  1. Essentially, for the Brewers to win a title under these conditions, they pretty much need to hang around until about the first week of September and then go supernova like they did post-All Star break this year, and they'd still need to get all the breaks to beat a Dodger team playing like this. Even then, I'm not sure replicating their July and August in October is even really possible. Yet, being light years away from their offensive peak, they've still lost the first two of this series by only a combined five runs, could have (should have?) stolen game one, and have held Ohtani down in a park that would reward an awful lot of pull fly balls from him. But for that, the deficit is still 2-0 and feels a lot bigger than that. Hey Chris Berman, I could really use a "And that's why they play the game" right about now.
  2. I decided in the DS that finding a way to beat the Cubs and avoid yet another postseason series collapse will be acceptable progress for me and I would not be upset about whatever came next. I intend to honor that promise to myself. That being said, getting the privilege of watching the Dodgers give me a half a billion dollar lesson in modern baseball economics with Snell and Yamamoto is fairly irritating, to say the least. Yeah, the approaches need to be better, especially the flipping lefties, who are coming up small in nearly all seven postseason games so far. But the story is these starters doing exactly what they are being paid princely sums to do, and we have no answers.
  3. Look, it's the playoffs. 2-1 games at the later stages just happen. I'm not thrilled about it, but I don't think we need to make a federal case about it, either. This was always well within the realm of likely possibility, and it isn't Murph's fault, and I don't think it means a really radical rethink is necessary. The lineup was constructed well, Snell was nails for 8 innings, but I suspect when the Brewers see him again (and I really hope they see him again) the approach will be better and the result at least slightly different. Let's go at it again tomorrow. Back to work.
  4. Hey, wait a minute, you didn't see Yasiel Puig and Chris Taylor out there, did you? No. Oh, good. For a moment there, I thought we were in real trouble. Let's go get 'em. Enjoy the ride everybody!
  5. I love this, of course, but with hamstrings this is still worrisome. Being "close to 100 percent" just means you are still equally close to "I cannot run, like, at all." Hamstrings are either 100% or a Ford Pinto. There is no in between.
  6. I’m so fired up for Miz and Patrick—absolutely phenomenal stuff from the rooks. And Brice, after so many ugly Ks to have that huge shot late to double the lead—it may not have normalized my blood pressure, but every little bit helps! And what more can you say about Vaughn? It’s the kind of player I thought only happens to the Cardinals, so it’s nice to be on this side of things for once. And finally, I’m pretty impressed with the optimists around here. Your confidence was definitely rewarded tonight, and I couldn’t be happier. What a massive win for the whole organization and the fan base. That’s a top 5 sports moment for me. Unbelievable!
  7. See you on the other side, y’all. If you’re at the game, put this phone down and start yelling!
  8. I’ll accept your terms. A game like this is a game of players: one or two will rise to the occasion, and most probably won’t. We’ll see soon enough.
  9. I will say this: unless the decision is truly and utterly inexplicable, like using Ortiz to PH in a critical situation with other bench options available, I’m just not going to play the armchair manager game after this one. I’ve seen a fair few coaches come through, and they’ve all been different. None of them won a title (yet), and few have even won a postseason series. At some point, though, after all the regular season success these teams have had over the years, it has to come down to players making plays. If they lose tonight (and I won’t rehash my feelings about that, this isn’t the time or place), I firmly believe Pat Murphy won’t be in the top 5 reasons why. Hitters have to hit, and pitchers have to keep the ball in the yard, simple as that.
  10. I keep seeing this suggestion pop up, and I just think, at some point, where is the line going to be drawn on the absolute shameless and incandescently transparent manipulation of injury lists in Major League Baseball? The Brewers are a team that will scrap and claw for every single advantage they possibly can in an environment designed to disadvantage small markets at every turn, but I have to think even our brass would balk at this. But who knows. In the end, it feels like rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic. Now, I know that I shouldn’t feel this way, and I’ve rehearsed all the rational reasons why. Past performance is not indicative of future results, players don’t react the way fans do, etc. But I can’t bring myself to believe any of it. When I think of AmFam/Miller in October, it’s just a sadness factory. It’s why I’ve been off the boards most of the series—I don’t think this place needs more and more of what my head says is a polluted mindset, but my eyes and heart tell me are just the facts of life. Three chances to win just one game. I’ve given up on a World Series, it’s a fools hope and always will be. But for years of pain, it isn’t too much to ask they don’t do this, at home, to Counsell’s Cubs of all teams. They owe us that. I wish I believed they would deliver.
  11. I mean, yeah, no one should have expected this to be easy. Nobody gets a cupcake in the division series, and the Cubs absolutely had to have this one, with their best pitchers throwing, and Chicago just barely did it. From that angle, I’m not too shaken up at the moment. However, this being baseball, and this being Brewers postseason baseball specifically, it is really hard to feel confident the rest of the way. I’ve told myself for years that I have to try to imagine the worst, most excruciating way this team can fail in October before every single series. Sadly, it is a strategy that has braced me for more than a fair share of heartaches. Win tomorrow, or I think we’re well under 50% likelihood to get it done in game 5.
  12. I saw online that a Cubs fan was arrested for allegedly assaulting a 10 year old. Dude looked like he was 275 lbs easy…going after a 10 year old. Crazy stuff.
  13. They don’t get much easier than that. I’m pretty thankful for a chill win today. Thanks Brew Crew!
  14. Not really a fan of the broadcast (esp. watching on HBO since I cut the cord). The sound is definitely weird, as others have noted. And I’m certainly not a fan of the way Darling calls the game. His comments remind me of Joe Buck in the 2018 NLCS, where he seemed simply baffled by the way the Brewers played the game. Comes off like a fogey at best, anti-Brewers partisan at worst (and I’m not someone who thinks Darling or Buck hates Wisconsin or whatever, but they don’t always do a very good job of combating the narrative, in my opinion).
  15. Yeah, I think this postseason is exactly why you keep Peralta. Where would this team be right now without him? Number one seed, all that potential, but also all that early SP depth up in smoke, but Freddy is just Mr. Dependable. Hard to put a value on that.
  16. I see you, Blake. We’re going to need you this month, my man.
  17. This is the kind of quote I need. I was pretty nervous, but I could run through a wall right now. I’m ready to watch some postseason wins.
  18. I think regardless of the opponent, but especially if it is the Cubs, winning Game 1 is of paramount importance. With how evenly matched the teams are, needing a 3-1 stretch in order to advance feels like a really tall order. If the Crew wins out of the gate, and we need only a split to advance, I'd take those odds. But Freddy needs to be at his best, the home crowd needs to be at its best, and the bats need to sequence their hits.
