    I mean, yeah, no one should have expected this to be easy. Nobody gets a cupcake in the division series, and the Cubs absolutely had to have this one, with their best pitchers throwing, and Chicago just barely did it. From that angle, I’m not too shaken up at the moment. However, this being baseball, and this being Brewers postseason baseball specifically, it is really hard to feel confident the rest of the way. I’ve told myself for years that I have to try to imagine the worst, most excruciating way this team can fail in October before every single series. Sadly, it is a strategy that has braced me for more than a fair share of heartaches. Win tomorrow, or I think we’re well under 50% likelihood to get it done in game 5.

    I saw online that a Cubs fan was arrested for allegedly assaulting a 10 year old. Dude looked like he was 275 lbs easy…going after a 10 year old. Crazy stuff.

    Not really a fan of the broadcast (esp. watching on HBO since I cut the cord). The sound is definitely weird, as others have noted. And I’m certainly not a fan of the way Darling calls the game. His comments remind me of Joe Buck in the 2018 NLCS, where he seemed simply baffled by the way the Brewers played the game. Comes off like a fogey at best, anti-Brewers partisan at worst (and I’m not someone who thinks Darling or Buck hates Wisconsin or whatever, but they don’t always do a very good job of combating the narrative, in my opinion).

    Yeah, I think this postseason is exactly why you keep Peralta. Where would this team be right now without him? Number one seed, all that potential, but also all that early SP depth up in smoke, but Freddy is just Mr. Dependable. Hard to put a value on that.

    I think regardless of the opponent, but especially if it is the Cubs, winning Game 1 is of paramount importance. With how evenly matched the teams are, needing a 3-1 stretch in order to advance feels like a really tall order. If the Crew wins out of the gate, and we need only a split to advance, I'd take those odds. But Freddy needs to be at his best, the home crowd needs to be at its best, and the bats need to sequence their hits.

    I have no deep analysis of any of the games today. I’m long since over feeling good or bad about matchups and wishing for certain opponents. The Brewers have proven quite convincingly that anything can happen in the playoffs, and in the divisional round, you’re always getting a great team, or a hot team, or both. So it all probably doesn’t matter. But I will say that if one goes into an elimination game rolling a starter with a 5.5 era, or a last name that sounds like you’re about to invade Poland, you’re probably going to have a bad time. As such, I’m not liking the juju for either San Diego or New York today. Meanwhile, I know very little about Cleveland or Detroit other than if they make it to the World Series they will have really earned it, so good luck to both of them. And that is my grade school level breakdown of today’s action.

    That is pretty brutal, especially De La Cruz providing the 3rd out by K. But they should still get a few cracks at the Dodgers bullpen to salvage this one, if their own bullpen can hang on, that is.

    I have never once gambled on sports. I have my weaknesses like anyone else, but that’s never really been one for me. However, down the stretch this year, I saw the Reds going off at 100:1 to win the pennant, and I thought, you know, they could get hot with some good starting pitching, sneak in, make a run. There’s always a team that does it, what’s the harm of dropping $10 or even a c-note on that? Could be an interesting rooting interest besides the Brewers. So I get it cued up, then say to myself, “wait one night—if you still think it’s a good idea tomorrow, pull the trigger.” Me the next day: And I’m loving that decision. I’m enough of a wreck watching sports already. I don’t need that evil on me.

    LaFleur’s clock management is in fact abysmal, and I don’t see much reason to hope for improvement on that. But as was also discussed earlier, he is such a conservative coach about most of his in-game decisions, too. This is where there should be improvement, because he has demonstrated that he can coach differently: I haven’t looked at this year’s numbers specifically, but the eye test suggests to me he’s still more in line with 2023-2024 than 2020-2022. I have two thoughts. One, he obviously had Rodgers in the early part of his tenure, and when combined with a mostly rock-solid O-line this probably gave LaFleur a lot of confidence to let 12 go get it pretty much whenever he thought it was there for the taking. Love and this current line isn’t on that level—and that’s fine to an extent, but I’d like to see them try and get two or three yards on 4th more often. My second thought, related to the first, is that LaFleur is now gun shy. He seems to be making decisions out of fear of what might happen instead of taking initiative to drive more desirable outcomes, which is what the numbers would also suggest is the right call. I leave it to the reader to decide for themself how much confidence they have in LaFleur ever finding his aggression again. Much may depend on it.

    I don’t have a problem with how they played that. Three timeouts but very little time left. Dallas is desperately trying to keep them out of the end zone. I thought it was a prudent approach. Love isn’t Aaron Rodgers, and that’s ok.
