  1. From a Jon Heyman article in the NY Post yesterday: I thought I saw one other article mention that CC's contract doesn't officially expire until Oct 30 or 31. I've been trying to find that but if true this isn't likely to be resolved before the end of the month. CC wants to see what his market value is and I'm sure Brewers negotiations will proceed from there once CC has actual offers. And as I said, CC isn't going to be pulling in near $10 million even from the Mets because they're not stupid. He's not likely going to get $8 million either, If the Mets offer $7M and the Brewers offer $6M does he still choose the Mets over a $1M difference? I'm not even certain the Brewers want to go up to $6M, with the report in the article that the highest paid managers in 2023 were making $4M-$4.5M would the Brewers even be the team to push into the $5M range? We'll find out eventually.
  2. It just doesn't make any sense to sink money into a fairytale. Gotta let him go.
  3. The reason managers make "so little" (as if being paid even $17.5M total over 5 seasons is tiny) is because there are always candidates ready to take the job for even less money and be nearly as successful as the guy they replace. There's a difference in the gap between a HOF manager vs. replacement and a HOF player vs. replacement. The replacement manager is never going to be as far off as the player. Even if the new guy doesn't work out it's easier to move on and try the next when the buy out isn't as high. Counsell deserves a raise but if some team wants to throw $10 million per year at him (which is beyond crazy when you consider that's POBO/GM type money) then congrats and I wish him well,. If I'm the Brewers I top out at $6 or $6.5 million, matching the pay for top managers, and say take it or leave it and I truly wonder if they'd even go that high.
  4. So you disagree with ridiculing people that disagree with you but resort to ridicule yourself. Way to take the high road. Wear that hypocrite cap proudly.
  5. Yep, I saw the score back when it was 6-0 and my first thought was Arizona is going to the WS because every team that eliminates the Brewers goes to the WS.
  6. Add "Or somewhere else or retire" and you will have covered all the actual possibilities. I don't understand why people think the Mets are the hot girl in this scenario. I think they look more like a hot mess. Stearns had a very personal reason for wanting to work in the Mets organization even before the most superest awesome rich guy in the galaxy became the owner, Counsell does not have that very specific desire in his backstory. And once again, for the billionth time, the Mets don't have the market cornered on the ability to spend for talent. $10 million per year. 5 years, $50 million. Stearns really lucked out that the guy that owns the organization he's always dreamed of working for was willing to throw that kind of money at him because I'd bet that he'd have gone there for millions less in a heartbeat. If the Mets are going to throw stupid money at Counsell to be their manager then that's the kind of move it would be. Stupid. If they give CC something like $8 million per year I'll laugh my butt off. And $8 million has got to be the ceiling, right? Even when overspending. Otherwise what's the difference between Stearns, a guy being paid $10 million to run the entire baseball operations, and CC, a guy that in this over ceiling scenario would make $8.5 or 9+ million to write out a lineup card everyday?
  7. Yeah, still not buying the "Counsell wants the money, therefore Mets" line of thinking. The Mets are not the only team in baseball that can pay him. The Mets are not the only team in baseball that can pay big money to free agent players. This is about relationships. So if it is the Mets, Stearns has to be a big factor. I'm still not sure that's enough for him to be so predisposed to the Mets that's it's a done deal. None of us know to what extent CC and Stearns are friends. Maybe they're really good friends, maybe they call each other late at night and watch Casablanca together over the phone until they fall asleep and we've simply not heard about it. If their friendship is strong in a way we don't know then yeah, the Mets could be the easy #1 on his list The other side of this a lot of us have been talking about is the Attanasio factor. It would be a big issue if CC is not loving the owner as much as maybe he used to or the limitations in payroll that come with the Milwaukee market. Nobody has really speculated much about Arnold being a factor though. Maybe CC doesn't vibe with him as much for whatever reason and would rather get a feel for another club. Maybe he just liked Stearns more but not necessarily to the point where he's looking for a reunion. The Mets are the easy and obvious choice for all the reasons everybody has been saying. If he leaves Milwaukee the Mets are the frontrunner until they're not. There are just so many other ways this can go and there could be factors nobody has even thought of behind his decision.
  8. I have had almost no hope since that Taylor lazer shot was snagged by Longoria but it's somehow been worse watching this lineup absolutely stink at having competitive at bats. Then Winker shows up and I just think, of course they put him on the playoff roster, how else can they just give an at bat away?
  9. I'm curious if he's thinking about losing Burnes or Woody or both and not loving the idea of working with a cobbled together starting pitching staff. Pitching is why they are where they are, lose one or both of those guys... Idk, I could understand why he might prefer to try a different franchise. None of this is me thinking he's gone. I want to say I think it's more likely he stays than leaves. I'm just searching for credible reasons he could be seriously considering a move. I don't think it's a decision that's as simple as a maxed out salary all by itself.
