  1. Are you calling the guy who leads the Brewers in hits, homers, and rbis a complementary player? Yup. He's a good player for sure, but he's having a career year as an .850 OPS corner outfielder, it's not really that unique. Absolutely. You move on from Garcia unless you can sign him to a team friendly deal, which is unlikely, and look for the next value guy similar to what Garcia was 2 years ago to take his place. This is Stearns' MO.
  2. The Cardinals could go 10-3 against the Brewers in their remaining games and still be 3 games behind but they likely would have greatly impacted the Brewers lead on the Reds in the meantime. Not that I'm predicting that nightmare scenario but I think that is the concern people have, not that they're going to blow their 10 game lead on the Cardinals.
  3. Hard to know what to expect from the Cards. I was going to comment that it sure was nice of them to kind of figure out how to win games again just in time to play something like 13 games against the Brewers during this final stretch of the season but really they've just mostly taken advantage of playing bad teams for the most part. They did go 4-2 vs. the Giants though.
  4. there is no way he's serious There's a tiny part of me that wants the front office to give in to all of Rodgers' suggestions because once those moves fail spectacularly they can say, "This is what happens when a star QB blackmails an organization because he wants to play pretend GM."
  5. O-line hasn't exactly looked awesome.
  6. Lots of good signs for sure, but I think he's locked in on the 1st read on every play. There were at least two plays where he was going through his progressions, just from plays I've noticed anyway.
  7. So far it looks like Love might be able to play a little bit. The narrative of the national media sure seemed centered around him not having much of a clue. He's looked pretty poised out there.
  8. Some folks pronounce words like dinger with a hard "g" sound, like in the word "finger", to where I could see how it might be mistaken that way.
  9. At least you're being an absolute child about it, so there's that. Feel better?
  10. The wailing and gnashing of teeth (in general, everywhere online) over PJ Tucker is a little much. I'd maybe have a different opinion if he offered anything offensively but paying that much and going that heavily into the tax for a no offense, all defense guy just doesn't make sense to me. I'd think it would be easier to add an all defense, no offense guy for less money and maybe they tried that to a lesser extent with Semi Ojeleye and as others have mentioned maybe they find a player later to add similar to how they found Tucker in the first place. The one point I've seen where the Bucks could be missing out by not signing him is that they would have that salary slot to use in a trade for later if they needed to. Again, I'm not sure if that's worth the ultimate cost in luxury tax. Setting $20+ million basically on fire just isn't something that makes a ton of sense unless they're really, really getting a lot of value in going that direction.
  11. Absolutely he's earning major league pay while on the IL which is why the validity of his injury was brought up, fake an injury (I'm not claiming Axford did) to get on the IL and make a major league salary for a little longer. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/the-surprisingly-complex-world-of-minor-league-contracts/ This article basically spells out what happens for veterans that sign minor league deals. Getting called up to the big leagues does not guarantee their salaries, if they go back to the minors they go back to minor league pay, based on how their contracts were negotiated.
  12. Have to wonder how legit the elbow injury today.. probably legit, but it is rather convenient at the precise moment CC was going to take him out. Without the injury, he is likely released. As is, he is paid league minimum salary through the end of injury, I presume. Or is he guaranteed his salary already for the rest of the year regardless of what happens? The second he got called up he was guaranteed his salary for the rest of the year, so injury or no injury doesn't really matter. Those last two pitches he threw though....he's definitely injured. IDK, does it really work like that? Think of all the guys they option up and down, if they all get a major league minimum for the rest of the year just because they were called up for a day or two would the Brewers be handing out that money like it's Christmas as often as they do?
  13. It was a winnable game and losing those always hurts but it also feels like the team was due for a bad beat. It feels like it's been a while since we've had one, maybe during the Mets series where they lost the deGrom game late? It's baseball, days like this happen. Hopefully the relief pitching performs better next time.
  14. Westbrook averages a triple double but he shoots 43.9% overall and shoots like Giannis from 3 point range and from the free throw line with 5 turnovers per game. Not great efficiency.
  15. Wild, I was assuming this was another old bumped thread. Hope he does well, what a story that would be.
  16. Adam McCalvy @AdamMcCalvy Replying to @AdamMcCalvy Craig Counsell on Eduardo Escobar starting a Major League game at first base before he's done any work there: "He's a baseball player. We're not sending a baseball player into a basketball game here." Amen.
  17. Wasn't really sure where to drop this but it's interesting. Coach Riley @OLCoachRiley UPDATED MLB payrolls: 1. Dodgers - $290.6 mil 2. Yankees - $201.4 mil 3. Mets - $197.3 mil 19. Brewers - $96.4 mil
  18. Brewers runs in their wins since the AS break: 11, 7, 8, 7, 6, 9, 7, 12, 9 Love to see it. Especially remembering early in the season where 5 or 6 runs felt like the top end of their capabilities.
  19. He probably just didn't want to go to a team where he'd be viewed as the 4th starter.
  20. Dodgers getting Scherzer is whatever, it's that they're also getting Turner that disgusts me. it's like getting in a poker game with your neighborhood buddies and Jeff Bezos shows up to bluff everyone into folding with his tons of cash.
  21. Yes, Cobb had a guaranteed salary of $8 million plus which Houston is absorbing $3 million but the Packers were also going to restructure Cobb's deal to lower his cap hit, I assume that's how they've arrived at the around $3 million total. I doubt the full details have been reported yet but Silverstein is probably right.
  22. I feel like I've seen people saying that since the Adames trade the Brewers are scoring around 5 runs per game. The Dodgers have the most runs scored in the NL at 526 which puts them at 5.15 runs per game. So if the Brewers are indeed close to the 5 run per game mark then yes, they're probably ok if they don't make a significant offensive addition. Doesn't mean it wouldn't still be nice to add a nice bat.
  23. Gallo also doesn't have a lot of quality hitters around him in that lineup, there are a couple but the guys that are bad are real bad. The Brewers lineup is more balanced in that respect. The lineup wouldn't be as dependent on Gallo and would provide him more protection. Likely make his walks more valuable as well by bringing him around to score more often. Maybe NL ball with the pitcher batting negates that advantage a bit but only in the early innings.
  24. I want no part of Donaldson's contract on this team. We already have near constant complaining about Cain's and Yelich's contracts, I'm less than eager for Donaldson's name to join that litany. I don't think there's that much difference between Donaldson's performance and Schoop's and Schoop doesn't come with near the risk or cost that Donaldson would. It's funny, I was close to posting something about Schoop yesterday, my point was going to be we should be talking more about him than a guy like Rizzo but I didn't think there was really much point in stirring that pot when I agree with MrTPlush that I think it would be a hard sell for all parties (Brewers, Schoop and Brewers fans) on bringing Schoop back here.
  25. Mariners currently 1 game out of the wild card, not surprising their players aren't happy. As I had been thinking the price on Graveman doesn't seem real steep, not sure what feelings are on Toro as a prospect. Perhaps a missed opportunity but who knows what the Mariners would have asked for from the Brewers.
