  1. One week later...
  2. I agree, they should hand out the 17. Or just retire it. But diminishing Gantner's career as part of the exercise really shouldn't be the point. He clearly meant a lot to this franchise (and its fans) and I think that extended beyond his playing days. A personality in baseball can elevate the person beyond their playing career, case in point Mr. Bob Uecker. Add in Gantner being a small town Wisconsin guy and it just solidifies him. I don't think his number should be retired but I guess I somewhat understand the thought process, I just would rather they make it official or hand out the jersey. Pick one. Or maybe a sports franchise isn't a sports franchise without these unwritten quirky customs and it's all just part of the lore.
  3. Of interest this article says the broadcasts will be "moved from Bally Sports Wisconsin" which I assume means they won't be aired on Bally Sports at all now. That concerned me because I do not receive Milwaukee broadcasts where I live, I get the Green Bay channels. But the very end of the articles says "Television stations outside of Milwaukee will be announced shortly." so I hope that means they are working on Green Bay and other markets in the state. 4 of the 10 dates are scheduled to be aired on ESPN, not sure if they are subject to black out, in the past they have sometimes blacked out the ESPN broadcast so that people had to watch the Bally's broadcast. Those 4 dates are March 1st, 8th, 20th and April 3rd.
  4. Hey just want to say glad you're still living and I hope you make a full recovery. Get well soon. Lotta baseball to enjoy yet!
  5. I read that part of his deal when he parted ways with Wisconsin was he would be paid $1M for 2023 as long as he didn't take a DC or HC job which I'm sure it's a pretty big factor why he has the job title he has. It will be interesting to see what his next move is and what he has his sights on. He may not want to jump to the NFL, he might want to see if he gets offers to head coach at the college level.
  6. Nothing's been reported about the details of his contract yet so it's unknown if there is such a deal. Wouldn't shock me if there was, wouldn't shock me if there weren't. In Hoskins's mind I'm sure he expects he'll be in a good position to decline a QO and still get signed somewhere for a big contract. I think there's a good chance there's no QO agreement looming over the Brewers.
  7. What's wrong with Fangio? Just because Joe Barry was a failure doesn't mean the system is flawed. I don't think, or I would hope not at least, that guys that run defenses just install a system and forget about it and refuse to innovate or pay attention to what offenses around the league are doing to counter defenses. Fangio reportedly is going right to Philly from his last job, tells me he's still highly respected. It's an offense first league and for the most part it's the players that matter which of course doesn't absolve DCs from the responsibility of getting the most out of those players. I've pretty much said Leonhard isn't my choice but end of the day what do I know? Not much. I don't dislike him even if I think he's got a slightly overinflated popularity among the Packers fanbase. If Leonhard is ultimately hired I trust the process. My comments about him are more a criticism of the fanbase wearing blinders. I'm prepared to be wrong, I've been wrong about countless things in my life, I'll be wrong countless times more.
  8. One more name to add to @Joseph Zarr's post above.
  9. Packers interview Not Jim Leonhard, Packers fans riot. Classic.
  10. People really seem invested in making something they personally disagree with some big wide issue when really it's just their own personal issue. You don't need to say, "but the KIDS" or "MLB can't survive this way" just because you don't like the idea of having to subscribe to a bunch of different streaming services to see every game. You don't have to, that's the point. If you want to, you know how. Just say, "I don't like it and I refuse to pay for it." That's really all there is to it.
  11. Please feel free to point out what I said that I presented as fact that is not a fact. I'll wait.
  12. How do you know that? Have you run a poll and gotten hard information about it? Or might the fact that MLB is actually doing it mean they think it's profitable? I'll trust the people with their eyes on the bottom line.
  13. Casual fans are not going to be concerned with being able to watch every single game. That's why they're casual. If you want every game you're probably a die hard. Personally, I don't think it's a big deal if people miss a few games here and there. Pick the service that will get you the most games for the price you're willing to pay and deal with the ones you don't get some other way. It's not difficult or expensive to follow the goings on in a baseball game while not watching live. You can get updates on any number of websites or mobile apps that have box scores and post scoring plays, all for the price of free. Highlights are posted to Twitter while the game is still being played. You can watch 9 to 10 minute game recaps on YouTube free of charge once the game ends. Listen to the radio. If you don't get a good over the air radio signal MLB.com has a radio subscription service for a very reasonable price (MLB At Bat / $30 annually.) that will let you listen to any live MLB game with no blackouts and any broadcast of that game (Home or Road) for the whole year. FYI MLB At Bat is included with a MLB TV subscription for those out of market fans that get that free with your mobile phone service but can't watch the games because of blackouts. You can still access the live radio broadcasts.
  14. I'm curious why Philadelphia didn't offer a similar deal to him. Don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled to have him, but I just don't get it. Note, I'm not up to date with Philly's roster so I don't know if they decided they have a replacement already and felt he was expendable.
  15. Hey, certain people should be really happy about this. That would be a change.
  16. I wonder if Terry Stotts is on the short list.
  17. My argument of him being inflated due to his Badgers history is people likely wouldn't be AS interested to the point where he's the first name most people mention. He's close to home and thus more familiar which lends a certain percentage of bias. I just think he's a little over magnified in most people's minds due to his Wisconsin ties. He probably doesn't deserve to be the first name on the list. Anyway, I doubt MLF goes back to him. He had his chance and spurned it.
  18. Pass on Jim Leonhard. Feels like a "me first" guy. Didn't get the job he thought he deserved then took his ball and went home. Sorry not sorry, he turned down an offer to coach in the NFL once already, to me he's lost whatever leg up he once had with his poor/selfish decision making. He's going to have to prove it on the field once again before he gets a second NFL shot IMO. Probably won't be with the Packers if that time comes, most definitely not while MLF is there. I honestly wonder if he'll be a direct DC hire if he wants to coach in the NFL, he probably has to work himself back up the coaching ranks now. He's not even coaching right now. Seems like all he knows what to do is shoot his career in the foot. If he hadn't coached with the Badgers nobody here would give a damn about him. Hard pass. Give me someone with the career results to back it up.
  19. I'm conflicted on Detroit. I'm naturally inclined to root against them But they've been so bad for so long it's hard not to have a sympathetic sense of support for them. They haven't even had a pre-Super Bowl era championship since 1957. There would be an amusing factor to them winning a Super Bowl before the Vikings. I'm not so sure they'd beat the Ravens or Chiefs anyway even if they got that far.
  20. It's all coming down to this drive. We're not getting the ball back so they have to keep them out of the end zone or we lose.
  21. My everything for a reliable kicker. I'm not even surprised.
  22. Ok boys, keep a cool head and execute plays. Let's go!
  23. These 3rd and 10s. Get a stop please.
