures for any one member of the team to overcome during this stretch. That's all I was getting at.
  18. Pretty speedy binge Ah it's such a good show.
  19. I don't think a machine calling balls and strikes changes much though. Just getting calls correct. We'll see less deception (or none) by players to influence a call.
  20. Who saw this stretch of games against some of the worst teams in baseball going this badly? They had to think going without Hiura during this stretch wasn't going to hurt them. It can be argued it hasn't, having Hiura doesn't mean the pitching would be any better. Might they have won one or two games they've lost? Hard to say. I suspect they'd be right where they are now even with Keston.
  21. Perez's career numbers are better than Saladino's, plus he is a better OF. Numbers are almost equal, but Saladino wouldn't be any kind of upgrade over Perez. And Travis Shaw has better career numbers, and Aguilar has better career numbers, guess we better keep them too, right?
  22. Saladino is just as flexible and seems to be hitting well. He also is optionable which unlocks the roster spot Perez is locked into. Just saying. For all the griping about guys not getting it done with the bat how do you give Perez a pass?
  23. Aguilar, I've already come to the conclusion he's expendable. I was thinking he'd get maybe through the next week or so but if his fate were decided earlier it wouldn't shock me. Shaw has had 4 ABs the last 2 games, all strikeouts. Not a great look but prior to that his numbers were trending solidly in the right direction. I'd hate for these most recent 4 ABs to smother that progress too much. I wonder if Perez is safe? Great jack of all trades guy but as the saying goes, master of none. He's a bit of a luxury. There are guys in AAA that could fill in for the things Perez does, it might take more than one but they can shuttle them if needed. I love his personality and role with the team but I'd rather lose him than Shaw. Plus he could have a little trade value as a Swiss army knife piece, and whatever value that might be it wouldn't be skewed by slumping numbers like Aguilar or Shaw.
