  1. Probably wouldn’t have made a difference, but…don’t slide into first! Who the heck was your little league coach, Sal?
  2. Huge for October if true. That >.500 W-L has been really robust for a good long time now.
  3. Poor Sal is really fighting himself up there tonight. Good thing everybody else is raking.
  4. I guess the brass really likes DeMarcus Covington. We’ll find out soon enough.
  5. LaFleur and Love have to work now. There’s no more excuses left. The running game is there, and between Golden, Kraft, and whoever else decides to maybe actually catch a football occasionally, there’s enough juice at the pass catching position for the offense to be elite enough to match the D. I’m still maybe 10% concerned about corner depth, but the pass rush should cover a lot of holes at that level, if necessary. It is time—put up or shut up.
  6. Wow. I was way wrong about all of it. I didn’t (and still don’t) understand Jerry Jones’ angle on this—Parsons seems like the kind of guy you hang on to like grim death. Maybe there was just no way to repair the working relationship, but man, what a player to give up. Obviously for us, this is Gute taking his Reggie White/Charles Woodson shot. The thing is, though, the stakes are even higher because of the draft capital involved, plus giving both a pass rusher and a QB the bag at the same time is going to make for some really difficult decisions pretty soon. We pretty much have to go to the Super Bowl in the next two years or this could get ugly. It probably would have, anyway, but this cements it. If nothing else, Gute is matching the urgency he expects of the locker room.
  7. Yeah, and after Jerry’s recent cancer fight, you have to think he’s even less inclined for a rebuild. Jerry has to be thinking he’s got fewer than ten seasons left. As such, he’ll do what he has to do to keep Parsons in the fold, since their short term prospects are way better with him than without him.
  8. Nah, I’m still not buying this. The Packers have a big fan base and are always contenders, which makes them ideal candidates to serve as grist for the rumor mill. We never make big blockbuster trades like this, but agents are more than happy to spread our name around surreptitiously to drive up negotiating pressure and interest in their clients. Same stuff, different player.
  9. Sadly, yes. Until he gets sacked thirty times in the last three games of their season and they flame out in the wildcard round.
  10. That throw was effective, but nobody is going to put that on a teaching tape. He did what he had to do and it worked, nothing more.
  11. Gutsy effort. Nobody getting any style points out there, but we can still get a win. I’d take it.
  12. Oooh, I may like that better than “the Turangutan,” which I have thus far failed to get to catch on with my kids.
  13. The board is frisky this evening. I kinda dig the liveliness here, even if I’d like to buy everybody a Coke and a smile.
  14. Considering it came from the whole epicenter of the era of the “Cardinal Way,” I think it is of a piece of the same mindset you’re describing.
  15. That’s when the show jumps the shark. This whole thing only works when Murph plays it straight. Even when he’s being crazy with pocket snacks and motivational posters, he has to hold down the serious face. Skipping blows it all up.
  16. It’s an oldie but a goodie. https://bluegrasspreps.com/forums/topic/91483-will-chris-carpenters-son-ever-recover/#google_vignette I remember watching that brawl in question. It was epic.
