  1. This from baseball reference on Ortiz and “Clutch” is maybe the best I can do for stats without expending a lot of effort. Considering he’s got 105 hits on the year and 51 are from while the Brewers are ahead, I’d say there isn’t much difference for him. He’s been bad regardless of the situation, and since he’s getting a lot of ABs with runners on, that’s bad for the team. I don’t know if the numbers need much more parsing than that.
  2. So help me, Murph, if Contreras gets a season-ender and we end up plugging another black hole into this lineup on top of inferior handling of the pitchers during the playoffs, I might demand your job.
  3. Since we’re offering our slightly less hot post-mortems, I will say this: I think I’m still coming out ahead as a football fan this week, and let me explain why. We usually look like death warmed over in our first week or two. This year we didn’t do that, and it netted us two key NFC wins, one against what is likely our main competition for the division. This week likely represents something of a low point on our year (hopefully excepting any injury devastation) and the fact it was a road loss to an AFC opponent that we will not be seeing in any possible Super Bowl matchups this season is about as good an outcome as you can hope for when it comes to clunkers. It is still early, we’ve got a (hopefully) better matchup next week with Dallas, and a bye coming up to help deal with some mildly alarming injury problems, and that all should help set things right. So I’m not a complete doomer about this. But I am something of a pessimist, so my order of concerns from highest to lowest are: 1) This offensive line will actually be worse than last year, despite the revamp 2) LaFleur is really just an overachieving mid-tier coach 3) Love is sort of fraudulent—despite the high level efficiency numbers and comparable counting stats to Rodgers and all that—because he may just be someone who shrinks in big moments I am still holding out the possibility of being convinced by the quality of this offense, but for me, the three trend lines above are the most concerning. I have very little criteria with which to evaluate a coach, since so much of the job is non-visible to fans, but I expect issues 1 and 3 above will be definitively answered one way or another this year. My overall confidence level is currently at a B-, but trending down.
  4. You put lime in Blue Moon? I mean, I’m sure it’s good, but I’ve never considered that before.
  5. And the PCA K will do it. Your Milwaukee Brewers are division champs again!
  6. Wow that is some garbage
  7. That’s it, I don’t think I will watch this one, thanks.
  8. I knew I wasn’t going to be able to watch the game live today because of little league games all afternoon. So I get a whole antenna array set up to get the game recorded on my in-house media server, including spending all afternoon yesterday running coax cable through my walls from the attic to the basement. And now, the way you all are describing this game, I’m fully anticipating the footage being so ugly that it will melt my hard drives like a Nazi trying to look inside the Ark of the Covenant. Kinda not looking forward to this watch.
  9. I think a comprehensive approach to halftime adjustments is warranted: scheme up some quick hitters, maybe try a different configuration on o-line, and some good old-fashioned butt chewing.
  10. I mean, I don’t claim to know much about ball, but Belichick said at the time we drafted him that he liked Morgan a lot. And now Belichick is out of the league, so…
  11. Yeah, this is not what you need to see after the Achilles heel last year against Philly being losing trenches on offense by a lot. At this point, you have to hope it’s injuries and the o-line will improve dramatically with health. Can’t waste the potential of a year like this with an offensive line that can’t do the job. Green Bay football is competent line play, period. This doesn’t work without it.
  12. Yeah, just because it’s Cleveland doesn’t mean they can’t do anything right. They’ve been very good on defense for a while.