  10. It was too high. Sorry couldn't help myself.
  11. I feel sad for Jrue as well. That doesn't change the fact that I think this trade is amazing. It's possible to feel both. Jrue is just such a good dude it's a shame that he might feel let down that he had to be the "expendable" one. I wish him well. And in the end he's a pro, he'll come to terms with it. Really hoping he doesn't end up with Boston though, Miami or Philly would kinda suck too but if I could keep him from one team it's Boston.
  12. I'd encourage folks to get the mobile apps for McDonald's, Burger King, Wendy's etc. Lots of times, most of the time, there are deals/coupons that will get you food for cheaper, MdD's and BK also have a rewards system that earns you points towards free items. Dairy Queen is another sneaky decent mobile app, they often have offers for mini or small Blizzards for a buck or two, ice cream cones too. And discounts on their food if you like it. I find their food really isn't for me (except their pretzel sticks with queso, those are pretty decent), but the ice cream is good.
  13. Just visiting streamers websites I'm seeing these deals: Sling Orange + Blue is $27.50 for 1st month, then would revert to $55 per month (no access to local Fox, ABC, NBC, CBS affiliates etc.) Hulu w/ Live TV has a good deal going, Get Hulu + Live TV with Disney+ and ESPN+ for $49.99/mo for your first 3 months. Offer ends Oct 12. (honestly, the wording on their website is confusing, it might go to their regular price after Oct 12 regardless so I'd be careful there) Reg price is $77 per month. YouTube TV is offering $54.99/mo for your first 3 months. Then $73 per month. Fubo just has the week free trial and then regular price of $75 per month. DirecTV Stream is offering $65 per month for first 3 months, then it goes to $75 per month.
  14. As far as saving money, eventually games will be broadcast on Fox for the WS. If all you're worried about is watching the Brewers then cable channels will get you coverage up to the WS, possibly even including ALDS and ALCS games if they are simulcast on FS1, which it looks like they will be? But the WS is Fox only. https://www.foxsports.com/stories/mlb/2023-mlb-playoffs-world-series-schedule-how-to-watch-dates-tv-channels Sling would be ideal except you can't expect them to have a local Fox channel unless you live in Milwaukee. But if you lived there you could get a cheap digital antenna and get an over the air signal just as easily. If you are outside Milwaukee though (or outside Green Bay, Madison etc.) the digital antenna option becomes trickier. I'm in the Fond du Lac/Oshkosh area and I could never get a Fox station on the digital antenna, from Green Bay or Milwaukee. Sling would cover all the cable stations though and I thought I saw that they had a deal going for half price on an Orange and Blue package for your first month, so something around 27 bucks. Maybe save that Fubo 7 day free trial for use during the WS and hope it doesn't go to game 6 or 7 lol. Or find a friend or bar for games 6 & 7. That's all if you're trying to save money and just have a subscription for 1 month. If you're willing to just get the 2 months and cost isn't an issue then just go with something like YouTube TV or Hulu with Live TV or Fubo. They all cost around 70ish bucks per month plus taxes etc. I've used YouTube TV and it's a really good service IMO.
  15. Wowzers. I hate that my first thought was that I hope the Bucks don't get Aaron Rodgers-ed. But it's not like injuries haven't been happening to Giannis, Khris or Jrue anyway.
  16. If not this year next year for sure.
  17. Love watching that run differential grow.
  18. You don't throw money at a manager in the same way you throw money at star players. Bruce Bochy is rumored to be the highest paid manager in MLB at around $6M/year. Counsell is rumored to be currently making $3.5M/year. In what world does his salary negotiations get so crazy the Brewers can't come close? So Counsell is in line for a nice pay increase. Even if he goes to New York for a little extra that for some reason Attanasio doesn't offer him, NY has higher income taxes and a higher cost of living compared to Wisconsin. Plus the hassle of moving. We know his immediate family lives in WI but what about other family? If the people he prefers to spend his time around are here and he likes managing for his hometown Brewers it seems like a long shot that he'll leave. IMO if he chooses to go to New York, or elsewhere, it's because there's something going on between him and the FO or Attanasio himself that makes him want to cut bait.
  19. Not really seeking advice but one guy in my league had both Rodgers and Chubb on his team this year. I wonder how his team will look after week 3...
  20. Ahh the good ol' days when $3M per year was a nigh unthinkable amount of money to pay a ball player.
  21. A hot dog at Dairy Queen is $3.29. A&W is $3.59. Culver's sells a corn dog for $3.49. I think your $4 price is just fine and I'd wager you serve a better quality hot dog than those places. Unless you're just serving a basic Oscar Mayer hot dog, then it's a rip off LOL.
  22. Keston who? Mark Canha with an all time moment! Wooo!
