  1. I wonder if the Brewers could handle the Trevor Bauer experience...
  2. I think for all the angst and spilled ink (or pixels I guess) over blaming Hook for the decline of this staff, a key part of the story is being overlooked. Half of the pitching equation is the catcher, calling the game, setting locations, framing pitches. What if Grandal is a major reason for so many of the Brewers pitchers declining at once? When I get some time today, I want to run a little comparison to see how this year’s Dodgers pitchers compare to last year, which could lend some weight to this theory. But if I’m right, moving Grandal won’t hurt nearly as much if it, theoretically, improved the pitching performances a bit. Plus, Grandal generally slides a little with the bat in the second half, and we may already be seeing his performance dip. Trading him and still going for this year may not be as crazy as I thought at first.
  3. Yeah, my thoughts exactly. It wouldn’t be unreasonable to expect him to hit at Arcia/Saladino levels right now, and getting him acclimated to the bigs now could pay dividends in future years. Seems to make sense for the short and long term. If he isn’t dealt, I’d be surprised if he isn’t up again in August.
  4. That wasn’t even a strike. Time to turn this one off.
  5. You know you’re having a bad day at the dish when your pitcher has a better approach than you. Looking at you, Cain, Aguilar, and Arcia.
  6. To the Rays.. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2019/07/rays-to-acquire-eric-sogard.html That dude was born to be a Ray. Seems to fit that organization.
  7. Heart of the order? Davies goes 1-2-3. Maddening!
  8. Maybe we should have let a few of the lefties have a crack at Quintana...
  9. To complete the trifecta, Brewers curb stomp Quintana today (metaphorically speaking, of course—keep it inside the lines).
  10. “Just go get”... those three little words are doing a lot of work here. I’m not privy to negotiations, of course, but I’ll throw this out there: what if the teams selling these “filler” arms don’t like much of what we’ve got going on in the minors? If this front office is getting creative, they must be seeing something that prompts it. They wouldn’t trade a guy(s) with wRC+ 120 for poops and giggles.
  11. You can’t crush Craig Kimbrel’s spirit if you don’t give him a save chance to squander. I love it when a plan comes together!
  12. Don't tease me like that...I would be absolutely through the moon ecstatic. Not sure I would be. I like a pitcher like Syndergaard in theory, but he’s only gone over 155 innings once in his career, has alarming injury trends, is having his worst season (which sure, makes him more affordable in theory, but might not in reality considering his likely market), strikeouts are trending down, his HR rate is trending up, and he’d be coming to a more hitter-friendly park. For all this, we would have to gut what is left of the farm. I don’t mention this to endlessly rehash the prospects vs stud aces debate, but only to say that perhaps if you are going to spend the prospect capital, maybe he isn’t the target. Maybe there isn’t a target this year. Or maybe they should save the farm hands and see if Cole’s market is flat this offseason and shock the world. Stranger things have happened. At any rate, I’m leaning Diaz, too, if he’s cheaper, and a back-end starter.
  13. Far be it from me to say what the Brewers *have* to do, since, after all, I’m just a small-town Brewers fan. But based on what the rotation ended up looking like this year, I can’t imagine how they don’t pick up Anderson’s option. Letting an effective mid to back-end starter walk and roll with unproven rookies and pretty much no safety net for the second consecutive year after attempt one ended in flaming disaster smacks of pig-headedness that is rather unbecoming of a serious front-office. That’s why I think Anderson will be back. Or the rotation gets a major overhaul between now and February 2020. I’m down for either option, tbh.
  14. Davies and Anderson have been solid this year, can’t really got much worse than Chacin, Gio has been hurt for months...Woodruff is the only thing that has really changed in the last week and were due to have a couple guys like Suter and Nelson coming back, plus a potential trade arm. We are fine.
  15. Well, if anything is wrong with Gio I think you've got to give Supak a shot now. You just have no choice. Beyond that, I'm not sure. You can probably add a back end guy for relatively cheap, but you might as well just roll the dice on Burnes when he returns at this point and hope for the best. I like what I hear about Supak, but has he even thrown a single pitch in AAA? Then he has to come up and be a hero in a playoff chase? How many pitchers can we psychologically damage in one season? I think you’re right, it’s probably their best option at this point, but if we’re hoping for much from him, we’re likely to be very disappointed.
